Welcome to our site! This is my attempt to blogging and posting pictures. We have family and friends all over the U.S. so we wanted to be able to share our lives with them. Hopefully I will do better than my first attempt at a blog. If you don't know what I am talking about, then that explains a lot about my use of the word "attempt". I think this will be much better since I post my pictures here. Enjoy reading about our adventures!

IMG00063-20100624-1621.jpg 2010-06-24

IMG00014-20100624-1426.jpg 2010-06-24

First stop, picture pose
IMG00015-20100624-1429.jpg 2010-06-24

IMG00016-20100624-1430.jpg 2010-06-24

Yep - train spotted......
IMG00017-20100624-1432.jpg 2010-06-24

...we will be here for a minute.......
IMG00019-20100624-1433.jpg 2010-06-24

...and the trance begins with Isaiah
While you will see pictures of Noni at other spots....Isaiah's spot is right here.

....and we're still here.....
IMG00021-20100624-1436.jpg 2010-06-24

....yep, still here.........
IMG00022-20100624-1437.jpg 2010-06-24

Look y'all a real police car
Isaiah is still at the train spot........

Look y'all a courtroom scene....
Yeah - just me again. Noni is on the indoor slide and Isaiah, well, you know where he is.

Look y'all a real fire truck!
I think they're coming over now.........
Day Trip to Gainesville

Can Noni reach the peddle
IMG00028-20100624-1503.jpg 2010-06-24

Isaiah's turn to try.......
IMG00029-20100624-1503.jpg 2010-06-24

IMG00031-20100624-1506.jpg 2010-06-24

Day Trip to Gainesville

The Lemonade Stand

The Garden
The kids spent a lot of time here. They are out dorsy....mom not so much. But I could do this!

Noni runs the lemonade stand
She said I didn't need money to get lemonade!

Body Works
This area told the kids about their body and how it works, about exercise, etc.

Noni learns about the heart

Noni - the doctor?
She looks fabulous

Now she is seeing patients...
and giving medicine

I think she has found a new occupation
This was the place she spent the most time. Cooking food for Isaiah and I. She was very busy here.

....and yet still, Isaiah was with the trains...

Noni the cashier
....she just posed for this. She really is a shopper at heart.

And so is her brother....
Thank goodness the kids love fruits and veges!

Ever get one of those buggys with the ragedy wheel....
....well do what Isaiah did. Just get another one and throw everything over in it!

Whew!
Where is he going with all this stuff?

I'm waiting
and ready to take your order!

Another Foster Family Production....
Things were going too smoothly. The school year was FINALLY winding down. It had been busier than the year I was President of the Junior League. I guess that's what happens when you have a 5 and a 6 year old. It was time for a vacation. Last year was Disney and Tim put the brakes on taking another one so soon (booo!) So off to the beach we go. Or not.....
It's the last week of school. Well last few days. The kids at my school would be out on Wednesday. My kids would be out on Friday, which was also my last day. The week started off with a celebration - Noni's Kindergarten graduation and Isaiah's PreK graduation. Wonderful day.
Then on Monday.....Tim dislocated his knee cap. Geesh. He looked really uncomfortable. And even worse, this looked like something that wouldn't get better in a matter of days. We had a trip planned to Tybee Island in exactly a week. And my husband is not the type to be left behind.
Well to make a long story short, he ended up going and watching us from the balcony of the condo - which actually turned out to be ok, once I got him, the kids and ALL our stuff up two flights (which felt like four) of stairs. It was a great condo, right on the beach and the owners were very gracious. We loved Tybee and will be back because Tim said he really didn't feel like he could do very much. On the other hand, I had a full mommy's worth of good time to share....
- Walks on the beach (check)
- Walk on the pier (check)
- Watching the gigantor birds dive for fish (awesome)
- Going to the Train museum (check)
- Climbing each and every step of the Tybee lighthouse (oh, yeah they made me do it)
- Eating at some awesome places (Uncle Bubba's)
- Shopping at the Paula Deen store (super awesome)
- Did I mention laying out on the beach (yeah I got a tan, what!)
The kids were happy. Tim was happy because the kids were happy. Even though I had a fantastic time, I was happy to come home and sleep in my own bed. Another successful Foster Family Production (Vacation 2011).....
Noni and Isaiah's Graduation
Today was Noni's Kindergarten Graduation and Isaiah's PreK graduation. The kids are leaving the school they have been at for the last four years! In August they will go to a new school. However, I think my car will automatically go to the old one! We have literally gone there nonstop, summers included. An occasional vacation here and there, but they have been such a big part of our family.
So it was bitter sweet to know that the kids will not be in another TLC End of the Year program and this was in fact the "moving on" ceremony. I held it together though. I can't say that I won't cry on their last day - this Friday. Tears for many reasons......
1. Tears for the last day at a place where they have grown up, with people who cared for them, taught them and nurtured them.
2. Tears for the fact that our babies are growing up!
3. Tears for the fact that I will have them ALLLLLLLLL summer! LOL!
Speaking of #3, hopefully I can do a much better job of keeping up with this blog and let you all know of our many escapades over the summer. It's going to a be wild ride. Fasten your seat belts.
The pictures should be above in the photo gallery......Enjoy!
Disney - Last Day
We got up and got dressed. We said goodbye to the room and headed up to the main house to Ohana's for the last time. We had mixed emotions between excited about seeing Goofy, Mickey and the cast from Lilo and Stitch. But we were sad that we were leaving.
Of course, at breakfast, Noni was given the royal treatment. She had special dairy free items made and brought to our table. Meanwhile, we met Goofy, Mickey, Lilo and Stitch. This was good neutral ending for the kids. Not too princess-y and not too man-boy action packed.
We had not been in one Disney store the whole trip! Hard to believe, I know. But the kids were most excited about getting autographs, riding the rides and having fun. Not one time did they ask or complain about going in a store. So we did it big. On the way out, we stopped by Downtown Disney and went to - THE WORLD OF DISNEY!
We told the kids they could get one big thing or several little things. So Isaiah chose this huge Mater truck filled with all the Cars characters and I think some from the upcoming Cars II. Noni chose, of course, Cinderella's castle filled with all the characters and props.
Happy kids. Happy parents. Long ride home. But it was the bestest trip eva!
Disney - Day Three
Oh Boy!!!!!!!!!
I never finished our Disney vacation.
OK....so DAY 3. We headed to Hollywood Studios. Mistakenly we did not rent a stroller. Should have. Even though it is not as big as Magic Kingdom, in terms of stuff for our kids ages, it still was a pretty big space to navigate. First things first though - this was Isaiah's day. Yesterday was Noni's and we saw every Princess we could. Today it was all about Cars. And that is where we headed to first, with a quick stop at the Fast Pass booth to get passes for Toy Story Mania. It was before 10am and the earliest Fast Pass we could get was 3:30!
: (
On a brighter side, we met Mater and Lightning McQueen from Cars. Can't wait for the sequel. At first Isaiah was not sure about getting real close. So daddy had to go with him. We couldn't pull him away then. He had the best time and it was the highlight of his trip. We had some time before Lights! Camera! Action! - fast cars, fire and such type show - so we headed to see the Muppets.
The Wonder of Disney and real 3-D. This was our first experience and it was great. I caught Tim trying to reach out and touch things. Ha! (Now almost 5 months later....Isaiah and Noni still talk about things coming out of the screen.)
Lights! Camera! Action! was great. Noni got a little unnerved by the man being on fire but after we explained that he was ok and not burned at all, she was ok. Whew!
We saw lots of 3-D show, including the Little Mermaid. We FINALLY got to ride Toy Story Mania and it was well worth the wait. Well worth the wait. Best part of Hollywood Studios, oh, er close second to Cars.
We were very tired by the time we got back to the hotel, the parents that is. Noni was in her bathing suit before I could get in the door to the room. Isaiah was not as water happy as his sister, but sensing that he would be missing out on something, he donned his swim trunks and waiting patiently by the door. Sigh.
So we went to the pool and then headed back to get ready for our dinner at Pepper Market at the Coronado Springs Resort. I picked this because it said Tim could get steak. Have to keep Meat and Potatoes man (Tim) happy on the trip as well. The food was good, actually better than I expected.
We were very tired and kind of sad that this was our last night. We packed and got some rest because we had our "going away" breakfast at Ohana in the morning.
Disney - Day Two
Ok. I need to get caught up. We are about to go on mini-vacation #2 and i haven't finished the first one!
Ok. So I was so excited on day two of the Disney vacation, I was up first. They were all sleeping! I couldn't believe this. I just knew I would see 6am with everyone, well at least the kids, awake. Finally, the troops are up, we get dressed, load up my backpack and head out to the Magic Kingdom.
The first stop was to get a stroller and we went straight for the Dumbo ride. Not a bad wait, about 10 minutes. After that, I changed Noni in a nearby bathroom and headed to Cinderella's castle for breakfast.
Now, we had reservations at Cinderella's Castle at 10:05am. I made these months in advance. Had I not, we would not have dined there probably. Very hard to get it in. So I packed Noni's Princess Tiana dress and crown, had extra sunscreen, snacks, water. Totally forgot the autograph books. Geesh. Well, Disney has that taken care of. One quick question to the man at registration and he brought two autograph books to us while in line to meet Cinderella. Great!
Breakfast was delicious. Noni got the royal treatment again with a visit from the chef to talk about her allergies. Special waffles were made for her. And many requests for more fruit. The kids love it - and that is a blessing.
After breakfast we rode It's a Small World, picked up Fast Passes for Peter Pan's Flight. We found out where Princess Tiana was and stood in line for autographs. Probably the longest wait we had that day. We headed to Peter Pan's Flight - fun....the kids really enjoyed that. We got Fast Passes for Winnie the Pooh and got a Bonus Fast Pass for Mickey's PhilharMagic. We headed to the carousel and rode that while daddy took pictures. Much to Isaiah's delight we drove the cars at Tomorrowland Indy Speedway. We took a break at Enchated Grove - FROZEN LEMONADES!!!!! So good. We ate our snacks and used one snack credit on our meal plan for the lemonades. We had two more stops to go.
We made our way back to Winnie the Pooh. Nice little ride and ended with Mickey's PhilharMagic. This was great. Such a great bonus, because it really wasn't on my radar. The 3D on this is AMAZING! Great show.
We headed back to the hotel. Went swimming. At about 5:30/6 headed back to the park.
We should have ridden the train as soon as we got back to the park. Next time I will know. Instead we got the stroller again and headed to Monster's Inc Laugh Floor. Kids were not impressed. We made our way to the teacups. Noni and Tim loved it, Isaiah and I not so much. He still says when we go back he will NOT be riding that. LOL!
We got Fast Passes for Buzz Lightyear. We walked through Mickey's Toontown Fair. We tried to get autographs from Mickey and Friends and some of the fairies but the wait was way too long. Plus I knew we still had a chance to get some at Hollywood Studios tomorrow or at breakfast on the last day. We saw Minnie's and Mickey's house respectively and that was pretty much all to see over there. So we headed back to Tomorrowland because it was our time on the Fast Pass for Buzz.
The best ride by far for the 4-6 age group in Tomorrowland was Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin. It was a great way to end the day. (Well we were actually going to end with a train ride around the park but the train had stopped running by the time we ate dinner : (
We ate dinner at Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe because I read they might be peanut allergy friendly. I asked questions, the folks were not as knowledgeable as the ones at the full service restaurants, but we soon figured out it was safe. Had a pretty decent meal. Avoided the parade and headed back to the hotel for the night.
It was a great day at Magic Kingdom. We have some items on the to-do list for our next visit. Number one is definitely the WDW Railroad Train ride (Isaiah was pretty bumped we didn't get to do that), visit Frontierland and Adventureland.
I WOULD be sleeping in late the next day. No reservations and not a whole lot to do at Hollywood Studios, so I thought.......
Disney - Day One
Our first family vacation!!!!!!!!!! I was so excited I knew I would forget something. And I did. But all in all it was THE BESTEST trip eva! Here's how it went:
Day One - We are supposed to leave at 6. Be up a 5. Leave at 6. Yeah right. We were up at 5. Kids not up until 6 which didn't matter we weren't ready yet. Car finally packed and we are on our way at about 7:30.
We stop in Macon for breakfast and hop on 75. The kids are restless. Yup forgot to go Learning Express and pick up those travel car games. Ah well, we played That's My Car, find the color car, etc. Daddy made sure to stop periodically. And finally we arrived at the Polynesian at about 4pm. We had dinner reservations at 5pm.
We get registered and unpacked and head back to the Ceremonial House to feast at Ohana. The kids had a great time in the parade at dinner and the chef made Noni her own special dessert. We were most impressed by the special attention Noni received. The chef came out and talked to her about her allergies and made her special menu items and a special dessert.
Back at the room, Noni had another wish about to come true. A dip in the pool. This time last year, she was recovering from having her tonsils, adenoids, and a tube removed from her ear. I promised her that the next year, we would get in a pool. She didn't let me forget that.
She was most excited about the water. Isaiah, not so much. He would push his inner tube out in the water and make me go get it. I didn't realize this was going on until he started laughing at me. Noni, meanwhile, is floating in her inner tube having a grand time.
We went back to the room, dried off and prepared to go down to the beach to watch the fireworks across the lake at the Magic Kingdom. The kids played in the sand and we swayed in a swing on the beach. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..............
The fireworks were absolutely beautiful.......
We couldn't wait to explore the Magic Kingdom on Day 2.
Day Trip to Gainesville
Today the camp where the kids are enrolled had a trip planned to the Kangaroo Conservatory. Noni would have been able to go but Isaiah would not because of his age. Sensing a meltdown that I did not want to tackle, I decided to plan a day trip. It cost the same to get all three of us in that it would have to send Noni on the other trip. And it was a day well spent.
We started off with two very excited children who rushed through breakfast but were very patient. We loaded up the car with movies, my basket of snacks and lemonade, a prayer and off we went.
First stop was Grammy and Pa-Pa. Pa-Pa hurt his leg at work so we took a detour to Lavonia to see him and Grammy. We got on I-85 and headed to Commerce were we stopped and ate lunch at Chick Fil A. The intention was for the kids to eat and play and I wanted to try the new Spicy sandwich. I was not impressed with the sandwich and it was way too crowded in that little play area. So after doing a good sales job about our last stop on this trip - we were off again. I hope my sales job was a true one. It was.
We arrived in Gainesville and found the place. Ink - Interactive Neighborhood for Kids. The kids had about 2 1/2 hours left to explore and they could have stayed for 4 hours! We will definitely have to go back. Without all the detours, it is less than an hour away.
I will let the pictures tell the story. Although I forgot my camera and had to rely on the camera on the phone but still managed to get some good pics.
I miss them today. Yesterday was a great Mommy and Kids day!
It's been too long.....
It has been almost a year since I put something on this blog. Wow! A lot has happened. I became President of the Junior League of Athens, appeared in a magazine, was nominated for an Athena award, was nominated to be on Dancing With Athens Stars (actually ended up hosting), appeared in two fashion shows, got my first coach bag, my first real bra, my first makeup kit (real makeup kit), met a former Food Network Star, was in a couple of newspaper articles...and that's just me.
My husband has seen some changes go on at work. And has been soooo supportive of my busy volunteer responsibilities.
The kids have had a great year as well. Noni writes her name really well. She is adding and reading. Isaiah is ready for PreK.
So I need to catch up on pictures. We took a mini-trip in October 2009 to see Thomas the Train. I found this FABULOUS house to rent and it was cheaper than staying in a hotel. I want to go again and stay a little longer this time : ) We only stayed two nights. But traveling with the kids and grandparents was fun. Hope you enjoy the pictures.
Next time I write, I will probably post the Disney World Pictures...so much fun!
American I Am - Day Trip to ATL
OK. So it is hard to explain what we saw and experienced today. I believe that EVERY African American MUST see this exhibit and EVERY American SHOULD see it.
You can catch a glimpse of it online but to really understand and experience it, you have to see it in person.
Today I saw "the doors of no return" from Cape Coast Castle in Ghana were Africans were housed under lock and key sometimes months at a time waiting for slave ships. I saw real artifacts from African American cabinet makers; a drum made my the hands of my ancestors. Then I saw the shackels, chains and whips used to punish them. There was even a setting where you saw the plantation wives grooming set: A mirror, a brush, a comb and a small whip just in case her servant got out of hand.
Then you were lead on a history lesson, through the Emancipation Proclamation - which only freed the slaves of the states that were threatening to leave....so not all slaves. How some slave owners did not follow this and only when amendments 13, 14 and 15 were passed did things start to turn around - somewhat. You still had some who did not want things to change, so then came the Jim Crowe laws, KKK and the lynchings and the bombings. Next you go through the Civil Rights movement.
What was extraordinary to me was the actual bench that Martin Luther King sat on in the Birmingham jail.
You then see how African Americans shaped the history of this nation through the years: Shirley Chisholm, Michael Jordan, the Negro League. Here what impacted me was this poem handwritten by Tupac Shakur - to me, it was describing his death. Then you see a handwritten journal from Malcolm X.
Prince's guitar was awesome : )
The dresses that Miriam Anderson and Eta James wore were spectacular.
It was just amazing. We had a nice lunch at Sal Grosso, but I think we would try Fire of Brazil next time - maybe Fogo de Chao if we can afford it.
It was the best day trip.......it was a good day.
Mommie's Better, First Snow and Spring Break Weekend
It took nearly a week, but I finally feel alot better. My oldest (by marriage) is here for the weekend and I have to muster up strength to give him at least one hot meal. He is in college now, so those hard to come by. I remember.....anyways.....who would have "thunk it", it snowed that weekend. Some places in Athens got 5-7 inches. So you know the whole town shut down, except for the buses much to my husband's disgust. His managerial skills were put to the test! LOL!
Of course, mommie could not find the camera. I looked everywhere, but made the mistake of first telling the kids they could go outside and then trying to find the camera. Mental note: always have my stuff together BEFORE telling the mock twins anything. We managed to get some snow time in. Donovan had plenty of home cooked meals. It was a good weekend.
So this is Spring Break weekend. And Saturday they had this Earth Day Exotic Animal exhibit out at the Botanical Gardens. Since the kids and I were sort of cooped up last weekend, I thought we might be up for the challenge of an outing. It started at 10 and I knew we would not be the first ones there. So we took our time, had breakfast at the "restaurant" which is what the kids call Chick-Fil-A and headed over. Now I am thinking this is a free event. So I park, trudge up to the long stairway leading to the main building, only to be met by a lady and her son leaving. She offers me her ticket because her little boy was not interested. Ticket? What? Shoot. Was not planning on this...mommie is all about the free stuff, especially when you are talking about 3 people here. HOWEVER, we are blessed by the "non-hurry" bug these days and by the time we reached the door, no one was looking or taking up tickets. Yeah!
So we walk along a path and look at some plants. Not interesting. We find a table and make owl hand puppets. Now we're talking. Then Isaiah spots a real owl. And then this iguana/lizzard looking thing. Both want to touch it. Mommie, not so much. Then I see the lady with the snake. Yep. Snake. They both want to touch it. Mommie, not so much. There is a Gi-gan-tor snake in a glass case - thank the Lord. They look. Mommie, actually took pictures with her cell phone.
I have got to find my camera.
We made a few errand runs and then back home. Those little suckers weren't even tired.
Today we went to church in Atlanta. I had a great time and hope we can make it back again soon. I am going to enjoy this Spring Break week!
Isaiah's Birthday
Sigh. In an effort for my little boy not to grow up and have to ask me, "Mom why does Noni have so many pictures of her birthdays and I don't", mommie organized another memorable Foster b-day party. There is this place in a nearby town called Funopolis. It is this huge arcade/playroom/kid on steroid game place you can imagine. And Mommie had the flu the day of the party. I had some strange version of it: bloodshot eyes, achy body, fatigue....no runny nose, no congestion...just weird. But I felt horrible. However, invitations had gone out, room booked, show must go on. Mommie CAN NOT be sick.
It turned out to be fabulous. The folks there are very time conscious because they have parties booked back to back. The kids had the best time in the Inflatibles. The little roll car things - not so much. But they all got game cards and were able to play whatever they liked. Dad and I had to really look for toddler games, but found skee-ball, things you can bop, ride and shoot....Isaiah got lots of Cars and Thomas. But the best thing of all and the thing he talked about for the next couple of days was - the balloons. Go figure.
Of course, mommie remained sick for the next week. Dragging herself to work because I was running a book competition with some of the students. And then piling herself into bed afterwards. It was not pretty. But mommie managed to pull off yet another Foster Fantabulous B-day.
Ballet Lessons
So who says you live your missed childhood dreams through your children? Well maybe I am, maybe I'm not....but Noni sure does look cute in this leotard and tights. She is so excited to be going to ballet class and we are so blessed to have East Athens Educational Dance Center. It is through the Parks and Recreation department in our county so it does not cost as much as some of the private ones. And quite frankly, we just don't have the money for the private ones. They can get as high as $60 a month. EAEDC was less than $30 for Jan - May, plus the recital. Yikes! Our little girl is going to be onstage!
I think I managed to get a picture of her during her very first class. The EAEDC folks are very, very strict. I really can't watch her practice, etc. But so far, so good and she just loves it! It provides some bonding time for the boys on Wednesdays too.
Busy Week...Uh Month!
O.k. so I haven't updated since Christmas!!! So here goes...
We had a great Christmas eve. We made birthday cakes for Jesus, cookies for Santa and said goodbye to Cake. I thought the kids were getting emotional for a second when Isaiah said, "Does Cake weally have to weave." But Tim and I reassured both of them that he would be back Thanksgiving.
Christmas Day was fantastic seeing all of the family, especially my cousin Vernique. I am glad she is spending more time with us. I had this plan to go up to Carnesville and see my folks at least once a month. We missed January, so we are not doing to good with that. But the kids will be up there next week while I am in Birmingham for a Junior League conference.
O.k. back to Christmas. The kids got tons of clothes from Grandma Ruby, Grammy, Pa-Pa, Auntie Winnie and Cousin Laura. Santa brought Isaiah Thomas the Train set. Isaiah calls it Thomas' house. Noni got lots of girly dress up things from Santa and more beads for necklace making. From mom and dad, the kids both got plasma cars. It has been so cold they have not had a chance to really explore them. The store we got them from is great - Learning Express (we support local business!!!!) and they personalized them for the kids with the kids names on the back.
Isaiah's birthday is coming up and I have no idea what we are going to do. Tim and I really don't celebrate Valentine's day much because our anniversary is in March and his birthday.
****Started this, never finished it and so much has happened in between. Stay tuned*****

Noni's Birthday
We have always tried to do something for our children's birthdays. We are from the South so it's very common to have birthday parties starting on the First birthday. Yeah sure the kids won't remember but you always have pictures and memories. Both of our children are miracles. Noni has come a long way from 3 1/2 pounds, on heart monitors and suffering from reflux.
So this year's festivities centered around a princess theme. On her actual birthday, Daddy took cookies to her school and she wore her princess crown. We gave her a bracelet with her name on it. Ah to be that little again. Of course it is too big for her arm.
Last Saturday, we went to Southern Belles and Beaus. They have a room upstairs in their shop and it has all the fixins' for a princess extravaganza. When you come up the stairs, they have sign announcing whose birthday it is. Then the little princess wanna-bes go into this room with all of these dresses, from Tinker Bell to Belle, they have it all. Next Cinderella comes up the stairs. She does their make-up. Then she puts on music and they get to dance with Cinderella.
Next comes the tea party. All the little angels that choose gloves are asked to remove them during the food part of the party. Cinderella serves them ham sandwhiches (usually peanut butter, but Noni is allergic), fresh fruit, and cheese puffs. Pink lemonade is the "tea". Then a cake is brought out that Noni gets to take home, they sing Happy Birthday and Noni blows out the candles. Cupcakes are served.
Next it is present time. Cinderella helps Noni with her gifts. Last they sit on the floor with Cinderella and she sings all of the princess songs from the Disney movies.
This was fabulous. Two hours worth of fun and Noni had the time of her life. Something she won't forget. Mommy and Daddy had a good time too. It was able to relax and enjoy!
Saturdays, Saturdays, Saturdays
I am figuring out that if I want to stay sane on the weekends, we must leave the house at least once. If not, there will be this constant line of questions about what I am doing, what are we going to do....geesh and my kids are only 2 and 4. So I try to get us out of the house on Saturdays. Amongst all that must get done on the weekends: laundry, grocery shopping, bill paying...I try to do something outside of the house, even if it is taking them along when I do one of the above.
So two Saturdays ago, I managed to get us dressed, faces washed, teeth brushed (even mine) and a meal in the crockpot by 9:45am. Then we were off to Chick-Fil-A - gotta love them. This was our second or third attempt at breakfast outside the home and I must say, it went relatively smooth. Noni did not ask to go the bathroom during breakfast and Isaiah used his inside voice.
I was feeling adventurous after breakfast and decided we head down to the Georgia Museum of Art. They have these Family Days, usually once a month. But I have never been able to get our acts together before it ends at noon. It was 11am and I thought what the heck.
When we get there, I guess the inside voice man had gone to sleep and Isaiah talked in his normal level 10 voice. Just as we were coming in the door, he says, "Look mommy it's Chri-masss" - they were singing Christmas carols in the lobby, rather softly I might add, so level 10 was just enough to draw attention.
I quickly found out where the craft and art stuff was going on and we went back there. We found a few seats at the table and the kids were happy. We ended up making an ornament for the tree, reindeer hats and bracelets. I am learning to relax a little at these things and kind of let them free fall....within limits....makes for a more exciting and discovery time. I really didn't have any problem with exiting. We got out of the building and into the car with no tears or complaints. Now I am really feeling adventurous.
So we head to Sam's. Thinking back on it now, I usually avoid the food people when I have the kids. I know this Sam's pretty well. Well enough to know where they are usually stationed. But I must have been still in the clouds at what a wonderful day we were having, that I forgot. So Noni asks for some of whatever that lady had. Great. Chicken fried rice in little cups. All I see is a trail of rice behind our cart. All Noni sees is a snack. My first thought was the right one. Cup of rice on the floor. Clean up on aisle 8.
So I should have quit while I was ahead. But nooooooo. I truck it on down to Publix. Half thinking that I would wear the little suckers out and half really wanting to get all my errands done. We all were ready to be home after that.
Unfortunately, I did not wear them down enough for nap (which they have stopped taking on Saturdays). But fortunately there was a delicious crockpot Asian chicken dish ready when we got home.
All in all....it was a good Saturday.

Cake's First Night
Last night we started the elf on the shelf tradition. There is a book you can get at most book stores. It has an elf and a book to tell the story. The elf reports to Santa each night and comes back in the morning in a different spot. Courtesy of a gift card to Borders, I purchased this book yesterday. The children must name their elf. My lovelies came up with name, "Cake". They were in total agreement.
We read the story before going to bed last night and Cake sat on the clothes hamper and watched while we said our prayers (that part is in the book too), great planning or really chance happening on our part. This morning I had forgotten that I moved Cake downstairs. Isaiah woke up first and thought nothing of Cake. He wanted vitamins and milk like always. Noni on the other hand was a river of tears over the fact that Cake had not returned from his visit with Santa Claus. So not wanting to miss this on videotape, I quickly reminded her we must find Cake each and every day until he finally does go to live with Santa on Christmas day. (don't know how we are going to work this into the morning rush - but I'm a mom - we'll work something out)
I did manage to record some of the hunt for Cake this morning, but I can't get it to upload. I will try later. I wish I had gotten the before search conversation with Noni. Isaiah, on the other hand, was still not that moved by this. Interesting the way they can react differently to thing, but in some aspects react so much alike. You just never know with kids.
Day Before Thanksgiving
So it is going to be low key tomorrow. My husband requested a ham. I am going to attempt a cabbage casserole. And then we will probably have yams, too. I got the kids winter pjs today. They decided to put on their hats while playing. Ironically they matched! Ha! It never is a dull moment around here.
Our oldest child will be here Friday. And then we have funeral Saturday. We lost two relatives this week and that has been rough on us and our extended family. But we both come from strong families, so lots of prayers, memories and love.
Noni's got a cold and I think the medicine has worn off. It also sounds like it is time for a breathing treatment - she is such a trooper about those.
