Watch this, and then wonder why so many hold their hands out for help?? |
SUNSTITCHERS
APRIL 20, 2012
We opened our meeting with the Pledge.
Wow! What a turnout! We had 28 present and 3 guests. Many of our ladies will be heading north for the summer and we pray for a safe trip.
Update on Members: Virginia Anderson has sent many quilting item/notions for us to share. Rita brought a big container and over the next few meetings will be bringing more items. Virginia ’s husband has been hospitalized.
Sue Sigmund had surgery. She had some complications when she had radiation.
Mary Ellis is doing well. She has formed a group of 6 ladies at the New Horizons facility and it is a quilt group! Mary is teaching them to make the bags that fit on walkers and wheel chairs. Good for you Mary!!
Please remember these ladies in your prayers.
June Seaside Meeting: The circles will be show cased in this meeting. Each circle will have a table displaying a sign with circle information. Items will be displayed that the circle has made this past year. Each circle will feature a make and take project and the circle leader will give a short presentation about their circle. Donha Miller has an idea for our make and takes and will bring instructions to our next meeting.
Exhibit: Ruth Funk Center will feature FLORIDA IN FABRIC from May 19 to August 18. Quilts will depict something of Florida history. A couple of our Seaside members, Sara and Sylvia, have entered a quilt.
Library News: The Melbourne Library Friends representative, Diane Rogers, sent an e-mail stating that the library had made $377 on our quilt we donated for their raffle. Their book sale made $4333.00.
Marilyn received a letter from the Melbourne Library meeting coordinator, Marilyn Banks, stating the library will not be available August 3 and also on November 2. We will have to make other arrangements.
And then…. Caroline Osborne of Great Quiltations and a new member of Sunstitchers, offered to have us visit their shop (Caroline and sister Diane) on August 3. Each person is to bring a dish to share and we will have games and demos. Thank you Caroline, for the wonderful invitation. More information will be sent closer to August 3.
We can plan a Quilt Shop visit or another meeting location for the November 2 meeting. We will discuss this later.
Suggestion for next year: Marilyn M suggested that the first meeting of the month be devoted to a business meeting and show and tell and/or a sit and sew with a short demo. The second meeting to be devoted to a class project with no show and tell. This way we will be able to devote time to do a project. Many of our volunteer teachers spend a lot of time getting ready to teach and this way we would be able to spend time learning. Discussion followed and the ladies liked this idea. We had a show of hands and everyone liked this idea. This will be effective beginning in June 2012.
Seaside meeting April 25:
We will be showing our Posey Patch quilts to the Seaside members during show and tell so please bring your quilt.
For June 2012-May 2013 Year: Sunstitchers will have two “Queen Bees” for the coming year: Donha Miller and Marilyn Morrison. This will be an exciting year!!
Today’s Demo: Each of us brought a 4 patch block (6 ½” squares of two contrasting colors). Loretta St George and Lorraine DePaoli gave a demo on how to cut the blocks 4 times, turn the inner sections to form a complete new block. Very easy and looks very difficult when several blocks are sewn together. This would make a very nice community service project, baby quilt or lap quilt.
Next meeting: May 4, 2012 at the Melbourne Library on Fee Ave. 9:30 am. We will be doing a sample of the make and take for the June Seaside meeting. Please bring a fat quarter, ruler, rotary cutter and mat to the meeting. Donha will show us how to make this little item. I will send a reminder to you.

Please be thinking of projects you would like to do next year and let us know. We will be able to devote more time for these projects (9:45 am to 12:00) on the third Friday of the month. We will need YOU to volunteer to do a project.
Happy Quilting,
