Sign for guard shack

We projected this transparency in different sizes and flipped it to make them face a different direction

CornrGuard
Cardboard decorations are easy to store. This guy is four years old. Tape them to the butcher paper with duct tape. Duct tape will tear off paint.

Display cases
We converted the churches display cases to The Jerusalem town event boards

Event board Closeup
Pretend community announcements

Color Contest
We invented a Roman character called Larry the Crime Camel, a funny Roman knock off of McGruff the Crime Dog. We photocopied a picture and had a fake coloring contest and had the kids do these for us during Sunday School. We know Larry isn't in the Bible, but we figured Rome would try to influence the Providences with it's own propoganda, and we also thought it was funny.

Color Contest
More of the kid's coloring

Barabbas Poster
Wanted poster. Fun with Roman numerals, as "M" is 1000. More projected and painted cardboard.

Roman Recruitment Poster
"Join Today or Be Conquered Tomorrow".

Making Community Announcements
My daughter making up announcements to put on the Community mssg boards. My favorite is "Home made rock Candy, Made with real rocks, and some rock by-products".

Finished Board
"Car for sale, Put your family in one Accord call 'Luke" at VVV-L-L". "Anything For a Denarius" w/pull off tabs. "Passover room for rent: Inquire upstairs". "New Rock band 'The Fish Stix' appearing nightly" . . . you get the idea.

Camel Ad
Community Announcement for 3 leg camel for sale. You can use this yourself. . . actually you can use any of 'em if you want. Right click and "save as" somewhere easy to find on your computer, like the desktop.

Work ln Progress
You can see the difference outlining with black marker does by comparing this piece with the next one. Again, painted cardboard.

Final Logo
When using a marker, it is best to use long, continual lines, and try not to stop and start. It feels artsy to make those stop-start outlines, but they end up looking fuzzy and terrible. Smooth, thckly drawn black lines work best, the thickness will depend on the results you want.

Registration Desk
Every year we choose a new theme for our registration desk. This year we chose "Delilah's (not so) Kosher Kuts" salon. We area aware it is a lame idea, but hey, we came up with something. The kids seem to like it.

Barber chair
Hung from the ceiling with fishing line on ceiling hooks. Duct taped to the floor, built to fit around the churche's archetecture. Mirror is aluminum foil, phoney magazine cover "Camel beat" is picture of youth pastor when he was a kid.

Manicure salon
The right backdrop to our registry desk. Use bright colors when you paint stuff. Kids love it. There's a litle mouse in a bedoin hat on the middle far right, too. Include stuff for the adults, like the "50% off ten commandments Bubble bath, that cleans you inside and out", and Esaus' hair tonic from the previous pic. As pretty much all our stuff, painted cardboard on fishing wire to ceiling hooks for big stuff like this that has to free stand.

salon heads
found these in a thrift store

Sign post tree
My youngest son. Fourtunately some places have nails to hang things on. We took down an enormous wreath and replaced it with this tree. In the three weeks before VBS we hung a "help wanted" poster here 9in the middle). This is between the two double doors leading into the sanctuary. If you have an entrance like this, watch to be sure the ushers don't open the doors so wide that they completely covers it up.

Outlining
Again we project a picture, trace it paint it, then my husband outlines it. When oulining use straight continuous lines. Try not to stop and start. It makes the lines look fuzzy

Finished tree
Something this size take 6 th 8 hours from start to finish

HopScotch
We wanted to use Roman num. again

Kids playing
If you have an artist have him draw pictures on a transparency. If not, use a copy machine. All these pictures were copied off of coloring pages

Example of our process
Another of my sons paintng. Almost any skilled person can do this. Se the finished product on the previous page

Spray Paint Door on butcher paper
A good filler but be careful it is easy to have accidents

First Jesus picture
This year we decided to make so cut outs for the kids to put their heads through with their leaders for pictures. They are 3/8x4x8 plywood. over the wood with a solid light color to keep wood grain from showing through. We used light blue because we have a lot of it.

Jesus picture befors outline
This picture really makes my daughter laugh

Samson/delilah CutOut before outline 2
You can really see a difference between this and the next picture

Final Samson/Delilah CutOuts
