The Kanopolis Sunflower Civic Club was awarded a $1349.80 grant to assist wtih the cost of the sidewalk at the Kanopolis Fort Harker Commanding Officer's Quarters.  With the help of volunteers, the sidewalk is complete.

The Smoky Hills Charitable Foundation granted $2,000 to the Sunflower Civic Club to help purchase 10 new 7' lighted Christmas trees from their Smoky Hills Community Fund.

A $1,000 grant was awarded to put towards a "basketball park," to erect two additional basketball backboards and hoops with bench seating, and lighting, which could be used for pick-up basketball games.

A grant of $1500 was awarded in the year of 2007 to repair the interior North wall of the Second Baptist Church.

The interior North wall was repaired, which required hiring someone to stablize, tape and drywall. All repair items pur chased (drywall tape, drywall plaster) plus the labor were paide for with the money given by the Smoky Hills Charitable

The interior of the church was painted; first with a primer coat and then with two coats of paint.

The much needed rejuvenation of the interior of the church has impressed both Historical Society members and visitors alike. A young couple chose to have a small wedding in the church after the painting was finished.

The Ellsworth Elementary PTO was awarded a $1349.80 grant from the Smoky Hills Community Fund to provide support for the installation of a new basketball court at the playground for the Ellsworth Elementary School.

The work on the new basketball courts began on August 10th, 2010, and was completed around September 3rd, 2010.  It has been a wonderful addtion to the new playground at the Elementary School and downtown.

Any day of the week you can drive by the playground and it is not only full of children playing, but it has also become a gathering spot for parents to take their children to play after school hours.
