The Fifth Sunday after Easter
Rogation Sunday
Mother's Day
Good People,
Fr. Frank doing much better. His heart has returned to normal. He and Beverly will be married this Sunday, May 13, 3:00 p.m. at St. Timothy's Anglican Church, Swannanoa. I have the honor of performing the wedding. Please keep them both in your prayers.
Please Pray for Martha Wilson.
Martha Wilson, the mother of Teague Delmas, has broken her other ankle. Please keep her in your prayers for perfect healing.
Rogation Sunday is the traditional day when prayers were offered for the Spring planting of the crops. In every Parish, the clergy and laity would parade ("rogate") to the four corners of the Parish boundaries and bless the fields. They would sing songs, say Litanies, and stop from time to time for refreshments which included good English ale. By the end of the day, they were contented and ready for bed.
But here in America, it is Mother's Day. So we will mark the day with some special prayers. Plus, we will have a red rose for every lady, young and old, in the Church this Sunday. We will also have some special music performed by Dan Weiser and a guest clarinetist, Fred Lemmons, who played in the U.S. Marine Corps Band before five Presidents. The men of the Parish will host the refreshment time that follows the 11:00 a.m. service.

Alpha Course Continues on Wednesday, May 16
Evening Prayer at 6:00 p.m. then our Wednesday evening potluck, followed by the Alpha Course. The topic this Wednesday is "Does God Heal Today?" We know that God heals here at St. Matthew's for we have seen and experienced many miracles both great and small. During our discussion time, we will be talking about "The Prayer of Faith" as found in the Epistle of James.
Ascension Day, Thursday, May 17
We will celebrate Ascension Day with our usual women's & men's study groups at 10:00 a.m. followed by Holy Communion at 11:00 a.m. that will be concluded with a healing service.
Our First Summer Agape is Saturday, May 19, 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at our home.
Leslie & I hope that many of you will come to our home next Saturday. We will provide the main course of "pulled pork." Those of you who come, we would ask that you bring side dishes, salads and desserts. Many of the members of St. Patrick's Mission, Brevard, will be joining us that evening. There will be a sign-up sheet at Church this Sunday and a map on how to get to our place; the address is 1447 Kentwood Lane, Pisgah Forest, NC 28768. The native Mountain Laurel is starting to bloom in the woods around our house; it is beautiful. God willing, we will have a monthly Agape from May through October. This is a time for people to get to know one another in an informal setting.
See you this Sunday at St. Matthew's for Bible Study and Holy Communion,
Fr. John
