Where does the time go?
We've been tracking again - a couple of times. Each time I take them out they are more eager to go. Still, it's interesting to me that they have little to no interest in the food. They're not that keen on stopping at the article for the food, and yet they still seem to love the activity! I've only been able to do short little tracks with them, but they have both been exposed to tracking on non-vegetated surfaces, on short lawns and in tall field grasses, and they have always been willing. (Unfortunately, no more tracking pictures.)
Jethro still struggles with a bit of car sickness. I took them with me to plotting day of a TDX test in Angwin, CA, 45 minutes from my house "the back way" over pretty windy roads. Poor Jethro. He didn't get sick on the way there since I withheld his breakfast, but he did get sick on the way back home after stopping to do a little track for them at another site.
I finally got the Happy Traveler product discussed on the Silken list, and gave it to him when we went to Fairfield last weekend. I expected him to be okay on the way there since I saved breakfast until after we arrived, but wasn't sure about the drive back after giving him treats for tracking and breakfast on top of that. But the Happy Traveler seemed to do the trick! I used it once more going to a local tracking site, after he had eaten his breakfast, and he survived that trip without getting sick as well. I think that having them in the van while I run a few quick errands helps as well - just when he's starting to feel sick, we stop and then he's just in the crate. He is lying down most of the time when we travel now, and hops up into his crate beside Ethan pretty willingly each time we go.
They've each been into the feed store with me, and had a quick trip to the CountyWide Dog Training Club training building on club meeting night. We've been back to Spring Lake Park a couple of times, and walked along the flood control channel as well. But I think their favorite place is my friend Lauri's fields....we've been back a couple of times for some full-out running exercise.
It's always easier to catch photos of the dogs when they are napping.<grin>
