This big, fat, Wooly worm was in my wood pile and I think he just might mean a cold winter is on the way. I have lots of firewood so I am ready.

Amazing Grace.jpg 2011-08-26 This egg is fragile, not much holding the letters in place, yet survived a fall of about 6 feet. Amazing is right.

This carved Ostrich egg has fallen about 6 feet to the floor and cracked in half. Looks like many hours of work lost.

Trail near the river, do you know what that tall grass really is?
07.jpg
07.jpg
Just the wife and Takoda ( Takoda is the one with the 4 legs ) and some more of that bright green grass.
01.jpg
01.jpg
This whole area is covered with it and it turned out to be Daffodils. I've never seen so many in one spot.
06.jpg

The tall trees are great for Eagles nests.

Hard to get a decent picture when you are trying to capture it through holes in the tree tops.

This picture was taken with a 300MM zoom lens, fully extended and hand held. There is an eagle perched in the tree. Can you find it. Look for the white head.

challenge egg, circle of life

challenge egg-medicine wheel.jpg
challenge egg-medicine wheel.jpg
This is an ostrich egg, hand carved and laced with imitation leather cord. The bear fetish is a piece of ostrich egg and the feathers are from a macaw. The design is the Native American Medicine Wheel but I have also set it inside a turtle (Mother Earth) outline. The colors, black, white, red and yellow represent the four directions.

After chasing this uwoduhi ( beautiful ) butterfly around the yard for a while, we finally had a talk and I told him-her how lovely they looked and would like to take a picture. He/she just spread the wings wide and left me come within inches to take this picture. Nature is truly uwoduhi.

Natures Beauty right near home

This is an album I put together, and will keep adding pictures to it, that shows just how much beauty is all around us - If we just stop and smell the roses. Things we might see everyday and they become so common, we just take them for granted.

It starts with a Sparrow Hawk that visited my back deck one day, how he managed to get in ( it's totally screen enclosed ) is still a mystery. Then there's some pictures of some of the cedar trees around my property, which seemed to blossom right after some heavy rains. I don't know exactly what they are but after seeing so many at once, I now see others after a rainy period.

Next is a closeup of a flower on one of our Lilac bushes, early morning and with a heavy dew still on it. The rising sun made the dew stand out and really brought the colors of the flower to life.

The Yellow Finch are part of our family all year round and they really can clean out those feeders. They provide many hours of enjoyment, watching them fly in to feed, dipping and diving in their flight pattern. They have become so tame that I can fill the feeders and they will be on them while I'm filling another.

Then there is my Wisteria vines, two of them that I have trained into huge bushes. When they flower in the spring, the bees just love them. Again, just like the Finch, I can work around those flowers, be surrounded by bees and never be stung.

The Butterflies love our Butterfly Bushes and Lilacs and the Peonies in the Wishing Well garden are always a sight. We had some fabulous flowers on them lately and I couldn't resist taking a few close-ups of them.

The lightning bolt is just a crazy thing I love trying to photograph, it's more instinct and luck, then skill. Whenever there's a storm, I'm in the doorway taking pictures. Taking lots of pictures and hoping that I might luck out and manage to catch a bolt. Follow the path of that one and see how it jumped cloud to cloud and to the ground.

A storm cloud that seems to promise that sunshine will follow and then the heavy winds and rain from hurricane Hanna. That stream running alongside my property is only a drainage ditch and usually about a foot wide, during a heavy rain storm. I was ready to give the old fly rod a try that day.

I was in my one shed when I heard a loud, loud humming and was going crazy trying to figure out what it was. A gaze skyward showed exactly what it was and those bees sure were active. All the tiny dots surrounding the trees are bees. They hung around a few hours and then moved off.

The first rainbow was just after a light summer rain and I always wonder if there really is a Pot of Gold at the end. Maybe someday I'll find out but for now, I'm content just watching Natures show.

Those Bluebirds are also friends and moving into a new house I just set out. Again, they join us every year and you can walk up to the bird house and Mama will just watch you from the hole. We always make sure they have plenty of grubs to eat and they give us another glance at Natures Beauty in return.

The next series of pictures are the trees at my house, the campgrounds next to me and down at the lake. I love the colors in the mountains but never have I been so lucky to catch the vibrant colors so close to home. The red is spectacular and the different shades almost unreal.

Finally, the series of that rainbow forming was taken just a short time ago, Saturday,October 24, and I like to think it was natures way of saying Thank You to a couple of Very Special People who saw their precious, adopted dog fly home to the Rainbow Bridge and then, in his memory, adopted another Rescue which they were suppose to pick up today. Lisa and Horst, Logan is showing you how much he cares and how much beauty and love you brought into his life. Like the rainbow, those Precious pets are only with us for a short time but unlike the rainbow, their memories never leave.

Mountain Pictures

My wife, Marie, and I have always loved getting away to the mountains and with the Blue Ridge Parkway only about 1 1/2 hours away, we manage to get there quite often. Our favorite time of year, naturally, is in the fall, when the leaves are turning and being a photography buff, I always try to get some interesting pictures. Nature is a wonderful artist and there is so much beauty to be seen. If you take the time to look for it.

We always take our dog along, Thor ( our last Doberman ) loved his outings there and enjoyed exploring new territory so much. Takoda, the Rescued Doberman we now have, who is blind, enjoys being with us but I believe the pressure difference does affect him. He seems to be uncomfortable when riding but does enjoy getting out and exploring. With so many trails, we always have time for that.

We made our first fall trip about three weeks ago and the leaves were just starting to turn. I managed to get some decent shots but not exactly what I hoped for. We made another try today, Saturday, October 17, but heavy fog, over most of the mountains, prevented us from getting the shots I was looking for. Also, the leaves were just coming into full color but rain and falling temperatures make for falling leaves and a lot of the trees were bare, especially those at the tops of the mountains. The fog prevented me from getting shots of the tops of the trees towards the valley's.

I did manage to get some pictures and I hope you enjoy them. As you can see, Mother Nature is a wonderful artist and gives you a fabulous pallet to work from. I'm just sorry the conditions weren't right for me to truly use what was there. Maybe next year but we still will be heading back before this year is done. There is so much beauty there, you always find something, no matter what time of year it is.

Ron-- I cannot begin to tell you how much I appreciate all the detail and attention given to each one of the gorgeous eggs that you create. The fact that I actually won the Rose Egg for January's raffle simply has me floored. If everyone could just picture you putting so much time, effort and talent into each work of art, they could probably gain only a small insight into how much you love Takoda and the work of the Triad. I hope to meet you both some day and to visit the end result of the Elijah Fund. Thank you again, and long live Takoda!!

Just loved our stroll through all your wonderful pictures, Ron. So qeaceful to just sit and look at the wonders of nature & also your beautiful eggs! We live so close to those very mountains that we're hoping to be able to get out more now that things have settled down here. But, you're right, one only has to look around wherever you are to see the wonder & joy of nature! Many thanks and give Takoda a big hug from allus!

My soul soars with the eagles and my body fades into nothingness as I gaze upon the beautiful photos of the land I left behind. It seems so far away and so long ago that I gazed upon those mountains of changing colors. My heart wishes I was there as the memory of every leaf turns to bright golds, reds and oranges. Many days in my youth I woke to a picture such as these. And many Thanksgiving Days my sisters and I spent walking in the woods with my father, talking with the deer, the birds, the fox and any other living soul who came across us, learning their names and ways in whispers and watching as they passed. Your photos bring my soul and memory of these long gone but cherished days to life. Thank you for sharing them with us all.

The spirit of you and Marie and Takoda shine through every photo and craft. Beautiful

Claude and Marie,, your photos are breath taking and your eggs are exquisite. I was born and raised in Winchester and I now live in Spotsylvania County close to Fredericksburg. Your pictures of the Skyline Drive took me home to where I walked some of the green fields and road horseback across those streams. Your photos have moved me to tears. I know Takoda has enjoyed the fresh air and the freedom to run. I know I did.

From "Eggs" to photography...I have done photography for years in the past and have to say that your pics have a lot to say. There is soul in those.Composition is also great,
