Fifth grade teachers are currently preparing for midterm reports. They will be sent home with students on Friday, September 9th. In addition, you should recieve notice of upcoming parent/teacher conferences. This year the conferences have been moved and will happen the first week of October rather than November. Please make this note on your calendar. Also, if you have more than one child at Sugar Hill, please let your teacher know. We will do our best to accomodate you, so you are able to attend conferences for multiple children on the same day.

In addition, our 1st grade level newsletter is on the way. It will list important grade level information such as AKS, upcoming events, etc. Please make sure to open this file when it arrives from your child's teacher via email. We look forward to working with you this year!

Our 5th grade team is excitedly preparing for the new school year, 2011-2012. We look forward to meeting you on registration day, Thursday, August 4th. If you have not done so already, please make sure to complete your on-line registration. We can't place you on a class list until you do!

If you have completed your on-line registration and know who your homeroom teacher will be, feel free to visit her web site and learn more about  the fun curriculum and her plans for you in 5th grade.

As we conclude the 2010-2011 school year, we are celebrating our many successes and preparing to send our students off to Lanier Middle School next year. In addition, we are already planning for next year, 2011-2012!

Please take a look at supply lists for next year as well as the supplies that individual teachers need specific for those homerooms. We have provided links for individual class web sites to the left and photographs throughout our site. Pictures are worth a thousand words, so enjoy the many stories of 5th grade at Sugar Hill Elementary portrayed here!

We have just finised our ITBS testing, and we are diving into the 2nd quarter of school. Fall conference scheduling is in full swing as we begin to learn fractions, earth science, westward expansion and industrialization, and how to write a persuasive letter or essay.

In addition to our curriculum reports, we have technology news! We would like to send our sincere thanks to our wonderful PTA for the growing supply of Mimio boards. They support our learning in wonderful ways!

Our summer is winding down, and many of your teachers are readying for the new year. We currently have registration scheduled on Thursday, August 5th from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Please make sure to attend registration. We also request that you bring your school supplies at that time if you did not participate in the PTA ordering opportunity. The supply list is available on the web site.

5th Grade Teachers

Our 2010-2011 school supply lists are ready! We have posted the list of needed supplies in the area called "Information & Forms" on the Calendars & Forms page. We encourage you to use the school order forms to purchase your supplies. If you do so, the supplies will be shipped directly to our classrooms and you will not have to enter a store or carry them in to school yourselves. The order information will be sent to you by PTA at the end of March or the beginning of April. In addition to your school supply shopping being made easier, you will also be supporting our PTA and the special programs they offer throughout our school. Some examples are Mimio Board technology, Brain Pop subscription, and High Touch - High Tech programs (to name only a few). We look forward to using this new program. We know it will make the lives of teachers and parents much easier as we enter a new school year together.

 

Our 5th grade students are currently preparing for the state writing assessment which will be administered the first week in March. They will be assigned one of 3 genres: informative, persuasive, or narrative. The test will last 2 hours.

Our students have worked hard in writing this year, and we will anxiously await the results of their efforts.

December will be a very busy month for us as we wrap up the 2 quarter of our school year. There is party planning, No O.R. celebration, end of quarter progress reports to prepare, chorus concerts to practice and attend... the list goes on and on. Please pay close attention to your child's newsletter (it was in your child's folder Friday, Dec. 4th and can be found here on the web site) for upcoming events as well as the AKS we are to master this quarter. If you have questions or concerns, as always, you are welcome to contact your teacher or post a question here.

Good Morning Parents!

 

We are quickly nearing the end of the 1st quarter of your child's 5th grade year. At this time, you should have received 2 grade reports as well as a science and social studies study guide for our county interim exams. The interim tests are scheduled for the week of October 5th. Please take a look at the Calendar & Form tabs for dates and study guides.

 

Please also note that you have a 4 day weekend immediately following those tests on October 9 through October 12. Please enjoy, rest, & relax, so that you are ready for a 2nd Quarter full of learning and growing.

Our 5th grade curriculum night is scheduled for Tuesday, August 18th at 7:00 p.m. We will begin in the cafeteria and then move back to individual classrooms. We hope to see you there!

Class Lists for Sugar Hill Elementary will be posted for parents and students late afternoon on Tuesday, August 4th.

Dear Parents and Students,

This summer we discussed our school supply request and have decided that we will no longer need the black crates that were previously listed. Please do NOT purchase crates.  Instead, enjoy your extra school supply dollars and know that we look forward to seeing you in August!
