The littlest Arndt's - thearndts

I know I haven't posted anything since well.... October.....

So I am still working on the photo's but here are the majority of them! Whew, took me long enough!

Let's see Ethan has been enjoying school. They are celebrating his 1/2 birthday tomorrow and he is super excited. I am curious to see if he thinks he is suppose to get presents! He has started swim lessons again after a break for pool renovations. He is getting so much better in those too.

Braden is officially a toddler now. He walks, and well sort of talks... he says alot but unlike Ethan it's mostly unrecognizable. It will get better I know. He has 8 teeth now and is working on a bunch more and I just keep waiting to see them. He is into everything. Also unlike Ethan he isn't as deterred by a meer "No".... he also is much more of a thinker and you can watch the wheels turning on how to get what he wants. He is going to be the one to watch like a hawk!

For Christmas Santa brought the award winning gift this year for Ethan. He got a scooter, helmet and the nerf dart gun that he has been wanting for months. They are his prized possessions I think. He is already telling me things he is asking Santa for next year! :)

The boys recently spent 9 days in Wi with Nana while Eric and I took a much needed relaxing vacation to Riviera Maya Mexico. We spent a wonderful 5 days soaking up the sun, eating a lot of food and drinking a lot of drinks. It was tough to come home but we missed the boys a ton. Big thanks to Nana for making that possible!! I will get some pictures from our trip on another day.

Well we did it! And we all survived! Flying with kids isn't so bad I guess, at least much better than the drive would have been. We got to North Carolina safely and totally enjoyed our time at the ocean. We played in the pool for the nice days that we had, saw Tasha get married in a beautiful ceremony and enjoyed time with family. We also learned that the boys will be getting a new cousin this summer, Eric's sister Trina and Aaron are expecting in June! Even though the boys have no idea what this means I know come another year they will be thrilled! All in all it was a good but too short trip, I would love to go back and spend some more time, hopefully during some great weather.

As you can see we have been really busy. With Ethan starting school it has added a whole new dimension to busy. He is loving every minute of being there and it sure has been good for him. Every night before bed and in the morning we have the count down of days until we go back to school.  He has learned lots of new songs, has gotten better about sharing and is learning how to "make" friends. He will go on his first field trip in 2 days. They will spend the entire school time at the park that is just a few blocks from his school. He is already super excited about this.

Braden continues to grow by leaps and bounds. At his 9 month appt he was 27 inches long and 19.5 lbs. This is quite a bit bigger than Ethan was at this age, in fact the measurements just about match Ethan at 1 year. Braden is a very good eater and so far the only thing he has really disliked was peaches in any form. He has also recently decided he doesn't want to eat baby food. This has been a bit of a challenge for me, but so far he loves cereal bars, mac n cheese and grilled cheese. He has 6 teeth, 4 on top and 2 on bottom and I think he is working on a few more. He also went from toppling while sitting to crawling to standing to crusing along furniture in just a few days (at about 8 months). Now I am just waiting for him to get brave and let go of the furniture.

As a family we are gearing up for Eric's sister Tasha's wedding. She will be getting married in just a couple weeks in Kill Devils Hill, NC. We will be taking the kids on their first plane ride. Should be interesting. I will have to let you all know how it goes, have to say I am a bit nervous about it. I think Ethan will be super excited about being ON an airplane, it's Braden that I have no idea about. I also can't wait to see what they both think of the ocean. Hopefully it will be warm enough to venture in.

We just got back from a week in Wi. Fun was had by all as you can see by the photos. We went to the Milwaukee zoo and had a blast. In the midst of all the heat we had a PERFECT day, it was cool, periods of clouds and breezy! Couldn't have asked for a better day. Both boys were wonderful and enjoyed the day outside. We also made a trip to Sturgeon Bay to visit with some friends from college. Both boys had their first dips in Lake Michigan, surprisingly the water was clear, clean and not that cold! While there Ethan got a chance to ride a Razor scooter, which he was NOT good at, and also his first look at a live toad, which he wouldn't touch (even after I did). Then lastly we went to the trout farm with my parents. Ethan got to fish for the first time, and of course within about 30 sec of putting his pole in he was one on the line. He though the whole thing was pretty cool, although he didn't want to touch the fish!

In the last 3 weeks Braden has gotten 3 teeth, learned to crawl, sit himself up from crawling position and pull himself up on things. NOTHING is safe anymore. At least he isn't very fast yet.....

So Braden turned 8 months old while we were gone and I forgot the bear... so no 8 month picture with the bear.

Well so far Ethan has done 1 full session of swim lessons and did very well. A new round just started and he has gone off the diving board all by himself, unaccompanied and jumped into the pool to the instructor waiting with a pool noodle! So proud of him. Although he continues to not want to put his face in... I will just have to wait for that one.

Ethan had his 3rd birthday this month. We did a low key day for him. Figuring with starting preschool this fall, this is the last birthday we can get away with doing next to nothing. Eric and I took Ethan to see Cars2, while Braden played with a friend and her children. It was a good time, although I am not sure it's on my list of things to do anytime soon with him. It wasn't bad but it was a little bit long for him. He got lots of new fun things to play with. We have all succeeded in our potty training adventure. We have had a few setbacks but I think we are doing great! At Ethan's 3yr appt we learned he is finally out of the 25% and is offically a tall skinny kid, which doesn't shock too many people to learn.

Braden continues to grow like a weed. He has been trying all sorts of new foods. I have been using a food grinder that Bekka got for us, which seems to be helping. I have been grinding up everyday foods for him. He has had all sorts of fruits in it, some macaroni and cheese (which he really liked) and some other stuff too. I found he LOVES yogurt and does not like cottage cheese. It is all a learning experience for us both. Earlier this week his first tooth(bottom right and I believe the left will not be far behind) came through, which will be opening the doors to so many more foods for him!

Ethan is gearing up for preschool also. We stopped and picked up our information packet earlier this week, which had him very excited. Open house day is closing in, August 27. Then he will start right after Labor Day. Somehow it feels just around the corner now. I think it's going to be a good thing for all of us. He will get time away from Braden and I to play and learn and Braden will get some 1 on 1 time with me. I also will have an opportunity to do things with just 1 child in tow, it's amazing how much quicker things can be accomplished! As much as I will miss him, I am excited for him too.

Well summer is underway and in just 2 short days we will officially have a 3 yo in the house! We are trying to arrange Ethan's first trip to the movie theatre for his birthday to see Cars2. I think he is really going to love it, time will tell.

We just had an Arndt gathering at our house last week. Eric's sister Trina and her boyfriend Aaron were in the area for a wedding so it was in influx of Arndt's to visit with her. We had a great time, if only the weather had cooperated more... but Braden was so happy to finally meet his Auntie Trina and Ethan was thrilled to play firetrucks with Aaron again.

Braden has finally joined in the fun for swim lessons. It is quite chaotic on Tuesdays. Both boys have swim lessons on Tuesdays at 10:15. Ethan for 20 min, Braden for 30 min and I have to join Braden. Then there is getting everyone to the pool, dressed and dried and redressed...it's a workout in itself! Thankfully Thursdays are just for Ethan. He is really coming into his own in the water. He is finally getting over some of the insecurities he had in doing classes without me. He is jumping into the pool by himself and even going under water all by himself! He has a new confidence in the water which I haven't decided if it's a good thing or not. It sure make time at the outdoor pool more interesting. But both boys love the water which makes me happy.

I have been crafting again. I seem to go in streaks with this and always find myself to be happier when I take the time to make something. I recently stumbled on a printable pattern for boys pants that also had instructions for converting them to shorts. So I have made Ethan several pairs of shorts and he LOVES them, especially since he has enjoyed chosing fabric. I still need to get some photos of him in the ones I made, I will get on that soon!

The two pictures on the right above is Ethan at about 7 months old, on the bottom is Braden at almost 5 months old with his new friend Brynn! Boy do they look alike! After I took the picture of Braden I thought gosh I know I have one that looks almost the same of Ethan, well there it is.

Well here is to hoping that Spring has finally arrived. As you can see from my latest photo additions... we got a new vehicle! I got a 2011 Chevy Traverse, I can now transport 8 people! Wow does this vehicle feel huge compared to my car but is so much nicer with 2 car seats and much safer too!

We finally chose, ordered, received and got the swing set installed too. You can see from the pictures that Ethan is loving this!

We spent Easter in Wi with family while Eric went to Tampa to compete in a swimming event. He was trying to finish a swim the length of Tampa Bay, which is 24 miles. Some nausea/sea sickness  got him and he was unable to finish. However, even though he was disappointed by not finishing, he knew going in that this was a very real possibility. The race is only open to 20 swimmers each year and the majority don't finish for one reason or another. So here was to the attempt. I am so proud of him for the work and dedication he put in to the training and was so sad for him that it wasn't for lack of training that he was unable to finish.

My last and final big news is we are working on potty training. It became less of a waiting for Ethan to be ready and more of a mom is ready to make him! It is a work in progress as we are just on day 3 but it's going about as well as I thought it would.

So here I am again to let everyone know what a big kid Ethan is! This morning we went and toured the preschool that I registered him for in the fall, he will go Tues and Thurs mornings! He was thrilled about this place, he wanted to stay and play with all the kids and cried when it was time to go. I, on the other hand, am a little nervous about the whole thing. I want him to go but I don't want to let him go yet. So I have until September to get over this and to get Ethan potty trained!

We had Braden's 2 month appt yesterday, for Valentine's Day! He weighed in at 11 lbs 14 oz and was 24 inches long!!! Unfortunately, at the 2 month appt it's time to start shots :(

Poor little guy got 3 shots yesterday and to recover from the whole ordeal he slept and slept and slept! Today he is back to normal and is happy as can be again!

So here we are in February and boy am I ready for winter to be over! I am tired of being stuck in the house and feeling like all I do is tell Ethan to be quiet. I am looking forward to some warmer weather and being able to let him go outside and make as much noise as he wants! He is still enjoying his swimming "lessons" and is still basically receiving one-on-one instruction since the other 2 kids in his class haven't shown up yet when we were there.

Braden is continuing to grow and learn and change. He is now 2 months old and goes for his first round of shots and his check up on Monday, valentine's day! So I am excited to find out just how big he is... we will see in a couple days.

Eric has his first race of the season tomorrow, so he has been busy getting everything all ready to go again. I have been enjoying having him around for the winter, as well as Ethan!

Let's see... I used the double stroller for the first time the other day at the mall. That was sure an adventure. So the makers of the stroller suggest having the bigger child in the back, making pushing and steering easier. Well about 45 min into our outting I was pulling Ethan out of the backseat and putting him in the front, steering be darned! He can't sit still and is CONSTANTLY kicking Braden's seat and stomping on his foot rest which kept waking Braden up, and he had been sleeping so nicely. Well live and learn and truthfully I am not sure I noticed a difference in the handling of the stroller anyway.

So looking at the above pictures is anyone out there sure they can tell the difference?? :)

The boys are looking so much a like at times but at other times look so very different! We have settle in very nicely to being a family of 4. Braden is learning to be quite the sleeper and Ethan is loving being a big brother.

Ethan started swim lessons. He is a goldfish and this is his first class that doesn't have any parental involvement. I admit I was a little nervous about it, but it of course went perfectly and Ethan listened very well. It did help that of the 3 kids enrolled in class, 1 dropped out and 1 didn't show, leaving Ethan as the only kid there :) But it makes me less nervous for this week! Of the things listen they will be learning to do, I think there was only 1 thing that he doesn't already do so this is more about him learning to take direction from someone else. Braden slept through the lesson so we will see what he thinks of them at a later date.

Braden is being like Ethan and when fussy in the evening a trip to the bathroom and running water makes him stop immediately. So I am thinking he is going to love the water too! He will be able to start in the water explorers class when he is 6 months old. We have made his 2 month appt which will fall on Valentine's Day, where he will get his first set of shots, poor kid! He had a 1 month appt and was 9 lbs 9 oz and 21 and a 1/2 inches long which put him right at 50 % for both. Already much bigger than his brother was!

so... It was pointed out to me that I posted that Braden was born 12/12 scratch that it was 12/8! I think it's cuz I put Dec instead of 12 and I have been having the write 12/8/10 on so much paperwork for him and trying to switch back and forth... well.... Or just chalk it up to lack of sleep. But for those keeping track and would like the CORRECT birthdate it's 12/8/10!

Well ... He is finally here. 9 long months of waiting. Well ok, maybe not 9 whole months but 37 weeks this time. Braden Christopher arrived at 8:18 on Dec 12, 2010. We are home and all doing very well. Ethan is loving being a big brother and is quite a good helper too. I am working on getting the pictures up for everyone to see. But in the meantime the hospital has a photographer come around and take pictures. You will be able to see these for 2 weeks, about Christmas time they will disappear from their website. So I know it's been awhile... We have made the big move to our new house. The pictures above are of the new house but they are from the sale flyer.... Sorry it will be awhile before I want to publish photos of the house with our stuff in it! We are slowly getting unpacked and reorganized. Of course being into my last trimester now I am slowing down and thing are not getting done quite as quickly as I would like but hopefully before it snows we will be able to park vehicles in our garage!

Ethan spent moving week with Eric's mom, which was a huge help! He did come back to a new house, new room, and new big boy bed. All of which went more smoothly than I could have hoped for. He seems to really enjoy the new bed! So far he has yet to even open his door, which Eric had to switch knobs on since it had a push button lock on the inside! But I think he is actually sleeping better in the big bed than he was in the crib. He definately goes to sleep quicker than he did before. So all in all that was a good thing.

This pregnancy has seen me at the doctors office a lot more than I did with Ethan. I started having braxton-hicks contractions very early with this pregnancy and the doctor, who was not concerned with them while pregnant with Ethan, is now concerned about them! I had them a lot with Ethan but since he was premature the doctor is being more careful about them this time around. I have had 3 ultrasounds to watch and make sure there has been no change in my cervix due to the contractions, have spent some time hooked up to the fetal monitors to make sure the baby is in no distress and am receiving weekly progesterone injections. The injections supposedly help keep the baby in there longer. I am not sure if they are working or not but I felt like I didn't really have a choice about taking them since I didn't want a smaller baby than Ethan was! So far so good, the new baby is growing and is quite a bit bigger than Ethan was, the last ultrasound at 28.5 weeks had him weighing in around 3 lbs already! Granted this is calculated based on different measurements so who knows how close it really is! Although they were darn close with Ethan, I had an ultrasound 5 days before he was born and it was REALLY close! So who knows this one could be a beast! :)

Alright it's time to get the big boy into the tub and off to bed for the night but I wanted to update everyone!

So it's official, our house is SOLD! Finally, on Monday we got an offer on our house. We had finally listed it with a realtor and boom, SOLD! So the kicker is they want to be in September 30th! So Eric and I have spent the last couple days trying to find a new home so that we will not be  homeless... We looked at our top 2 choices the other night and yesterday we spent an afternoon with a realtor looking at all the houses we liked, which amounted to 14 house! So we have decided on 1 in particular which we will be seeing again on Thursday and hopefully we will be making an offer soon and it will be accepted so we have someplace to move to! I will keep you all updated when I know something more.

In the mean time baby #2 is growing like crazy and I am feeling LOTS of movement and am enjoying it. Super excited that this baby will get a nice new room all to himself and I won't have to empty out and figure out where to go with all the stuff that is currently in the room that would have been his in this house!

I am the most impatient person in the world! I talked the girls at work, I work in the radiology department, into taking "a peek" in my belly to see if we could tell the gender of the baby! My "official" ultrasound is scheduled for the 10th of August.... but I just needed to know! It's a BOY!! Since I was at work I had her label the picture on the disc and not tell me the answer and I did actually wait for Eric to get home from work to look! It was a long afternoon!!!!

 So I showed Eric the name list I had been working on and there are several he REALLY doesn't like so in the course of talking about names, which I use loosely, the name was thrown out there ... Zeus! So that is what we are going to be calling him until he is born. Eric doesn't want to share the name, when we finally choose it, but rest assured that there is no name chosen!

So Ethan is going to have a brother!

So for those who haven't heard through the rumor grapevine or are not facebook junkies... The Arndt Family will be growing this winter. We are expecting another baby, whose due date happens to be Dec 24th! Poor child! We will be keeping our fingers crossed that he/she will be at least a little early!

So far I am feeling quite well. Tired as to be expected and more nauseated than I ever was with Ethan but still nothing to really complain about, lots of Tums have been consumed! But I think the worst of it is over now. I am 14 weeks today, the start of my second trimester. We are hoping this little one will be cooperative and let us see the gender also!

We have been busy so far this summer. Our race timing business has kept us running just about every weekend since May! It's been crazy. Ethan and I have gotten to spend several days at the pool, which he LOVES! He has found huge joy in the water slide. It is in the big pool area however, which doesn't open until a little later. So we play in the kiddie area and have lunch before we can slide! And then it's up and down until I carry him out to the car! Unfortunately he is quite big enough for me to let him go himself yet, or maybe I just am being too protective! So it means I have spent a lot of time on the slide too!

It's just a little less than a week and Ethan will be the big 2! Can't believe how fast time has flown and how much he has grown and learned in the last 2 years. Kids are AMAZING!!! :)

Well as you can see by the above pictures... I finally cut off Ethan's hair! This time I used the clippers and at least it is even :) It's a little sad to look at him now looking like such a big boy but I know that it looks so much better!

 

Eric and I have been on 2 trips in the last few weeks. Ethan got to spend 3 weeks in Wi visiting everyone that he knows! He has learned all about the joys of having aunts and cousins. We have been home for a week now and he is still asking for Tashas, Bukka, Myles and Nana... he says what I think is Belle but it could be ball???? I am glad he had the chance to see everyone and really get to know his aunts and cousins, hopefully he can do it again, but not too soon for Eric and I (we missed him).

As you can see we were in San Fran and had a great few days there. The weather cooperated while we were there and we got a chance to do some site seeing. As you can see we saw Alcatraz and the Golden Gate bridge. We did lots of walking... Had a nice early dinner for Valentine's day (a day early) at Fisherman's warf and then ice cream at Ghiradelli square, yummy!!! We also spent a weekend in Fort Lauderdale/Miami for our business. That was also a good time but much more work than play.... Eric did the Miami marathon while we were there and was hoping the show the course who is boss.... but the heat and humidity prevented that from happening... maybe next time.

Ethan and I are busy during the week watching a friends 2 little ones for 2 mornings a week... in between we are spending time at the Children's Museum (thank you Heinzen family!) and waiting for the weather to get nice so we can get outside again!!

I realized that it's been awhile since I let everyone know what is going on here in Illinois! We are having so much fun! Ethan is getting so big (97th percentile for height!, when did this happen???) He is a chatter box, he talks and talks, it's amazing! We have spent so much time at the CHildren's Museum playing, thank you Heinzen family for the membership! It such a great place to be especially during the winter....

 

Ethan has also shown some interest in potty training so even though I am not mentally prepared for this we are going to RUN with it! I don't want to "miss" my opportunity so we bought the potty chair and the whole nine yards. Ethan asks for the potty multiple times a day so we strip him down and put him on the potty, alternating during the big potty and his potty. He has yet to actually go potty but he will get it eventually. You put him on there and he sits there for awhile and then says "all done". I am just not sure how to get him to figure out what he is suppose to do while sitting there :)

 

Right now Ethan is spending some quality time with the Arndt Clan in Wi. I will be joining him tomorrow! I am looking forward to seeing him and getting a BIG hug!

Well the big day has finally arrived! Santa came last night... it's nap time right now... a break in the gift opening action! Ethan has gotten so many fun gifts already and had to take a break from opening so he could play with what he already opened. Surprisingly he has been really into "rip it", what we have been saying to get him to open the gifts. He wasn't so sure in the beginning but he is a pro at it now and has even gone and gotten some of his own gifts to open. This is fun to watch, although I am not sure we can take him someplace now where there is still wrapped presents... :)

Thank you to everyone for everything they got him! He has been enjoying all of his new things (toys, books and clothes alike!). I hope everyone is having a Merry Christmas also!

Well we are gearing up for Christmas. The tree is up... this seems to be a wonder to Ethan to have a "Tree" in the house. I have also found that since he knows it lights up and where it gets turned on that he wants those lights on! SO far he has not intentionally messed with the tree. He knows he is not suppose to play with it which means that when he accidentally bumps it he is almost in tears about it! ;) It's very cute but I think he is going to be a big tattle tale in the future, the cat brushed against the branches and that upset him too and he was pointing at the tree and at Amber! HEHEHE

Presents are purchased but still need to be wrapped, the big question is to wrap or just take out of the packaging and put them together? Cards are ready to be mailed, hopefully I will make it to the post office today, not someplace I really want to go but I don't have a choice if they are going to get mailed! Still trying to decide if I am going to bake or not....

I got inspired and have broken out the sewing machine for the first time I think since I have been in Illinois! I have been sewing up a storm so don't be surprised if something homemade makes it your way for Christmas or a birthday in the future!!!

Well it's been a crazy month. We have had all sorts of weather conditions but as you can see we have still managed to spend some time outside. While I try to transition Ethan to just one nap a day we are busy trying to find things to do for awhile in the morning so we can avoid a meltdown. We have found that going ANYWHERE makes the kid very happy. Going Bye-Bye is his most favorite thing in the whole world, with the exception of maybe bananas. We have been going to several different parks trying to find the one that has the most little kid friendly toys. We also found out that the library has a "toy" room too! Which is good to know for the cold winter days to come! We have been going to babytime at the Children's Museum which has been interesting Ethan more and more each time we go. It's good for me too, I can get some fun ideas of things to do at home with him too. I also registered us for lapsit at the library for story time and play. We made a new friend at the library the other day, her name is Hope and she and her mom are doing the same lapsit we are. So that will be another chance for Ethan to play with some other kids. He has not been enjoying accompanying me to the gym however. For some reason he doesn't seem to like the daycare there??? I guess we keep going and hopefully it will get better. Eric and I are winding down with the race timing for the season so we will have lots of free time coming up, after Thanksgiving though! I am looking forward to spending more time together.

We went for Ethan's 15 month appointment today. He is getting so big and actually showed off how smart he is for the doctor this time. He told her all about shoes and socks. He even said hi and byebye to her! Usually he is a bit wary of new people but not today he talked to all the girls.... Then he had to get just one shot and a finger poke and I think everyone in the place knew he was there!

But here are his stats for his 15 month visit. He is 21 lbs 7 oz which still leaves him in the 10th percentile and 31 and 3/4 inches tall which puts him at 50%. So he is seeming to alternate between 10 and 50% for height but either way she is not concerned about him at all. She says he is proportional and is above average on development so all is well for another 3 months!

So our first family vacation is over! It was amazing! Ethan was amazing! The company was amazing!

Well we left Illinois under the cover of darkness for the long drive to Denver. Ethan was an ANGEL! He slept pretty much the whole way there. He woke up when we stopped for potty breaks and for gas but went right back to sleep. At one point Eric and Ethan were both sleeping and I was driving when all of a sudden I heard "Bu-Bye" from the backseat, too cute!

We made great time and stopped for breakfast and finished the drive to arrive in the daylight. We made it to the amazing house Eric found for us and waited for everyone else to arrive. Drew and The Betzold family arrived almost simultaneously and the fun began. A house with 5 adults and 4 kids along with triathlon equipment for 3 boys, it was a packed place. The house was amazing and as you see the pictures the deer came to visit us almost everyday in the backyard.

Race day was a bit crazy. The boys were off very early for a 9 am start.  Heather, the kids and I went out to see them a little later. They were looking good. Eric was a bit cold from the swim but the day was warming up nicely (we had amazingly GREAT weather for the time of year, we even wore shorts a couple times). THe boys raced all day and all night while Heather and I tried to reign in 4 kids, quite a feat I might say. Actually the kids were amazingly well behaved! The kids in tow we made a trip back to the race site for the finish line the next morning. The weather was looking good again and the boys were looking GREAT. Drew was out for a last bike when we arrived to find out the boys were in  FIRST PLACE!! They were going to win the entire thing!!! HOLY COW!!!! They all worked their tails off and trained well for an amazing thing. I couldn't be more proud of all of them!

After allowing the boys some recovery we went to Rocky Mountain State Park  to do some hiking. THe views were amazing as you can see by the photos. We also got a chance to see some Elk up close and personal. They were just hanging around a little rest area as you come into Estes, Colorado. There is a small parking area and a lake where you can fish and there the were. AMAZING! Ethan of course thought they were dogs and all he had to say was "woof woof", so were are going to have to work on our animal noises.

The drive home.... well lets just say Eric drove the whole way while I tried to sleep.. A whole lot of red bull later we made it back to Bloomington at 3:45 am... the drive wasn't bad although Ethan didn't sleep as well as on the way out but he was still a fantastic traveller. All in all it was a great trip and I wish we hadn't had to come back yet.

 

Ok so I have been a big slacker in letting everyone know what is going on. We have been pretty busy for the summer. Our race timing business has kept us out of town a lot over the summer but that part is quieting down for the year now. Eric is focusing on a race he is competing in at the end of September so he is gone a lot doing that.

Ethan and I have spent most of the summer outside. We have spent some time at the pool and the zoo. He loves the water. We all went to a small lake over the weekend and couldn't keep him away from the water. He just kept going back over and getting wet all over again!  He is getting so big. He is now walking more than crawling, although when he wants to get somewhere quickly crawling is still the way to go! He also is talking up a storm, so far we have picked out 30 words in all of it! I am sure there are more, we just aren't getting it!

Ethan also spent a few days up in WI at Nana's house (Eric's mom) without us! It was a nice few days, very quiet! But he was very happy to see me when I came to get him! Although since then we have revisited the seperation anxiety, it seems to be getting better again.

Other than that we are just trying to spend as much time together as possible!

Well after an entire year Ethan is still on the small side. We went for his 1 year appointment this morning and he is growing.... He is now 19 lbs 14 oz and 30 inches long. This puts him still in the 10th percentile for weight and the 50th now for height!!!! Yeah for getting taller atleast. So who else do we know that is tall and skinny???? Hmmmmm

The doctor said he is doing well. Developmentally he is right where he should be if not even alittle ahead, he just isn't a big kid! So I guess I would rather it be that way. We are working on switching to milk out of a cup, it's a slow process but since he learned to drink from a straw things have been going much better. So we will see....

I hope everyone has a great 4th of July. We are celebrating our 2nd one as parents :)

Well here we are a whole year later. The time has really flown by. I spent some time this morning looking back at the early pictures of Ethan, it's amazing how much he has grown and changed in the last year.

For the first time yesterday he let go of the couch willingly and took a few steps toward me, it did end in a lunge for me but it's a start! He has also expanded his talking to "hi" and "fish" (he loves goldfish crackers) and he is working on "more". I am sure there a lot more words in there that I have just no caught on to yet :) I am listening and hopefully will be able to share more words soon.

With having his birthday right before the holiday we are waiting to have a party for him until after the holiday. He is going to be forever fighting that problem. If I had been more on the ball we could have done it before the 4th but I was a slacker :)

For his birthday we are going to go and get his pictures taken this morning, then off to lunch with dad. We will be stopping at the store for the stuff to make him some cupcakes for dinner tonight so stay tuned for those photos!

Well it's 2 weeks until Ethan's first birthday! How the time has flown. Let's see.... Ethan now has 6 teeth (4 on top and 2 on the bottom), he crawls very quickly, walks along things, climbs and is into everything. He isn't yet walking by himself, which isn't a bad thing. We finally bit the bullet and ordered the baby gates. Ethan finally figured out how to go under the barracade we had keeping him in the living room. It did take him a couple months to do this though!!! He is getting more fun and learning more things each and everyday. He will wave, clap and point now. We have been working on some sign language with him, he doesn't use them yet but he does know them. When you get the right one he gets very excited and claps for you! He is babbling like crazy and recently we have been picking out some things that he uses consistently... for example he definately says "kitty". You have to listen closely but it sure sounds like kitty and he says the same thing everytime while pointing at Amber!!! Very exciting. Yesterday I was pretty sure I heard "diaper" and "all done" repeated back to me. So we will see. He is a busy little boy playing with all the toys we have been accumulating for him. It's fun to see which ones are the coolest and which ones are duds. Can't wait to see what the next year brings!!!!

Well it's been a long gross week again! It all started a little over a week ago when I noticed Ethan was getting another tooth....

Well he was pretty crabby this time so we had been tylenoling him and orajeling.... well a couple days later the tooth was poking through and then he started getting a fever.... next was diarrhea.... all these things different people had said their kids had while teething....

 

This past monday morning when he woke up after 10 1/2 hours in bed his diaper was completely dry... Not good! So we got up and nursed and while doing that he was roasting! SO down stairs we went to get the new forehead thermometer we had just gotten. Well he was 102. Not terrible but he was so unhappy and so lethargic. Well I gave him some more tylenol and when peds opened an hour later I called an made an appointment. By the time we went to the doctors office his temp had only come down to 101 and the pediatrician said he was dehydrated and wanted to admit him for fluids.... so across the way we went to the hospital and got checked in.

We spent all day at the hospital getting IV fluids and the nurse actually said he was very dehydrated based on the blood work that was done. After the did a stool culture they told us he had rotavirus. Basically a flu strain that he was actually vaccinated for. So the whole thing could have been worse if he hadn't had the vaccine. After lunch time he was starting to perk up and be more himself, which was nice to see.

We are now pretty much fully recovered. He is his normal self now and is not having diarrhea anymore! YEAH! Poor kid only gained 1/2 an oz in a month with all the diarrhea he had from the rotavirus and the last intestinal bug he had earlier in the month.

The whole thing was a little nerve wracking to watch him not being himself. He basically spent a whole day not wanting to be put down. He just dosed off and on and whine, not even really crying just a sad whine. I was so happy to hear him being his loud self while in the hospital, it even brought the nurse in to see who was making all the happy noises.

Well we made it through our first real illness and everyone survived.

Well it's been awhile. I guess I didn't have much too share. I have some new pictures I will get on here when I get a chance.

Well let's see... The Heinzen's came to visit for Easter. The easter bunny was good to Ethan. He got some movies, a book, a bib and some puffs! Life is good for him. He is learning more new things everyday. He has learned how to gracefully go from standing to sitting which has greatly decreased the number of goose eggs on his head! We are registered again for swim classes. We had our first one again on Monday and Ethan was in awe of all the people in the pool. Normally we had been going during the day which meant there were about 15 people total in the pool. In the evening however there must be about 50 people in and around the pool! It took him awhile but by the end of the class he was back to his normal self. So we will see what next week brings

We are finally getting some nice weather. The mommies and I are planning a picnic in the park tomorrow. We are not sure yet what is on the menu but I have some sunscreen for Ethan in preparation! It should be a good time, to get out and enjoy spring. We are suppose to have 80's by the end of the week :)

It all started with a FULL night of sleep.... it was a dark and dreary day.... I went to get EThan up for the first time at 6:45 am, I go upstairs and open the door and what is the awful smell...???? Well Ethan has his first stomach bug.... GROSSSSSS! He woke in a huge puddle of puke unbelieveable. SO before 7 am he already had clean sheets, clean clothes, a bath and a load of laundry already in the machine. Since then at least there hasn't been much puking... but it's been the other end....

We were are the doctor this morning for his 9 mo check up. She said with the bug going around it could be a week with the nasty diapers! (Great!) He is 17 lbs 10 oz and 28 inches long (this is about 1 1/5 lbs and 2 inches since his 6 mo. He is still small for his age) She was leaving it up to us about the allergy. She said we could test the theory that it could be mango but just to watch closely to see and if he gets hives again to give the benadryl. SHe said he is too small yet to see the allergy doc for testing. So not sure yet what to do but I will think about it. She said since I think it may be a food allergy that we should REALLY avoid those food items that people are typically allergic to until he is older (peanuts, nuts, shellfish etc). Overall though she said developmentally he is right where he should be so that is good given his early birth.

So we are busy disinfecting the house, since Eric and I both caught this wonderful "bug" from him :) we are both so excited that he shared this with us. But we are cleaning in preparation of Eric's sister, brother in-law and niece and nephew to visit for Easter. We all have to be well for Ethan's first visit from the Easter bunny!

Well lets see a lot has happened in the last week or so. Ethan is now crawl pretty quickly and can pull himself up on  just about anything now. We have lowered his crib mattress for the last time now too. He can pull himself up but can't get back down yet, which has led to some short naps.... He is also in love with electronics... especially the satelite receiver, remotes, cell phones and laptops. It is amazing what he can do to get these items. He also got his first goose egg on his head along with a bruise courtesy of the step from the kitchen into the family room. Containment toys like the jumperoo and the exersaucer are no longer much fun either, bummer for us.

The last Thursday Ethan had an allergic reaction to something. He got his first "welt" from what I thought was a bug bite after his first nap in the morning and by the time Eric got home from work he was covered in welts/hives so we took him to the doctor who said he was allergic to something.... After some thought and investigating I think it is mango. Although I am not 100% sure about this, it is the only new thing he had. THe doctor did say in the vast majority of hive cases you never know what the trigger was/is, so who knows. I am not sure I want to try giving him mango and finding out for sure either. After 12 hours on Benadryll the hives were gone although he took it for 3 full days before they stayed away when the medicine was stopped. So, he is currently hive free!

So he still has just the 2 teeth and he has learned to click his tongue, which he does a lot!

Well let's see... Ethan is in full crawl mode now. He can pull himself up on stuff but it has to be low stuff. He has yet to figure out how to use the couches for this purpose but I know it is just a matter of time now. He has also graduated to eating cheerios, the little puff things and the freeze dried fruits! He isn't feeding these to himself yet but he does really like them all! I use these to keep him happy in the highchair while we eat after he is done. It keeps him happy at least. He has also tried several of the meat babyfoods. So far he likes those too, I on the other hand think the smell awful and haven't tried these!! We are finally on the upswing for some nice weather so after I finish painting the basement we will be spending more time outside :)

Well last night Ethan did his first forward crawling. Eric and I were both home and cheering him on, although we both know that life as we know it is over now! He can crawl forward now, although not very quickly but I know by tomorrow he will be pretty quick.... So it's time to finish the baby proofing.

So it's been awhile since I added anything here. Sorry about that, we've been busy. Ethan now has 2 teeth, the 2 bottom middle ones. Eric and I were peeking inside and think there may be a 3rd on the horizon, of course since the runny nose is almost done!

Ethan is sitting very well on his own now and can get from there to all fours. He can rock back and forth but still hasn't actually crawled. He can move backward and side to side now but we are still working of the forward. With all this we have been working on baby proofing and cleaning up the house so there will be less to worry about with him on the move.

That's our news for now. I hope everyone is doing well!

So after 7 and a half months of waiting....

Today while I was feeding Ethan lunch I saw the source of his runny nose/crabbiness/sleepless ness. It is small, white and very sharp and located in the front lower left side of his mouth. His first pearly white came through!! Soooooo..... what does this mean for us.... I am not sure yet but better food is just that much closer for him. Not sure how the breast feeding is going to go now???? (a little nervous!)

 

We had a great weekend however. Ethan loved to see his aunts, uncle, great grandma and cousins. He spent lots of time in the pool showing off his love of the water! We can't wait to see everyone really soon.

Well the day has finally come... Ethan can roll over. However he can only roll one direction! :(

This has lead to many trips into his room while he should be asleep since he is stuck on him belly and screaming his head off. Sort of funny I know, but not that funny at 2 in the morning when I would like to be asleep too. SO we will continue to try and teach him to roll from belly to back, which I thought was suppose to be the easier direction???

Today was the big SWIM day we have been looking forward to. Ethan woke from his nap just in time to get put in the cold car, drive across town and go into the big ol' pool. Well Ethan seemed to like the pool. At least there weren't any tears. He didn't like standing on the side but I think he didn't like the grate thing on his feet.  He was a real champ. Getting into the pool didn't phase him. He did fine until the dunking. He wasn't thrilled with it and there weren't any actual tears, but after that he had a death grip onto me. He was ok floating on his back as long as he could hold onto me. He had fun splashing and looking at the other babies. We made it through and will be back next week. The bigger, older kids in the class were bigger babies about the situation so I was pleased.

 

On a side note... before class Ethan was enthralled with watching the lap swimmers. That must be a sign right?

Our group has gotten bigger with the addition of Alexis Lynn (Jesse and Krisit's baby) born Jan 13 th. She weighed in at 7 lbs 11 oz and was 20 inches long. I can't wait to see all of our kids playing together real soon :)

Well it is about time but last Thursday, without any help, Ethan finally rolled over on his own. I knew he could do it. I was changing his clothes on the living room floor and he wanted to eat the clean clothes, so I was moving them out of his reach and over he went! The little punk didn't even struggle to get over! He has not done it since but I guess when the motivation is there he can do it. YOU JUST GOTTA WANT IT!

We went to the doctor today for my 6 month appt. I am now weighing in at 15 lbs 15 oz and am 26 inches long. This is a far cry from my 5 lbs 4 oz at birth and 16 inches.... So this may seem huge but according to the doctors charts 75% of kids are still bigger than me. SO... I am still a peanut :)

He may still be a peanut but the doctor was impressed with his development. She was a bit surprised that he will take a few steps while you hold his hands (or he holds yours, your choice). He is sleeping better every day. Last night he slept from 7 until 1 and then put himself back to sleep until 5:30!!! It is a miracle and I am loving this, hopefully it will continue. He is also taking good naps most days now too, which has led to very few tears during the day. This is a big improvement and makes him much more fun to be around. He has learned more about his voice and can be very loud now. He also found his tongue and realizes he can do many things with it. He is going to have chapped lips soon from licking them. Well it's time for a nap so I hope everyone is enjoying their winter.

Bed time has gone from torture to something to look forward to in less than 2 weeks. :) we now get layed down awake and with minimal fussing sleep comes and takes us away!!! He still wakes during the night but can now put himself back to sleep. We are down to just one nighttime feeding and I am ok with that. It also gives me a chance to change diapers which is a good thing. We are anxious for Christmas to see what is in the wrapped gifts under the tree. Happy Holidays to everyone!

I think after several nights of LOTS of screaming and crying we finally have bed time tackled!!! YEAH! Did you know that a baby can cry for 2 1/2 hours before FINALLY falling asleep. Well we now know this. That was the first night... that was 2 days ago. Yesterday he finally napped for 3 1/2 hours in his crib all by himself. Last night was less than 1 1/2 hours of crying. Wow what a difference and it wasn't even screaming involved. I was starting to think crying it out was never going to work for him, but I guess persistance pays off.

So we made it back safely from our trip into the cold. Boy was it cold and snowy while we were in WI. So glad to be back.

Today we saw Santa and told him what we want for Christmas. It sure was fun and we got lots of great pictures check them out above.

We loved Turkey day it means Ethan tried sweet potatoes for the first time and he sure LOVES them. We have also graduated to pears which we also loved. All these good foods means that squash has moved its way down to the bottom of the list I think :)

So this morning we decided to have some bananas for breakfast..... I thought he would really like them. Not so sure about that. After the head to toe shivers and much pushing the bananas back out.... I am not sure he liked them. I think it may have been a texture issue as he kept rolling his tongue around in his mouth. I guess we just keep trying and eventually it will go better, sort of like the cereal. :)

 

We tried some more at lunch time and we LOVED them! I think he would have eaten the whole jar if I had let him. There will be more tomorrow for him. Now that we tried something he likes it will be time for something he probably won't like (peas or green beans maybe).

Today Ethan and I braved the cold to deliver extra formula (which I received in the mail) and some baby food to the local food pantry. Yesterday the director was on the radio station I listen to and she said they were having to turn women away looking for baby food since they were completely out. THis made me very sad and motivated me into action. I was talking with a friend about it and she gave me some $ so I could buy more to deliver. So I feel as though I helped some babies in the Bloomington-Normal area.

Well... our race season is over. The first year has gone very well with some help from our friends who were there in all weather and at all times of the day and almost night to assist us and sometimes just Eric.

I am glad to be done, now it is just clean up and get everything ready so come spring we can pull it out and start again.

We are looking forward to our first trip to WI with Ethan and he is looking forward to seeing everyone again. He also can't wait to show everyone how big he is and all the new things he has learned since people last saw him.

Well it looks as if winter is finally here. Ethan and I enjoyed the last few nice days for a long while. We spent quite a bit of time outside enjoying the weather. Ethan watched sesame street for the first time the morning, he sat in the bouncy seat for half an hour and I don't think he moved one time. He just sat and stared at the T.V.

Ethan was at the doctor on Monday. He is now 13 lbs 5 oz and is 25 inches long. He was 10 lbs 4 oz and 22 inches at his 2 month check up so he is growing a lot!  He is now in the 51st percentile for height (up from 22%) and the 19th for weight (down from 21%). He got the ok from the doctor to start cereal.... so yesterday we made our first attempt at that. He didn't hate it, but not sure he loved it either :0)
