Welcome

Welcome to my site! First of all no, I'm not a stalker, I'm just a huge fan of the best band in the world and I can't get enough of their music. Here you'll find pictures and videos I've taken at several Kings Of Leon shows in 2009 and also some reports of my little journeys this year. I hope to add some more stuff from my upcoming show attendances in Birmingham, AL and Nashville, TN in October which will be by far my biggest adventure this year (or of all time).

Please don't wake me up

I just had the best dream of my life. I dreamt that I'm going to Birmingham, AL and Nashville, TN, that I will see Kings Of Leon twice while I'm there, that I will do all this together with some amazing gals from England, Scotland, Australia and that I'll meet more from all over America, Canada, New Zealand and maybe Singapore. I know it's not very realistic. What are the chances that I'll ever do something like that - maybe 10% or even less? I've always been a dreamer but didn't most good ideas start with a dream? A trip like this would be crazy, exciting, scary (especially the looooong flight) and a lot of fun that's for sure.

Wait a minute, that wasn't a dream although it still feels like I'm dreaming. But holding my new passport in my hand and seeing all the bookings I've made makes it very real. I can't wait to start this adventure and enjoy it to the fullest and most of all I can't wait to meet some people that became a part of my life even though I've never seen most of them. We're gonna have a blast and this WILL BE the trip of our lifetime!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Woooohoooo Birmingham and Nashville we are coming!

I'm wide awake now. To be continued....

Gurtenfestival, Bern

The adventure started when I left home at 7.30 to catch the train to Bern. It was slightly raining but I was prepared for every possible weather condition. After a three hour journey I finally arrived at our beautiful capital city to meet my friends from www.kingsofleon.com. We set the time at 11.00 so I was there half an hour before the meet up but suddenly someone behind me called my name. It turned out that it was Rich with his lovely wife Debs from the UK who I met before at the two O2 gigs in London. They drove from their resort to Bern. So far so good, only one more to find. I looked up where Anja's (the girl from Croatia) train from Luzern would arrive but it turned out that she was already there. She texted me where she was and what she looks like and I went to pick her up. It wasn't too difficult to spot her because thankfully she was the only one with red hair an glasses smile.gif. It was time now to head to the Gurten. We followed all the people with the muddy shoes and found the tramway to Wabern where the Gurten train station is. Arriving there we saw a big queue waiting to go with the Gurten train and therefore decided to walk instead of queue up. That was not the best decision because it was quite a steep rise blink.gif. Somehow we managed to get on top of the hill and after we changed our tickets to the pink wrist bands we finally entered the festival area.

Here's an impression what the festival looks like from the official site

It wasn't as muddy as I thought it would be and the sky was cloudy but no rain at all. We walked around a bit and finally sat down at a table in a big open tent where we sat quite a while, ate, drank and chatted about KOL, music, O2, Rock Werchter and festivals in general, we just discussed everything under the sun. Around an hour before Travis supposed to play we headed to the main stage where we found a place close to the front. Till this time the clouds were coming and going but from this time on the sky was almost cloudless and the sun was shining. Travis were 25 minutes behind schedule because of the tragic accident at the Festival in Slovakia. The singer dedicated the show to the victims. As I said before they were pretty good. The singer is funny and a great entertainer. For one song he came into the crowd and danced with a girl, told the people around to lift him up and he wanted us to do the biggest mass pogo of all time

Gurten crowd doing the pogo

Plus the guitar player let a girl at the barrier play his guitar and then he climed on the speakers and played there.

IPB Image

After Travis some people in front of us were leaving and we moved a few rows forward and found a great place at 3rd row where we waited for the Kings to come on stage. 20 min. before the time Matt suddenly showed up and checked something. Deb spotted him first. He seemed busy and only looked up once and smiled but I missed to capture this moment dry.gif. Next I saw the girlfriends/fiancées walk on next to the stage on Jared site. Right before we heard the beautiful opening music and the guys came on stage two annoying and pissed girls tried to push their way through to the front. Of course there was no space and they had to stop behind Rich which wasn't funny. There was an argue over the pushing and the girls really pissed off everyone around. But then the kings came on. I remember some random moments like when Caleb asked "Is it just me being drunk or can everyone else see the soap bubbles" biggrin.gif. There were a lot of bubbles in the air and it was cute that Caleb liked it. The show was amazing and the guys were all relaxed and in a great mood. A few times Rich showed his cool union jack flag with "Kings Of Leon" written on it and we all enjoyed the show and were singing, dancing, clapping hands and woohooing. There was again an incident which ended for Rich with a tattered shirt and a scratched arm sad.gif but I couldn't see what was going on. Just a random note: I was surrounded by English speaking fans during most of the time - the English invasion is everywhere biggrin.gif.

At the end we were all happy with the show and after an unsuccessful attempt to get a setlist or a pic (there were no drumsticks at all huh.gif) we moved towards the entrance and left the festival. There was again a huge queue and we walked down. We got lost for a few minutes but found our way to the tramway station and squeeze ourself into the next tramway which was packed! Finally back at the main station in Bern Anja and I said goodbye to Rich and Debs and we went to the platform and waited for her train back and looked at our pictures we took. Then I had to say goodbye to Anja too and went to another platform to catch my train back to Zurich and St. Gallen. I got home at 2.15 am. A big thank you to my friends for a wonderful day, I really enjoyed our little adventure and hope to meet them again soon.

Copenhagen by Night

The decision to go to the show in Copenhagen was quite spontaneous. I saw that there were still tickets available and I thought I give it a try. Normally it wouldn't be possible to get a day or even three days off at the beginning of the month but I just asked and my "boss" (he's not really my boss, he's the team leader) surprisingly said yes (thanks Alex). So I quickly bought my ticket to the show and booked flights and hotel room hoping that the boss of my boss would not insist on me working those days. Thankfully he's not very interested in the who is doing the work as long as it's done (again thank you Alex). So it was all sorted. The flight to Copenhagen wasn't as bad but I was scared to death once again. After we landed at the Noreport airport I waited for almost 40 minutes till my bag finally showed up - with only one wheel left L. Then I bought a Copenhagen card with which you can use all public transport in the city and took the train to the main station - my hotel was right around the corner. The room was really tiny and the bed was even more tiny but I didn't plan to sleep all day anyway. Must annoying thing was, that the toilet didn't work and the wireless LAN was out of order. I decided to go for a walk into the city and also went to the Tivoli (a big park which is like a carnival) and on my way back I found an internet café at the main station where I checked my mails etc. After an hour I bought something to eat and went back to the hotel cause the next day would be exciting enough.

Next morning I got up around 9 am and after a delicious breakfast and getting ready I took the train to the airport. I knew that Angie would arrive at noon and thought I surprise her by picking her up. She arrived shortly after the landing and we straight went to the forum. Katharina from Sweden called me as we were about to leave and we told her to meet us there. It wasn't a long ride but a conductor acted a bit weird and told Angie that she invalidated the ticket wrong and she had to do it again - at the opposite side of the train!! When we arrived at the forum we found the entrance and there were a couple of people already queuing. We decided to join them and sat down. Only a few minutes later a security guy told us to get up and move a bit back behind a barrier. We met to girls, Andrea and Victoria from London and from then on we spend the rest of the afternoon sitting on the floor and waiting for the door to open. After a while Katharina joined us and we got something to drink. At some point Laura and her sister from Finland joined us too. It was a nice afternoon and the sun was shining (Angie got a sunburn in the end). The security guys - there where so many of them - made sure no one sneaked in who wasn't waiting there from the start.

Then it was finally time to go into the forum. We all stood up and they told us that there's no need to run. We went in fast and Andrea, Victoria, Angie and I managed to be at the barrier first (at Matt's side). But unfortunately I had to go to the toilet and asked Katharina to keep my place till I'm back. I hurried but at the time I was back I had to squeeze through to my spot. The girl between me and Katharina didn't let me pass. An argue started and Katharina and I tried to explain her that I was there first and I queued up since 1 am. The bitch didn't listen so I ended up third row. I was gutted first - the girl was a selfish bitch who even stood in front of her friend even though she was taller but in the end it was good cause the security didn't let Angie use her camera and I had no problem taking pictures. The supporting act this time was "White Lies" who were great (I was glad it wasn't "Glasvegas" again). I was a bit worried about the mood of the kings as they were hit by a cup of beer in Rotterdam and left the stage pissed off without an encore. The crowd was great in Copenhagen and guys liked the energy and the love we gave them. I had plenty of space to move and dance and taking pictures. The show was awesome as usual and because of the heat the security handed out water to the crowd which was nice. They didn't play "Trani" although it was on the setlist but I wasn't too disappointed about that.

After they finished their gig Angie, Andrea, Victoria and me went outside and tried to find the place the guys would leave. When we saw a security guy at the other side of the forum we knew we were right. He told us that we could not go any further so we waited there. Katharina joined us and a couple other people came over. We saw Nathan, Jared and Matthew leave in their cars but Caleb was still inside. Around midnight the security guy named Jake came over and talked with Angie (she met him at the O2) and Angie told him that it's her birthday. Ten minutes later Caleb left the building and was about to get into the car but when he saw us waving (and Katharina shoutet "Welcome to Scandinavia")  he changed his mind und came over to us (we were only around 10 people). The security guy told us to not take pictures and Caleb would quickly sign our stuff. Caleb looked very tired and Jake seemed to be in a hurry. It was breathtaking to see Caleb this close. We all behaved and thanked him for an amazing show and he was so nice and signed our tickets and Katharina's guitar pick (the pick from Matt that Angie caught and gave her). Angie was last in line and she thanked Caleb and told him that the timing couldn't be better and that it was her birthday. He wished her a happy birthday, aww that was so nice. Even though it was only very quick I couldn't be more happy and this was truly the icing on the cake. Katharina, Angie and me said good-bye to Andrea and Victoria and we went back to the metro station. Somehow we managed to get out at the right station on our way back (I blame Caleb) and after changing the metro a couple of times we ended up at a station where we've been told to change to the bus. We went upstairs and found more than one bus stations but no bus. After a while a bus arrived and we managed to get on the right one and finally made it to the main station. I waited with Angie and Katharina for their train and said good-bye to them when it arrived. On my way out of the main station a guy was taking to me in Danish and he seemed a bit angry. Apparently the main station was closed and I was the only one left. He had to unlock the door and let me out. Next day I checked out and headed to the nice little airport and flew back to Switzerland. Happy, tired and with so many great memories.

I'm in love with London

It wasn't the first time I've been to London but it was the first time I've been there on my own, acutally the first time I've travelled alone at all. That was a scary feeling but it was so worth it - best decision for a long time. To be honest the memory of how to get to London is a bit blurry. I just remember how scared I was during the flight. Yes you guessed right, I'm afraid of flying. It's not natural for us human to be up high in a tin can. I survived somehow and managed to find my hotel opposite the excel center - passed the O2 on the way there and my heart immediately started beating faster :). The first picture I took in London.

After I checked in I went to the hotels pub and ordered a sandwich (it was actually a huge plate with 4 sandwiches, chicken, salad and fries or chips as the brits say) and a beer. They only got German or Belgium beer what dissapointed me a bit (got a Becks then). After that I finally headed into the city for a bit of sightseeing - like every proper tourist. Time goes by too fast when you enjoy yourself and after only a few hours I had to went back to the hotel. On a random note: I had to buy suncream cause the weather was beautiful (of course I only had an umbrella and no suncream with me). On the second day I made the London bus tour and that was fun. Saw the Tower of London, the Tower Bridge, the Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Scotland Yard, a bit of Camden, Hyde Park (and a demonstration next to the park), I walked along the river Thamse (it was refugee week and there was a big market with lots of food and cool stuff to buy) and I also walked over the Millenium Bridge to the St. Pauls Cathedral and from there I took the tube/DLR back to the hotel.

On my way back I got stuck in the DLR. No one told us what happend and when it would go on but none of the passenders seem to care anyway - so I stayed calm too. After about an hour they finally told us to get out at the next station and find another way to go home. Great, the bus system in London is as easy as walking over water :D but luckily after another 30 minutes the next DLR train arrived and brought me home. Then came the big day. Monday, 15th June I didn't get up that early, eat a big English breakfast and got ready to leave the hotel on my way to the O2 to meet up with Laura for lunch. We found each other right away and althoug I was so freaking nervous I managed somehow to do a little bit of conversation. After we got to the pub a bit outside the O2 area and ate an apple strudel with ice cream Angie from the official site texted me asking where I am. I went back to the O2 to pick her up and we went back to the pub (briefly met Hazy and Annie there). After another drink Laura, Angie and I left cause it was finally time to meet up with the other members from the site inside the O2 at the American bar and grill. Met Julie, Lorraine, Rich and his wife Debs and some people I can't remember the names - I blame my excitement ;). And then I left to queue up to have a good place down the GA floor. Was a little late but managed to get around 7th/8th row between Jared and Caleb and I had a great view on all of them. Inside the O2 while waiting for the show to start

Didn't pay much attention to Glasvegas but they were not as good as I thought they would be. After the support act the waiting was even worse. My feet and back began to hurt and I didn't had much space around me. But time went by and finally the kings hit the stage with their dramatic opening music and from there on I was singing, screaming, dancing, woohooing, jumping and taking pictures all at the same time
Smiling. They played the songs like mentioned in the setlist and the crowd aorund me was mental. It was a lot of pushing and jumping against eacht other (especially during Four Kicks, I even got a little scared then) and I found out the other day that I had quite some bruises - was well worth it. What was kind of shocking is the fact that a lot of people left after "Use Somebody". I found myself closer to the stage and with more space around me. That was kind of strange. I don't know which song I loved the most but hearing "Fans" in London was very special and I loved "McFearless", "Trani", "Red Morning Light" and "Cold Desert" (very emotional). By the way this was the secont time I saw them after the festival in Switzerland in 2008.

The 16th June began similar to the 15th except for getting to the O2 later. I met Laura and Angie again and we sat outside the O2 (it was so humid) and talked about last night. Angie told us everything what she experienced the other night with her well deserved VIP ticket. It was very exciting and the time went by too fast. We had to say good bye and I headed inside the O2 again. Found a spot around the same row as the night before and the crowd was much better this time (in my opinion) or maybe it was me being more relaxed - don't know. But again after "Use Somebody" a lot of people left. The setlist was quite similar to the night before but they played "California Waiting" instead of "McFearless" this time. It was over too fast and on my way back I met Rich and Debs again on the tube - was glad I had the chance to say good buy to them too cause we didn't do that on Monday. The next day I went back to Switzerland with a lot of great memories that I will never forget and some quite good pictures. The farewell was bittersweet but I knew that I would be back again for sure.
