Dear Sixth Grade Parents,
The second semester of sixth grade officially started on January 25th! You should be receiving 2nd quarter grades in the mail shortly. As we had informed you at the beginning of 2nd quarter, our pace and expectations of your child have stepped up. Most students have kept up to speed, but several still struggle with organization and sixth grade expectations.
To help them get off to a good start this semester, we have cleaned out and organized their lockers and binders. Attached is a list of sixth grade supplies that they have used up or are missing. Students are responsible for replacing these supplies as needed, and will be docked for coming to class unprepared if they are missing when needed. Unfortunately, most of my “extra” class supplies (rulers, scissors, pencils, calculators) have also disappeared or been destroyed, so I am no longer loaning any out. As I mentioned to you before, it is my observation that the students missing these supplies are often the ones that leave their supplies around the room and the halls (due to lack of organization or caring), or sometimes use these supplies (rulers, calculators, scissors) inappropriately, resulting in damage. I guess what I’m hinting at is- don’t be afraid to have your child work off their new supplies in some way or use “old” ones that are laying around the house.
The other topic is homework. Now that we are up to full speed, most students should be coming home with occasional homework assignments, especially in math. Students are given an in class math assignment daily after meeting with me in group. Usually, whatever they don’t finish in class is homework. If you don’t see anything coming home, please feel free to check on PowerSchool link on school website. In addition to grades and assignments, you can also access school lunch balances and attendance. Your PowerSchool access code should’ve been mailed to you recently. Call school office if you did not receive. If assignment was expected and not turned in, it would show up as a zero. I update assignments weekly.
As always, thank you for your teamwork and support!
Sincerely,
