Skagit Women Build - skagitwomenbuild

9/29/09 We're working hard to finish the home by November 30th. There is some question, so many people are researching to see if Belen, our home owner qualifies for the 1st time homeowner tax credit being offered by the government as part of the stimulus package. Until we know for sure, we will be working as if it is true.

We are working on haning drywall throughout the house. So far we've hung all 4 bedrooms, the living/dining rooms have the 1/2 lids(ceilings) and 1/2 of the walls are done. The drywall will be finished this week so that the inspector can come on Friday, before the mud and taping start.

We also will be working on getting the front porch up and roofed. After that we can finish the front siding, caulk and paint the two porch windows and walls, following with the deck railing and steps.

At this point much of the final planning and scheduling is being done. Valley Cabinets of Mount Vernon worked with us to get Belen great cabinets within our budget. After the walls are painted in the kitchen and bathrooms, we can tile the floors and set the cabinets and countertops. There will be lots of painting and trim work for all who can join.

Dress appropriately for outdoor work. A pair of well-fitted work gloves is helpful, along with work boots. If you don't have work boots, hiking boots work pretty well for keeping your footing in muddy areas. We're to the phase of the construction that requires hardhats be worn. We have them available.
