About the Artwork

Falling Through the Cracks started with photographs of the intricately designed sidewalks of Prague. A city resident ignores these mosaic footpaths the way a DC local passes hurriedly by the White House. But as a tourist, I was captivated by the patterns and made art from art.

Method: I reduce the digital images of the sidewalk photos to about an inch wide and fill a whole sheet of paper (Word doc) with that one photo. With scissors, I cut shapes by hand from the patterned paper, adding color and depth by gluing on pastel paper and vice versa. Finished pieces are 8"x10".

• Artomatic 2012 is at 1851 S. Bell Street in Crystal City from May 18-June 23. I'm on the 9th floor near the Peeps dioramas.
• National Collage Society's 27th Annual Juried Exhibit is online through Fall 2012. The first piece in the Bubble section was selected. You can see it here, second row, third from left.
