The Animation Project @ The Sony Wonder Technology Lab

Young Audiences New York and the Sony Wonder Technology Lab have teamed up to offer NYC students The Animation Project. The program is a free after-school program for NYC public high school students who are interested in obtaining hands-on experience in stop-motion animation. In this 12 week program, participants have the opportunity to explore the world of animation and create their own original films under the guidance of industry professionals.


The inaugural program was from October 2008 - February 2009.  Working with Young Audiences New York teaching artist Tom Hart and SONY Wonder Technology Lab Program Manager Corinne Doron, 35 students were chosen from an application pool of over 170 students from around the city.  During the 12 weeks students worked both individually and in small groups, where they had the opportunity to:

Young Audiences New York

Young Audiences New York is proud to partner with the Sony Wonder Technology
Lab in our first after-school film production/analysis program for New York City High School students. The program focused on stop-motion animation and culminated with a premiere screening of the student work at the Sony Wonder Technology Lab high definition theater.

Young Audiences New York, and affiliate of the national Young Audiences organization, has been advancing arts education in New York City public schools since 1952. Young Audiences New York promotes creativity, essential life skills and academic achievement through innovative and diverse multi-disciplinary arts programming for public school children Pre-K through 12 and their families - all of which support the development of a well-rounded individual.

THE DETAILS
>The Animation Project meets Tuesdays from 4:30-6:30pm
>Workshops take place at The Sony Wonder Technology Lab in midtown Manhattan from October - January
>The Animation Project is open to NYC students grades 9-12
>No prior animation experience is necessary

TO JOIN
Prospective participants MUST attend the information session to be held on Tuesday, September 28 from 4:00-6:30pm. Meet at the Sony Public Plaza under the Spiderman (55th Street between 5th and Madison Ave.) at 4:00pm.
