John, Hunter and I welcomed 8-week old Sherman into our lives on Wednesday, September 24th. Sherman is one of five pups born on Friday, August 2, 2008 to:
JOY: Multi-BOS, AKC major ptd. V-2 Kriznik's Image of Faith, CDX, RAE, OA, NAJ, AD, BH, TT, TDI, CGC, HIC, ARC-V,
Seizure Alert Dog
AND
AXEL: Multi-BISS V-rated Am/Can CH Apollonia Anything Goes CS, TT, CGC, TDI
Sherman and I have big plans -- competition obedience, agility and therapy work.
Hunter is still adjusting to having the little landshark around but I'm sure he'll learn to like Sherman just as he's done in the past with the fosters that have come through.
Stay tuned for updated pictures, news and information.

A tired dog is a happy mom!
Sherman likes to give kisses to his daddy.
Sherman's making sure daddy doesn't go anywhere.
Well, I finally bit the bullet and gave the boyz each a beef soup bone to enjoy for dinner.
A while back a friend of ours gave me a large chunk of beef bone to give to the pooch. I kept it in the freezer wondering what the heck to do with it and how to even go about feeding it to Hunter (this was long before I even considered feeding raw).
Enter Sherman who was weened onto raw and has only ever tasted kibble BECAUSE I initially told the breeder (Andria) I would be feeding one kibble and one raw meal per day. I later changed my mind and decided to feed Sherman a strickly raw diet.
Anyway, I thawed the bones and this evening I carefully weighed out what each boy should get per meal. Boy were they droolin'! Hunter was instructed to take his outside and Sherman enjoyed his in the comforts of his puppy play pen (which is set up on the kitchen floor for easy clean up).
I tookd a few pictures of them enjoying their evening meal. Sherman is STILL working on his almost 45 minutes later and Hunter had his down to the size of a tennis ball -- at which point I traded him for a nice piece of the meat I saved and discarded the bone -- in less than a half hour.
This raw feeding thing takes some practice but I finally think I'm catching on!!!
Now that Sherman has received his first round of puppy shots, I've been trying to get him out and about to different places to meet new people (and dogs if at all possible).
We visited Windy City Harley Davidson on Wednesday where he met all of the employees. He sat nicely (for a treat) and even "spoke" to them when they weren't quick enough w/ the treat. We were there for about 30 minutes and just as we were headed outside, Sherman decided to leave his mark on the concrete floor. Mommy's fault for not allowing him to go potty the minute we got out of the car. I'm just thankful he did that upon our departure versus the minute we walked inside.
Thursday was a visit to Petsmart. I have to admit that I was a little nervous about this one as there's always alot of dogs, most of which are very rude and their owners haven't a clue. But, that wasn't the case. We met a couple who fell absolutely in love w/ little Shermie and even asked me if he was up for adoption!!! I kindly replied that Sherman was MY baby and he was not looking for a home (at least, not right now anyway). Sherman and I worked very briefly on walking on my left side, sitting when I stop, "watch," come and down. He's a quick study!
Stay tuned! More adventures to follow!
Sherman is currently weighing in @ 31lbs, just shy of the 12 week mark!
This boy wears that weight quite well and I was even told by Valerie (Shermie's daddy's owner) that he could stand to gain a few more pounds.
After meeting Axel over the weekend, I will not be suprised if Sherman doesn't take after him -- all 126lbs!!! :)
Six weeks ago today I flew to Boston to get my little (Sher)man!
Before I even considered adding another dog to the family, I'd heard from many puppy owners how hard those puppy times were and having another puppy wasn't something they thought they'd ever do again. If they were to ever add another dog, they would most definitely look into rescue. I have to admit, raising Sherman (to date) really hasn't been THAT bad. I'm actually enjoying the training and seeing him learn new things. We'll see if I still feel this way when Sherman is an intact, adolescent male!!! :)
We've been working on his obedience daily and Sherman knows sit, down, come, speak and beg. We're currently working on the sit/stay and down/stay as those are much more important (especially in class) than the party favorites of speak and beg. I introduced him to the clicker and I'm hoping to get a better understanding of how it works so that I can perfect certain behaviors using the clicker.
Two weeks ago, Sherman started a puppy kindergarten class @ BC Dog Training in Mundelein. There are five other dogs of random breeds and during puppy playtime, Sherman took a liking to a young Sheppard/Lab mix. Watching those two romp around warmed my heart. We missed the second class but I've been working him at home on our homework in hopes that we can catch right up and continue on w/ the rest of the class.
On Monday, we'll be starting a puppy agility class @ WAG Agility in Spring Grove. I have no idea what to expect of this class but I'm looking forward to it. Since dogs aren't fully developed until around 2 years of age, there will be no jumping but the dogs will learn some ground work that'll help when we do finally join an actual beginners agility class.
All in all, Sherman is a wonderful addition to our family and I'm still praying that Hunter soon realizes that. I believe that once Sherman is a little bigger and not such a fragile little puppy, Hunter will come around and they'll be chasing eachother and playing tug.
As some of you know, Sherman went to his first-ever photo shoot for Animal Planet yesterday.
I received a forwarded email early last week that Animal Planet was looking for two 16-20 week Rottweiler pups for a photo shoot/reinactment. I inquired to see if they would accept a 14-week old pup and was ultimately told, "thanks but no thanks (he was too young)."
Well, on Tuesday evening I received a frantic email from the trainer in charge of this shoot asking if I would PLEASE accept the "job" and that Sherman showing up would be saving the entire production.
So, Sherman and I traveled to Palos Park yesterday morning for his big debut. The taping was the final shots for a special that Animal Planet's Animal Witness is doing about Columbian Drug Dealers and how they used puppies for drug trafficing.
I don't know exactly when it will be aired but as soon as I find out, I'll make sure to let everyone know. I've heard January of February...
Enjoy the pictures I've posted as well. I'm such a bad (stage) mom as I completely forgot my camera!!! :( The pictures attached are ones that the owner of the house took.
Has it really been over two months since my last update? Wow! I guess we've been busy.
Baby Sherm is just shy of the six month mark and he's really not a baby anymore. He's growing like a weed and is currently weighing in right around 65lbs. All of his puppy teeth are gone and in place of them are some pearly white adult teeth.
We start a basic obedience class next Saturday in Crystal Lake and I'm really looking forward to getting him back in a formal class as we've been working by ourselves, at home and various other places for quite a while now. Sherman knows all of his basic obdedience commands and even a few fun tricks like "pout" and "high five." We just started to learn "take a bow."
I've uploaded a few new pictures of the worm. I cannot believe how quickly they grow up.
EDIT: No pictures to upload. For some reason Shutterfly is not allowing me to do that today. :(
Enjoy!
Hey there guys!
Good to see Sherman is doing well. He is such a great little puppy. He is going to have a great life there with Kim, John, and Hunter. Good luck with everything. I enjoyed spending the day with you and Sherman.
Talk to you soon.
Kimberly and John,
We cannot thank you enough for giving sweet baby Sherman the homes of our dreams! We are just indescribably thrilled that Sherman has joined your family and look forward to the wonderful life ahead for you all!
Hugs!
Andria, Ann and Mumma Joy!
I'm really sad I can't come out anytime soon and see Sherman as a puppy, that's when I like them best! But if he turns out anything like Hunter, then he will be a PERFECT dog!!! You are the best doggy mom I have ever met... seriously, I was shocked at how well you have done with Hunter.
XOXOXOX TO YOU ALL! MISS YOU GUYS! :(
Congratulation on the new addition to your family! He is just adorable! We cannot wait to meet the little guy!!! Have fun!
