Field Day Committee Volunteers Needed

Dear Stony Brook Parents,

I am looking to put together a Field Day Committee for our upcoming event on June 8, 2011.  This is a school wide event for grades 1 thru 5.  The change in our elementary schedule and the absence of my partner, Mr. Orlando, make this coming Field Day a huge undertaking for myself.  The committee's primary responsibilities will include setting up after school the night before, early set up on Field Day, getting volunteers to help run stations, assigning those volunteers to teachers and events, and posting information on the school website.  If you can commit your time and energy to this committee, please email me at gmerlino@hvrsd.org.  I would need your commitment by Nov. 28th, so I can move forward with planning this event.

Thank you,

Mrs. Merlino

Walk-a-thon Fundraiser Update/ Family Fun Walk Schedule

Dear Parents:
The SB PTO wants to thank everyone who is participating in the First Walk-a-thon Fundraiser and to encourage anyone who has not yet started to log those minutes!  We especially want to say thanks for not only walking,  biking and running to school this week, but also for putting in the time at home as well.  The kids have really been excited about tracking their minutes and it's great to see so many kids getting exercise by walking and biking to school.

Remember, the Fundraiser runs from October 1 through October 7th.  Please help your child keep track of his/her minutes and gather some pledges.  The child who walks the most number of minutes and the child who is the top fundraiser will each receive a gift certificate for a new bike.  The classroom with the most donations will receive a Bounce-U party.  Great incentives for the kids to exercise and help the school at the same time!

Please remember this Saturday's Family Fun Walk, where we will celebrate the week's accomplishments!  Mark your calendar to join us for any part of the day:

8:15am-8:30am  Bike Registration Begins

Courtyard Adopt a Planter Program/ Fall Fest Decoration Contest

We have six planters in our courtyard and need some help to maintain them throughout the fall months. We are requesting that each planter be adopted by a family (or multiple families or even a class!). The next “Adoption” will be Fall Fest.  The family (or class) would be required to weed and water the planter for the fall.

The Courtyard Committee will supply the mums and you can decorate the planter to incorporate the fall theme (scarecrows, pumpkins, harvest cornstalks etc…).  The children will be able to vote on for multiple ‘titles’ and special prizes will be awarded in November.
