The day after Thanksgiving in 2009 we set off to Wisconsin to pick up SnuggleBug, our new teardrop RV. Once we got her, we headed due south as quickly as we could to get to warmer weather. But when there was still snow on the ground at the Mexican border, we headed west to the coast and then made our way north to our home in Olympia, WA.
In all we drove through 17 states in 17 days - 6,240 miles:
(Washington, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, California, and Oregon)
Along the way we stopped at two national parks: Theodore Roosevelt in North Dakota and the Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico.
Even though it was extremely cold, the roads were clear the ENTIRE time. Our new trailer pulled like a dream, and amazingly, our Honda's all-wheel drive system never kicked in until we were just one mile from home, where we hit snow on the road for the FIRST time!
We loved every minute of it, but were very glad that Snugglebug was equipped with a propane furnace.
We've divided the trip into Weeks One and Two (click on the tabs near the top of the page). We hope you enjoy the photos and stories!
