Taylor, MS-Garden expert Felder Rushing will be at the Taylor Farmers'
Market near Oxford Saturday, September 27, from 8 am to noon with his famous "truck garden" speaking about gardening in the South. Rushing, the host of Mississippi Public Broadcasting's "The Gestalt Gardener,"
is a 10th generation Southern gardener and the author of many gardening books and magazine articles. A former urban horticulture specialist for the Extension Service, Rushing makes appearances all over the country, spreading his gospel of people- friendly gardening using down home humor and practical advice.
"We are very excited to have Felder visit the Taylor Farmers' Market,"
said Michelle McAnally, market director. "As Mississippi's gardening ambassador to the world, Felder's appearances are always a lot of fun, as well as very informative. His support of Farmers' Markets in general has been a great boost to the state's truck farmers."
Mr. Rushing will be showing off his pickup truck with a garden in the bed, proving that with proper plant selection and a few tricks of the trade, anyone can have a successful garden, as well as talking about best plants for the South and selling and autographing copies of his books. He will answer questions from the audience and will have up-
to- the minute tips on the upcoming fall gardening season. The session will be very informal and will allow the audience to interact with Rushing, who is known for his irreverent humor and down to earth advice.
In addition to Felder Rushing, this week the Market features live music by John Daigle, Kissin' Cousins and Oxford's favorite folk rock duo, The Disclaimers. Local Taylor honey and sweet potatoes are now in, and vendors still have summer produce such as peppers, okra, and grapes, as well as pickles and preserves, breads and gourmet treats.
The Taylor Farmers' Market, on the square in the Plein Air Neighborhood in Taylor, ten minutes from Oxford, features fresh local produce, gourmet food items, art and live music every Saturday through October. Located adjacent to restaurants, shopping and the Southern Living Idea House, the Market has become a favorite family-friendly weekend destination for locals and tourists who browse the many vendors and soak in Taylor's unique atmosphere. Felder Rushing's visit is sponsored by Plein Air Neighborhood, Emileigh's Table, Tin Pan Alley Art and Antiques and the Mississippi Humanities Council.
Other upcoming events at the Market include Archaeology Day on October 11, and Oktoberfest on October 25.
