13, Author Gillum Ferguson to Speak at School of the Soldier

Author Gillum Ferguson will give an evening presentation on his new book, 'Illinois in the War of 1812'. The role of the militia in the conflict, as well as Ben Stephenson’s contribution, will be discussed. Books will be available for purchase. Admission to the evening is free.
14, School of the Soldier, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. War of 1812 reenactors garrison the site as they prepare for the upcoming bicentennial. Members of the 1st and 25th Regiments of U.S. Infantry practice drill, manual of arms, and deportment. Open-hearth cooking demonstrations are planned in the kitchen, and guided tours of the house will be available.
1. Sign-in to the site using your password.
2. Left click on the date you wish to volunteer.
3. The “Add Event” box appears on your screen.
4. Next to “Event Type” is an arrow pointing down. Click on the arrow to select “Volunteer” (seventh on the list).
5. Next to “Event Title”, type you name.
6. On the next line is “Starts”. Be sure the date is correct. Also, select the time you plan to begin and end your volunteer shift. To select the start time, left click on the first box containing the hour then select the time from the list. To select ending time, left click on the second box containing the hour then select the time from the list.
7. Now, click on the empty box next to “Location”. In this box type where you plan to work (Interpreter or gift shop).
8. Almost done! At the bottom of the screen are two checked boxes (one for sending reminders and one to add photos) that need to be unchecked. Simply click on each one to deactivate them.
9. Click “Add” at the bottom of the screen. This will close the “Add Event” box and your name will appear on the calendar.
