Our media center recognizes the importance of reading for pleasure and information. Students are encouraged to use the research process, browse, check-out books, and read magazines. Our goal is to provide students with access to information, literature, and skills which will help them develop into lifelong learners.
We support all instructional areas by providing media resources, facilities, and services to our students and staff. Within the media center you will find 17,000 books, over 500 videos/dvds, and 96 books on tape. We also provide 30 student computers offering access to our media catalog, quality on-line subscription databases, and thousands of age-appropriate websites.
Sugar Hill is a vibrant community of readers involving students, staff, and parents! Our well-established collection offers a wide variety of titles for readers of all ages and interests. We circulate about 750 books per day, provide information access lessons to all grade levels, support diverse research projects, and promote reading proficiency through our Accelerated Reader program. Our students earned 54,550 AR points during the 2009-2010 school year. 409 second, third, fourth, and fifth graders earned an Eagle Reader T-shirt by meeting or exceeding their reading goal. Parents and staff earned 4200 AR points and 30 reached their goal of 70 points to earn an Eagle Reader T-shirt.
