This webpage contains photos taken by TCR members at the 2008 Eastern Division AACA Berkshire MA Tour sponsored by the Connecticut Valley Region AACA.
Attending from the Twin County Region AACA, Galax, VA were John & Simone Avery (1931 Model A Ford pickup) and Tom & Donna Inman (1975 Chevy Caprice Classic convertable). The tour was a revisit to locations familiar to all 4 of us as John was born & worked 11 years in North Adams, grew up on the Mohawk Trail in Charlemont, Simone was born in Great Barrington, married John & lived 6 months in Pittsfield before moving to NC 40 years ago. Tom & Donna lived & worked in Southampton in the 1960's, a one hours drive from Pittsfield, before moving back to Stuart, VA.
Our drive from NC to MA was 802 miles which we broke up into a Saturday & Sunday drive up Rt 15 thru Gettysburg, PA stopping at Harrisburg, PA the first night and then on Rt 209 thru PA & NY to MA.
On the drive back to VA & NC, Tom & Donna needed to be home for the weekend so they hit the interstates at 5am Friday and were back in Stuart, VA shortly after 6pm that evening.
John & Simone stayed in MA Friday thru Monday morning to visit friends & relatives in the area. We decided to do some sightseeing on the 800 mile drive home and took 3 days to make the trip. Monday we drove across NY & PA mainly on Rt 209, staying in Harrisburg, PA that night under the I-81 overpass. We hit on & off rain most of the day and were reminded how easily 19" Model A wheels hydro-plane.
Tuesday was a beautiful day for driving so we came down Rt 15 with stops in Gettysburg, PA; White Post, VA(no longer give tours); Harpers Ferry, WV; and had lunch in Front Royal. We decided to drive the 105 mile - 35mph Skyline Drive, and by 5pm were ready to stop at a motel in Waynesboro, VA.
Wednesday morning we had planned to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway to within 10 miles of home, but it was foggy with off & on heavy rain so we decided to follow Rt 11 to Rt 221 into Hillsville, VA & home to NC.
One pleasant, unexpected surprise at the AACA banquet, John & Simone received the "longest distance driven" award as determined by Mapquest, which was a monetary award that went a long way to paying the gas bill!
As you will see from the pictures, this was a very enjoyable & great event hosted by the Connecticut Valley Region!
