The team traveled to Houston this weekend to play in a Primetime Sportz National Qualifier in the 6th grade bracket. In the first game, we played the Lady Indians. Our defense was no match for the opposition. We allowed 6 points, led defensively by Andrea Funderburke. 5'7 post Christina Nwankpa, amongst others, out rebounded the Indians. In the second game, we faced the Katy Rebels red team. Another great defensive game. Forward Alexus Moore and center Kyndall Franklin stepped it up and gave the offense all they could handle. The Ambassadors scored 40 points, 8 of which were scored by the athletic combo guard, Maya Sampleton. After getting off to a slow start, the Ambassadors inched their way to a hard fought 16 point victory in the championship game. Guard Olivia Haros hit three big shots to get the Ambassadors back in the game. The tough and athletic GC Comets pressed the entire game. Point Guard Mikayla Christian handled their press nicely and distributed the ball well. The diverse forward, Mykiel Burleson, was the leading scorer for the championship game with 15 points and for the tournament with a total of 34 points. Way to go ladies! Like Coach Brenton says, hard work pays off!
The 2016 Ambassador team did exceptionally well in the Rawl Cup Tourney this weekend. They started off with a strong win against the Cedar Park Timberwolves 7th grade team 36-20. The next pool play game was against San Marcos Rush 7th grade; a very solid team. The Ambassadors were down by 15 to come back and win it by one point: 40-39. 5th grader, Alex Nance, hit four 3 pointers to lead the team in scoring. The first game in bracket play was against the aggressive Dripping Springs Select 7th grade. The Ambassadors won 28-26 in a tight battle. 5'7G Kianna Ray scored the winning points with free throws in the last few seconds. The girls lost in the semifinals to the best team they have played all year, San Antonio Lady Hoops: YBOA National Champions.
Great job, ladies! Keep up the hard work!
