Grand Antelope Canyons Vegas

Antelope Canyon
Right Outside of Page/Lake Powell, Arizona on the Navajo Reservation. A unique Canyon for light and color.

Mom Antelop Desktop.JPG
This one looked like a good desktop picture for your computer, its a real picture mom took. Mom Antelop Desktop.JPG 2006

Antelope Blue Coat.JPG
No one we know, but it shows the depth and height of the Canyon. Antelope Canyon is seen on many movies.

Mom and Sue Exit 2.JPG
It was also used in the Zantac Esophogial Commercial. This is the exit of it. Mom and Sue Exit 2.JPG 2006-05-09

Trail Edge.JPG
This is me actually walking on the edge of a trail into the canyon. I went an hour in, 2 hours out.

Mom on Trail 2.JPG
It took me all night to convince mom to do it too. She did a half hour in, hour out. We'll conquir that fear of heights.

Blue Beer at the Grand Canyon.JPG
Mom drinking? She says she can because she's on vacation. I can't argue with that.

Grand Sunset 3.JPG
We made it to Hopi Point for the Sunset the first night. That was the light show of the week.

Guess the title says it all. Me trying to be artsy I guess.

Too Lazy to photoshop the color, get over it, its CHOCOLATE!!! With chocolate fountains and all found at the Bellagio.

Drinking at Quarks.JPG
The last day we spent being attacked by Klingons and assimilated by the Borg just to end the day with a drink at Quarks

Mom in Skytower.JPG
The fear of heights is no more with mom in the Stratosphere tower. You can see the Strip behing/beneith her.

Sue at Mirage.JPG
We walked from the Luxor to the Stratosphere. This is one stop. Going in every casino we probably walked 10 miles total

Zion Bryce Capital

Checkerboard Mesa at Zion
First thing I did at Zion was went for a car ride and found this.

Bike at Zion
Seeing as there is no longer anyone to take pictures of and no one to take pictures of me, I've found new subjects.

Tee Pee Sunrise
Yes, that's MY tee pee. We all know I'm weird, get over it. This was the first morning in the tee pee. It was perfect.

Hanging Garden at Weeping Rock
Water seeps through the sandstone like a sponge and comes out of the walls all over the canyon making it look tropical.

Weeping Rock
This was the most notable of the "gardens".

Bryce Ampitheater
Onto Bryce National Park. They are known for their "hoodoos". The tall rock formations.

Heading Down Navajo Trail
I decided to walk down and back up, not nearly as difficult as the Grand Canyon, but has just as much scenery.

Switchbacks Down Trail
Not sure if you can see the people at the bottom, but it was steep switchbacks all the way to a canyon.

Purple Trail
Still headed down, this picture was just pretty.

The Trail Wide
Once in the canyon it was pretty cool.

Trees on Trail
Bryce is also known for these abnormally tall pine trees growing from the bottom of the canyon to the top.

2 Bridges
A little side trail took me to these two rock bridges.

Capital Reef Wide
On to Capital Reef National Park. This is the gist of it, 100 miles of a rift or shift in the earth with great colors.

Capital Reef
Heres more of the colors and layers, there's 100 miles of this, with caverns and canyons throughout it.

The Bug the size of one
I decided enough sissy stuff, I'm going to hike a "strenuous" trail up 1 3/4 miles and back down 1 3/4 miles again.

Three Quarters Up
The bug may be the size of a pin head, I can't tell on my screen. I was headed to Cassidy Arch My best acomplishment yet

Cassidy Arch from Afar
Butch Cassidy's hideout was said to be around Captial Reef, so he has an arch named for him. Almost there.

Me on Arch
After being alone all day, surprisingly I met a lady at the top willing to take a picture of me on the arch.

Me on Arch Close Up
That's as close as we could get. I still had a 2 hour trip back DOWN the rock ledges and guess what, more rocks to come.
Arches Canyons

Balanced Rock
Going into Arches NP this is the first thing I see, obviously not an arch, but cool anyways.

Both Windows
North and South Windows Arches. Took a Ranger Guided geology tour here.

Double Arch
One of the coolest and biggest arches.

Double Arch from Below.JPG
Double Arch from Below.JPG 2006-05-18

Forming Arch
What an arch may look like while forming, they are constantly changing, forming, being destroyed.

Landscape Arch
The most fragile and biggest of arches, 300 feet wide and 150 feet tall. They have video of some of it falling in 1991

Me at Partition Arch
This was the longest hike of the day, 105 degrees, got burned too, oops.

Sand Dune Arch
I had to hike red sand dunes to get here.

Sunset 1 Good
Went into town for dinner and back out to the park for the sunset, but not quite in time to get an arch view.

Dome Crater
I forgot the official name of this, but no one can agree how it formed. Its two miles in diameter, a perfect circle.

Dome Crater Feet
There's two theories. A meteorite hit millions of years ago, or a great salt bowl left from oceans somehow.

Mesa Arch Long Plants
This was an arch in Canyonlands, are we confused yet, I am. A short hike but a really high arch.

What else was I supposed to do in Salt Lake City on a Sunday? Go visit the mormons I guess. Temple Square was kinda cool

Salt Lake
I had to say I touched it, wasn't too impressed, but again what else am I supposed to do in Salt Lake on a Sunday in May
Yosemite San Fran

El Capitan
Vosemite National Park was after staying in Tahoe for a night. This is one of the landmarks there.

Bridalvale Falls Wide
There were so many waterfalls there it was hard to keep them straight. This one I loved the sunset on the leaves.

Mirror Lake 2
It really is a good name for the lake. I started my first day with a little hike to here.

Yos Falls Long
Yosemite Falls Upper Middle and Lower

Waterfall 2
Um Yeah, Generic Waterfall, can't remember the name, but its still pretty

Vernal Falls and Me
After hiking a mile up, I got to this viewpoint, but oh no, can't stop there, have to go to the top of the falls.

Vernal Looking Down 2
I made it, barely, soaked and frozen, here's a view from the railing at the crest of the falls. Scary

Vernal Above Rainbow
You'd think at the top you'd just go back down, but oh no, I have to go HIGHER and walk 3 miles back a different way

Dead Tree Tunnel and Me
I took a walk at dusk to a smaller Sequoia Grove. I was all by myself for once, and it figured out how to use the timer

Big Pine Cone
This wasn't a sequoia pine cone, they are actually pretty small, but these were huge pine trees with huge cones.

Grizzly Giant Rays
The famous Grizzly Giant tree, the biggest I've ever seen. Probably my favorite feature in the park

Sequoia Bunch
These are a bunch of medium sized sequoias. There's a person in the middle for reference.

Soup and Aspar at Yosemite
Good ol home cooking. Asparagus on the Grill with tomato soup.

Cable Car
On to San Fransisco. That's a change if I ever had one. Here's your classic cable car.

Bridge Bikes and Group
The hostel I'm at is like living with a travel agency. I started with a pub crawl, the next day we biked over the bridge

Sea Lion Sanct
The sea lions at Fisherman's Wharf. They started taking over the boat docks, so the city let them have them.
Sequoia Kings Canyon

Haight and Ashbury
Still in San Fran I met some friends at hippy central, Haight and Ashbury.

Seagul and Lighthouse Santa Cruz.JPG
On to a day off in Santa Cruz. This was a very friendly, photogenic Seagull on the Wharf.

Bay Watch Santa Cruz
No david hasselhof, but it was a stereotypical picture needing of being taken

Kings Canyon Wide
On to Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks (2 parks treated as one) this makes 12/13 national parks total so far.

Kings Canyon 4 Plants
Combined they are bigger than Yosemite, but no one goes there. I camped two nights pretty much alone

Moro Rock
One site to see at Sequoia, Moro rock was a hike up to a view of two valleys, it was really high and out there.

Moro Rock and Sue
Here I am, high and out there...

Bear and Sequioa Meadow
I wanted to see a bear, and saw two, thank God not at my campsite. This one was minding its own business in a meadow.

Bear in Path 2
That is until it came close to the trail I was on and crossed it. I kept my distance, it didn't care.

Bear in Road 3
This one (could have been the same one, who knows) later in the day crossed the road when I was headed back to camp.

Car Tunnel
We all know Sue is amazing, even inhuman at times, but how did she fit that through there? Ingenious...

General Sherman Tree 1
The largest tree known to man. Some are taller, some are wider, but none have as much volume.

Sequoia Meadow
Preeeetttyyy

Sun in Tree Tunnel 2
That's me hiding in the shadows like always, but I'm actually in a hollow fallen Sequoia. They used to use it as a house

Sue in Sequoias
I've learned to have fun with the camera timer. This is me coming out of the shadows between two Sequioas.

Redwoods Caves Crater

Golden Gate Driving
Back at the Golden Gate, yes I'm driving and taking a picture, safe, no, but I made it so far.

Redwood Camp
This was the thickest, dampest camping spot yet. You couldn't cut a way through, it gave me lots of privacy though.

Flower Redwood CU
This is me trying not to forget my photography skills, um yeah. It portrays the delicate massiveness of the redwoods

Crescent City View
Not the most spectacular city there is, but the closest to Redwood National Park.

Bug through Creek
We all know the bug has the heart of a jeep, they get confused often, but through rivers? Yes we went through 3 of them

Elk 4
Redwood National Park is also an Elk preserve. They were all around the area for viewing.

Elk and Bug
They didn't even mind the crazy yellow bug nearby.

The reason I drove through 3 rivers was to get to Fern Canyon, seen here from above. It was so wet, ferns everywhere

Ferns Everywhere

Bug and Redwoods
Just because they are smaller than Sequoias doesn't mean they are small, as the bug demonstrates here

Big Tree
This one was just called "the big tree", not the tallest of the redwoods, not as massive as a sequoia, but taller

Caves 23
Onto an unscheduled stop, Oregon Caves National Monument. Who knew it was an hour from Tim's house (where I stayed)

Caves 30 Up stairs
Yes, its dark underground, here's my tour group going up stairs in the cave.

Caves Paradise Lost
We hiked an extra tall, dead end ladder to get here. Its called Paradise Lost, just cool rock formations.

Oregon Tree FOg
Once we exited it was so foggy, I was basically inside the clouds, not quite floating on clouds or on cloud 9, but still

Crater Lake 4 Island
On to Crater Lake National Park. It was a 2 hour drive to find out most of the park was closed due to snow, yes snow.

Crater Lake 2
The lake used to be a Mountain/volcano It errupted before our time and imploaded on itself The snow melted and filled it

Ship Sails Rock
They say when the wind blows just right it looks like these rocks are a ship sailing.

Lake and Rock
There's no beaches, except on the little island. For a long time there was no way to get to the water, just cliffs.

Snow at Crater
I waited an hour for this road to open to exit different from where I entered. A drift collapsed onto the road.

Me at Crater Lake
After this picture, the fog rolled in and you couldn't see any of the lake, good timing, remember its June 15th, brrrr

Rearview Mirror Snow
Yeah, Crater Lake was a lot of driving and not much else since most of it was unaccesible, but it was still neat.
Northwest

Astoria Bridge
This place is more famous than you think. Remember the bridge behind the girls house in Short Circuit? The Goonies...

Astoria Column
Kindergarden Cop, Mutant Turles 3, the Ring 2, all filmed here. I am a big Goonies fan, felt like I was in the movie

Clouds at Mt Rainer
After Astoria, OR, it was over the bridge to Washington. Mt. Rainer was on the way to Seattle, but was a disappointment

Box Canyon Bridge
The last pic wasn't even mt Rainer. I salvaged three pics total from this park, but I made up for it later

Narada Falls CU
Under the clouds I found a waterfall, like I haven't seen one before. But, after Rainer, it cleared up, strange enough

Safeco Field- Mariners
Onto Seattle, and what's that I see? Its sun, wow didn't know you could find that here. I loved this city.

Pyramid Brewery
It may have helped that I found a brewery, suggested by my last boss, to start the day with, across from the stadium.

Sunny in Seattle
Believe you me...

Famous Fish Market
Pike Place Market, famous for their fish throwers. Didn't see any fly when I was there, but there's more in the morning

Beer Fest and Needle
The next day I did the museum and touristy things, and alas, I ran into the Washington Brewers Fest. How lucky can I get

Big Ducks
I also took the Duck tour of the city, on land and water. Lots of quacking too.

Skyline Full.JPG
Seattle from the duck ride

Floating Houses
Each one is worth a million or more. Hard to get one of these and they are not going to build any more. They were cool

Ferry CU
The bug and I decided that's enough city for 2 days, time for Olympic National Park. It started with a ferry ride

foggy road
Across the bay to find this. Yes, thats the road, with no guard rails, in the fog, but I thought it was neat.

foggy trees
At sea level it was clear, here it was through the clouds, and the top was semi-clear too thankfully.

Olympic fog and ocean
Normally a great viewpoint, you can see where the clouds stop right at the ocean.

olympic valley mts
At the top you could see a bit further, but Olympic Park is so big, I maybe saw fraction of it. Mt Olympus is there

flower daisy clear
Since I could see much in the distance, I focused on things much closer, and did a "study" of the mountain flowers of WA

Lake Diable Cascades Wide
A 9 hour trip from Seattle to Idaho, I took the long scenic way, but it was worth it.

cascades green river
Yes, it is really that green. Very unique. Lots of waterfalls here and lakes and mountains too.

Geyser and sun glare

mamoth Springs 2
the mamoth springs area of the park has more color and oddities, here's one of the many springs

Mamoth Springs.JPG
The different colors, which you don't see here, are actually living micro-organisms that like the boiling water

Cleopatra Spring 2 wide
the color of this one made it stick out nicely, ooo another spring

Mamoth tall springs 3
can't remember the specific name of this one but it was a high one with water streaming down the sides
