This life guard captured my interest one day in Ocean View because the sign clearly says" Keep Off" and she was twirling her whistle and looking at me with an attitude, while chidren crawled all over the stand. The Yellow Scarf

The juxtaposition of the varied plaids in this young fisherman's attire caught my eye at first on a California pier.  But when I looked more closely at the photo in my studio, I discovered the hole in the boxer shorts. 12 x 14" original watercolor.

The Worm Dance
There was something so interesting about the age difference in the subjuects, here. The young girl danced all around the OceanView pier with that worm.  It made me wonder what goes through children's heads in their magical world? watercolor 16x20

One of my earlier pieces - the original sold almost immediately.  This actually was a real person - of course the name and suit was changed.  But she was really wearing that innertube in the water.  I was amazed at how she got that thing on or off?  Prints are available. 8x10  This is one of my more popular pieces from my Beach People Series.

OV Snorklers
9x12 watercolor.  This pair of wet t-shirts were snorkling on the beach at Ocean View.  They never saw me take their photos because their masks were pretty water logged at the time.  There was something about those wet t-shirts and water bubbles trapped inside that intrigued me.  Well, that and the notion that anyone could really see anything in the water there!  This painting has caused more giggles in my art shows than anything else I have ever done.

This year, the Chesapeake Bay Artists Association has honored me with the the Outstanding Member Award, due to my work on the art show that involved creating the show poster and the work on the student tent.  Thank you, members.  It is nice to be appreciated in this way.  It really means a lot to me!

The Judy Boone Purchase Award was wonderful this year.  Thank you, Judy!  You have helped and supported The Chesapeake Bay Artist Association for many years.  You are our Champion!  It is nice to win, but better to sell.  CBAA appreciates all that you do for us.

I am finally getting around to painting some of my photos of gorgeous homes from the Charleston, SC area where I visited last winter.  The play of the afternoon sun on their porches really struck me.  I love how the sun seemed to illuminate their colors and cause interesting patterns of shade and light from the trees and other houses as a contrast to the classic lines of architecture there.  I plan to paint a large series of these homes this year.  The colors have a nice warm glow which enhances the beautiful styles of southern architecture seen in the Charleston area.  Look for some of these Southern Architecture paintings in my shows this year and let me know what you think about them. 

Just won first place and Best in Show at Buckroe Beach Art Show in Hampton, VA!

Jan 27-Feb 1 is the Norfolk Collegiate Show.  Come and see the local work done by many talented artists.  This is an indoor juried show with a selection of many talented local artists.  See show hours on my calendar on this web site.  The Lower School is located on Tidewater Drive in Norfolk.  I plan to be ta the opening reception the evening of Jan 27.  Please plan to come by!  I hope to see you there.

Sheila, its Kelly from Groovy's. I have really enjoyed looking at all your art on the site! You are amaizing! I love how your work depicts our area. Real and beautifully raw settings captured perfectly. I really like all the pieces, but my fav is the one with Bronson in the water...it looks exactly like him!
