We are off to a great start this fall.  I love the invigorating fall afternoons at Westlake.  I'm so excited for a new season.  And it is great to also be teaching in a new neighborhood.  I hope to see you soon...as we all fall into fitness!

I hope that everybody had a good time this summer with our water specialty class and Olympic class, as well as extra strides all over Oak Park.  I'm personally looking forward to teaching in Wildwood on Mondays and Wednesdays, and then in Oak Park on Fridays come fall.  And the trial run of Tuesday afternoons in Westlake.  It will be so strange not having Kaya there, although a lot lighter to just push Makena (at least for the fall.)  Thanks for letting me try to capture some moments during classes, although they are often off the cuff it is so much fun to do.  And on that note...give me a call if you want to set up your holiday photos!

I started this day checking my list for the Water Specialty Class.  I had tried to prepare a fun class, and needed to make sure I had all my water props.  I had a list, and I used it: water guns, check; buckets, check; water balloon bucket, check; sponges, check.  I ended the day by watching "The Bucket List" on DVD with my husband, Brian.  By the end I was shedding some tears, which I allowed just long enough for the movie to have its desired impact, but then dismissed the emotions to continue on with the other tasks I needed to complete before bedtime.  Uploading photos from the Water Specialty Class was one of them.

My favorite photos from the class were those capturing the fun the moms had playing simple games, the moments of surprise when being "shot at" with water guns or the fun of trying to keep a sponge in flight while performing side shuffles.  And I thought about how I wanted to make it a fun class, still a workout of sorts, but fun.  There seemed to be moments of that goal being accomplished.  And I'm thinking to myself how much I hope that in the future, Stroller Strides, the program not just the classes (playgroups, outings, moms night outs, all of it), , is something these moms and little ones will look back on with such fondness and appreciation.  That this is something that met important needs during motherhood, for emotional support, friendships, health, strength, and endurance.  Needs moms can dismiss or not proactively pursue, but that a "little" exercise class was a means of provision for those often-overlooked needs.  And that their lives and their children's lives are being enriched by this program. 

One day, when these moms are doing more with a bucket than front raises and upright rows, maybe making their own "bucket list" of sorts, they'll be thankful (and their children too) for a class that met in a park, where they exercised with their baby and met other moms.  They will remember the benefits of exercising, the friends made both for them and their child, but more than that, that they will have a fond appreciation for this phase of motherhood and life.
