To our sponsors, prayer warriors, family and friends...we want to thank all of you for your financial support and prayer support because this project would not even exist without all of you!
So that you know who you are praying for, the photo at top left is our student team the day before we departed for our trip (and some of our favorite horses at school that we will be leaving at home while we take on a new team of horse in Honduras).  From left to right is Back row: Natalie Hartman, Noelle Tholken, Bryce Young, Belinda Rocha, Hannah Murty; Front Row: Shelby Bubien & Gabby Goderich.
We hope to keep you updated by this web link as much as possible during our trip.  Internet is usually intermittent at the orphanage but we will be posting as often as possible.  Be sure to scroll all the way down to see all of the great stories.  In general, the oldest photos or days will be at the lowest portion of the page and the most recent days will be toward the top of the page.

   Signing off from Honduras,
Gabby Goderich (Your student Pony Express News Reporter for our great adventure!)

Training a Stubborn Heart

The little colt has finally started his first training session. His first lesson was to learn submission. You can bet just how easy it was to work with him. We had to get him to lie down, which is the most submissive and most vulnerable position for a horse.
When I said "We" I meant Bryce and Mrs.Tammy. Even though we did have to call John for help. The struggle must have lasted for over half an hour. The colt was so hard to work with because he is a stud colt. As those of you that work with horses know, a stud colt is a horse that has not been castrated or to put it in simple terms "fixed".
The struggle to lay down the colt lasted for probably what seemed like an eternity for poor Bryce. The colt on the other hand was just plain mad. Plus before the colt gave in, he reared up almost hitting Bryce in the face with his hooves.
When the colt finally gave in He, Bryce, and John were almost totally out of breath. After the colt was down for a few minutes he didn't want to get up, but Bryce made him get up anyway.
That reminded my of 1 Peter 2:13 which says, Submit yourself to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake". So let's teach ourselves to submit "for the Lord's sake."

If you can't tell, these houses are stacked on top of each other. Or that's what it looks like.

Before Our Departure

Church and infront of the Airport

We drove in our school motor coach to Atlanta and spent the night with Uncle Tim.  He took us to the airport in the morning and will keep our motor coach until we return.  Here we are being dropped off at the Atlanta airport to begin our great adventure!

Sunday morning, before heading to Atlanta, we attended the First Baptist Church in Dunlap, the church that Mr. Chris & Mrs. Tammy belong to. This is also the church that has many individuals that help support Bryce in his mission work at the orphanage. Pastor Randy Harmon led the church in prayer for our mission project and for our safety.

Our Travel Experience - An interesting one!

Seven of us got to sit in 1st Class on Delta because some of our sponsors donated Buddy passes that not only saved us about $500 each (that can now go for expenses for feed and hay for the horses at Emmanuel) but allowed us to sit in first class since there were open seats up front.
This flight started out a little different than usual with Shelby Bubien, one of our student team members throwing up continuously starting at about 15 minutes into our flight! She had caught a bug from one of our college student's who is living at our school and we didn't realize until that morning that she had become a victim! She threw up, in first class, numerous times during the three hour flight.  The entire rest of first class was scrambling for throw up bags and feeling so sorry for her!
What was really fun was doing school work the whole way. (Haha!) You can just imagine how excited we were to do three hours of school on an airplane, but we have to keep our studies up while we are on mission. We were all very tired. Some of us had an extremely hard time keeping our eyes open as well.
When we landed in Tegucigalpa we had all been very shocked by how the landing felt. The runway that we landed on is actually the second shortest runway in the world.  It can be a very dangerous landing due to the mountain pass the pilots must go through in order to make the short landing. As it turned out, a missionary that landed on the plane just after ours, had a very close call. The plane missed it's touch down mark which meant it wouldn't have enough time to stop before going over the edge of the runway and over the cliff.  We were waiting for this missionary from Switzerland because he was heading to the orphanage too!  His plane had to repeat the landing and all went well.
Ms. Tammy contacted the orphanage regarding Shelby as soon as we landed to see if there were doctors visiting the orphanage and we were in luck!  We prayed vigorously during customs and immigration that she could look well and not get sick while waiting in the hot line.  We did not want her to be put in quarantine by the Honduras agency.  By the grace of God she made it through the line and threw up again as soon as we stepped out of the airport to find our taxi driver!  But at least she was still with us!
The first time mission students (Noelle, Belinda, Shelby, Natalie) were shocked by the conditions in which the poor people of Honduras live, the pitiful shape of the wandering animals that were only skin and bones including dogs, cats, horses, cows, and oxen. The landscape however is beautiful and most of the people are very kind and helpful even with our 'broken' Spanish.
By the time we got to the orphanage Shelby was well!  It was all over except for the painful stomach, exhaustion, and embarrassment! We bought her medicine to rehydrate her so that she didn't have to end up visiting the missionary hospital from dehydration.
As usual the orphanage was like a paradise in heaven...green, beautiful, and clean with hundreds of beautiful children!  It was getting dark so we ran to see the horses, who for the first time were not underweight, and then unpacked and went to bed!
Well, that's a slight overview of the first day.
