Tampa Bay Orchid Society, Inc. 2011 Show
Celebrate MOTHER'S DAY weekend with the TAMPA BAY ORCHID SOCIETY Inc., 30th Annual Show & Sale - Friday, May 06, 2011 through Sunday, May 08, 2011, at the Egypt Shrine Center Activities Building.
Our Annual TBOS Show will be open to the public on Friday and Saturday, May 6th - 7th from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and on Sunday May 8th, from 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Plant registration will be open to the public, for those wishing to enter plants for judging, on Thursday, May 5th from 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. and on Friday, May 6th, from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. There is no fee to enter your plants for judging. We are also accepting entries for Art Work: Needlework; Photography; Paintings; Ceramic and Pottery; and a Miscellaneous category for all other art work. The registration form is located to the left on this page.
Entrance to the show is $5. All TBOS members get in free.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase.
Everyone who attends will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win an orchid during our hourly raffles.
One lucky person will take home our beautiful Grand Prize through our Grand Raffle (attendance required).

Results from the Tampa Bay Orchid Society, Inc. - 30th Annual Show 2011
TBOS Show Results - May 6th - 8th, 2011
What a wonderful show we had. We started off on Thursday with set-up where many members wore their new “Will work for Food Orchids” T-shirts. Set-up went quickly and we were ready for our vendors before 10:00 a.m. We then worked on Classifications and Entries, with the team doing a superb job of logging in the entries as they came in, following through with the paper work and getting the entry numbers back out to the exhibitors to place in their plants. By the time we closed up on Thursday night, all of the exhibits were finished and the Vendors were ready for the doors to open.
On Friday morning, the doors opened to the public with a steady stream of people coming in the door, all with smiles on their faces. The hall was filled with the sensational beauty and aroma of orchids. The exhibitors put in beautiful exhibits with many of them following the theme of “Orchids Through Time”, showing their creativity. Classifications went very smooth. For the first time in years, we had the judging booklets ready long before judging started, with a total of 412 entries. Judging went very smooth and we ended up with just enough clerks, not to mention the delicious meal we all enjoyed. Twenty plants were pulled by the judges for consideration of AOS awards. Three AOS awards were granted, of which two were granted to our very own members: Cattleya kerrii ‘Canaima’s Gisela’ AM/AOS 80 points, owned by Canaima Orchids; Paph. Shen-Liu Peri ‘Losgar’ HCC/AOS 79 points, owned by Nancy Losgar, and Cattleya Green Emerald ‘Emerald Queen’ AM/AOS 84 points, owned by Laura Newton. The winner of the AOS Show Trophy was awarded to Phelps Farm Orchids; Paul and Patricia were elated that they won.
On both Saturday and Sunday we had a very good attendance from the public. We ended up with 22 new memberships (most of them were joint memberships); be sure to welcome our new members who attend the next few meetings. Sunday was a lovely sight to see so many people bringing their Moms to the show for Mother’s Day. There were happy faces throughout the hall. Everyone who attended seemed to really enjoy the show. Rachel Ashley, from Tampa, won the Grand Raffle, which was a huge Oncidium, that was purchased from So Orchids (a new vendor at our show). She came after tear-down with her husband and picked up the plant; and boy, were they both elated that they won. This was their first orchid show and I think they may be hooked. They plan on attending the May meeting.
Tear-down went quickly thanks to the many volunteers who showed up to help. Those who helped received a gift plant as a thank you.
I wish to thank all of those who made this show possible and helped to make it a success. It takes a lot of people to put on a show of this size and we wouldn’t have been able to do it without the dedicated time and efforts of our members.
