Re: African Violets

Hi Al,

I've had luck with Afr violets by using a wick made from braided pantyhose for watering from a saucer underneath. I never, ever allow water to touch the leaves. When I water them ~ once a week, I just add ~8 drops of liquid violet food. Mine is big though so you would use less. Also, mine stays in the same So window all the time.

Hope that helps....Christine

Re: African Violets
First of all - you finally found something you can't grow! hehehe  Secondly - find a sunny window (mine prefer a southern exposure) and leave them alone! I water mine once a week with a solution of African Violet fertilzer and similar to orchids - don't mess with them. Occasionally, I need to remove leaves but on the most part they bloom from Spring until  Halloween - when the sun moves a little too much for my window exposure. I move them for Christmas to a window with the same exposure just to make sure they continue to get some light but then bring them back again in January. I have three blooming right now and 2 weeks ago I could have tossed them but kept the faith and they are beautiful again.
Re: African Violets
Al, African Violets worked well for me when I worked in an office.  I put them in a sunny window and watered the saucer of the pot rather than pouring water on the top.  Beth Novak
Rust on Amaryllis Bulbs
Can anything be done to remove rust on Amaryllis Bulbs?  My sister in law has some that have been in the ground for many years and recently developed rust.  I'd appreciate any advice on this--the bulbs originially belonged to my mother.  Thanks, Beth Novak
African Violets

I have never had much success in growing African Violets.  I presently have one plant and in the past 2 years since I purchased it, the plant has grown very little and rarely blooms.  It's growing in a potting mix special for African Violets, and I fertilize it every couple of weeks with African Violet liquid fertilizer.  Any suggesstions?

Al
