The tickets have arrived! Students who read for fun for at least 6 hours and recorded their reading on their Six Flags Reading Log earned a FREE ticket to Six Flags Over Georgia!
Look for the tickets to go home Monday.
Students in 1st - 6th grades can earn a free book from Barnes and Noble by reading 8 books of their choice and recording information about the books read in a Barnes and Noble Reading Journal.
Bring your completed journal to a Barnes and Noble book store between May 21st and September 3rd to pick out a free book from the list on the back of the journal.

In the journal you will need to list the title and author and then briefly explain who you would recommend the book to and why. Keep reading all summer long AND receive a free book from Barnes and Noble!
The book fair is over, but our students have purchased many fun books to read for half the price!
The Georgia Picture Storybook that received the most student votes for our school was When a Dragon Moves In by Jodi Moore. This book also received the most votes throughout the state of Georgia. The second place winner for South Jackson was Clemente by Willie Perdomo.
The chapter book that received the most votes by 4th - 8th graders in the state of Georgia is Hero by Mike Lupica.

Author and musician Eric Litwin came to South Jackson on December 6th! He is best known as the author of the Pete the Cat books. Mr. Eric performed twice for us and then autographed books.

We hope he will make videos of the new stories he told to us during his visit. Our students are still talking about the good time they had during his performances!
All teachers were given Pizza Hut Book It reading promotion materials. This program allows students to earn a free personal pan pizza once a month October through March for meeting the reading goal set by their teacher. Parents can learn more about this reading program and the importance reading plays in the life of children by visiting the Book It website http://www.bookitprogram.com/Parents/index.asp .
All South Jackson students have the opportunity to participate in the Six Flags Read-to-Succeed reading promotion program. Students who read for 6 hours above and beyond reading required for school earned a free ticket to Six Flags Over Georgia! Completed reading logs were due February 27. Students who read 3 books or met their reading goal during the month of September earned a free ticket to a Gwinnett Gladiator Hockey Game. Way to go SJES readers!
