Happy New Year!
We celebrated New year's Eve with our Farm Friends while Nana baby sat...we are SO lucky to have her! As is tradition, we started off the night at Mimi's, a local Japanese Steak House. 6 bottles of Sake later and we headed back to our friends house to watch the ball drop. We alll had to laugh though because 12:00 couldn't come quick enough- we decided we are all getting old.
We hope 2010 brings everyone much laughter, joy and success. Lets give thanks for all the good things that happened in 2009 and look forward to an EVEN better year. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Parker's First Visit from Santa!
Christmas came and went faster than ever this year- but this year with Parker it had an even extra special meaning. It is going to be so fun reliving some of the traditions we shared as kids and also starting some new ones. Parker even set out Santa's coookies and Rudolph's carrot!
As usual we each got to open one present on Christmas eve. A lot of my friends have started the tradition of new PJs on Chrismas Eve and as you can see from the pictures we alll got new PJs and Patrick was such a good sport to wear his cute flannel Christmas jammies. I think it definitely made for some fun kodak moments!
This year for the first time since we have been married we were home, in our own house on Christmas morning. It was so nice to be able to wake up in our own beds and then rush out to see what Santa had brought us all. We were lucky enough to have my parents and Uncle Drew on hand for the fun! Parker was most interested in the wrapping paper and boxes and in his true easy going manner he sat there for over an hour and watched us unwrap gifts. Of course we had to stop every few minutes to snap another picture because he looked too darn cute in his little santa hat. I figured next year he will be too old for silly little things like this so I might as well take advantage of it before he's too grown up!
After a quick Christmas Morning breakfast we all headed out to my parent's house at Lake Keowee for round two of presents and good food! Since Uncle Drew has his first new place he got lots of essentials this year...not particularly exciting but necessary! We finished up the night with my mom's traditional prime rib dinner and then headed down to the basment for a heated game of corn hole with Drew and I facing off against my Dad and Patrick...we got whipped!
Now that it is all over I am always a bit sad...I hate to put alll the decorations away because it means its a whole nother year until Christmas comes again but I know next year will be even more fun!
Happy New Year Everyone- we are so blessed to have you in our lives!
Gobble, Gobble
So I am little behind in updating my blog...since Christmas is just three days away I figured it was time to finally upload the pictures from Parker's first Turkey Day (see below). This thanksgiving we had a lot to be thankful for- we are all healthhy, have great jobs, wonderful friends and of course family here to celebrate with. This is the first time Patrick and I have had family to our house for the big day and all got involved in coooking the feast. We had all the usuals as well as some new fun traditions started by Patrick and his sous chef, my brother Drew. It was fun watching Parker try to figure out what to do with the mashed potatoes. He didn't like how sticky they were and prefered to play in them over eating them. He did enjoy the baby food squash and sweet potatoes though...he continues to be a great eater!!!
All I want for Christmas are my two front teeth...oh wait!
Parker has already gotten his Christmas list and then some! His bottom two teeth were first to arrive and then following quickly after his four top teeth- ALL AT ONCE!! Poor little thing- he has had a rough go of it. Lots of tears and sleepless nights trying to struggle through the pain. Thank goodness for Motrin and teething tablets! Its so hard to watch your little one not feeeling well! I have been trying to capture a shot of his cute teeth but its hard since he is now on the move ALL THE TIME! Hopefully we can get a shot soon!
Our Little Lobster!
We are constantly amazed at how happy and easy going Parker is. Perfect case in point is his Halloween costume. Most babies I know can't stand having anything on their head...as you can see Parker doesn't mind. He just rolls with whatever we toss his way. I'm sorry I am just getting around to posting his Halloween pictures....definetly check out our little lobster! He loved his costume and hammed it up for all of our friends on the farm!
I am sitting up!!!!
Happy 7 month birthday Parker! It is SO hard to believe that 7 months have passed since we welcomed Parker into our lives. Time really does fly! As always, a lot has gone on this past month. Parker is now eating all kinds of fun things...his favorites continue to be sweet potatoes, carrots, green beans and pears. We even tried some Gerber yougurt melts...not quite sure about those yet! He has two little teeth on the bottom and loves playing with them with his tongue. He pushes his lower lip out and looks like a little monkey when he does it. I have been dying to catch it on film- its priceless and pretty dang cute!!! As you can see from the pictures below another major accomplishment this month is that Parker is now sitting up. Nana kept putting him in a "tripod" position and alll it took was one weekend and he mastered it! He loves spending time on the floor and is getting closer and closer to crawling. We wish you all a wonderful Turkey Day!!! Love the Halpins!
6 Month Update
Hello Again- as always there have been lots of exciting things happening in the Halpin Household. The big announcement of the month is Parker's first tooth! It arrived with much fan fare in the way of MANY sleepless nights so Mommy and Daddy are glad it has finally cut through! We think tooth number two is close behind so hopefully we can catch a picture soon for all to see!
We are also getting closer and closer to crawling every day. The minute he rolls onto his tummy he is "swimming" and scooting and trying his darndest to push up and move. Its pretty funny to watch and I just love seeing how hard he tries!
We just had a our six month check up and he is still growing like a weed. Knowing how Patrick and I are built this probably won't surprise you- Parker is 70% in heigth and 13% in weight :) He got his shots like a champ and only cried for a few seconds! We've finally added soilds into Parker's feeding routine. The current favorites are sweet pottatoes, peas and apples. The faces he makes are PRICELESS. I will make sure to upload some of the pictures of him eating soon!
This month Nana and Papa Mathews along with Uncle Drew made the permanent move to SC! It is so nice to have them close by. We look forward to sharing many fun times together!
All and all things are great for us. We have been enjoying some VERY cool weather lately and are looking forward to Parker's first Halloween. Check back soon for more updates and also check out the latest pictures.
5 Month Update
Sorry for the belated updates!! We have been SO busy lately and I just haven't been able to find even five minutes to sit down and write an update. Lots has happened since Parker's 4 month birthday and we are having such a blast watching him grow and change every day. At 5 months Parker is 15 pounds and 26". He is now sleeping for 8 hours at night giving his mommy and daddy a chance to get some more sleep! Be sure to check out the latest photos from all of the fun things we have been up to lately!
Here are a few highlights from the last month:
- At Parker's last check up we go the green light to start solids. Now that a month has passed we finally found a time when we were both in town to try them for the first time. The pictures are pretty funny- he didn't quite know what to think of the cereal or high chair!
- Over labor day weekend we headed to CA to visit our good friends the Bordessa Family. Gianna, their beautiful girl is my God Daughter so we used her baptism as a good excuse to get a way for a few days. They live on an organic dairy near Bodega Bay in Northern CA, in a beautifully restored farm house. Parker had fun checking out the cows, and playing with all of Gianna's toys. We also went fishing in Tomales Bay, had a nice lunch in Peteluma, went wine tasting and ate freshly caught white sea bass...yum yum! Our visit was too quick and it reminded us how we don't get to see our goood friends often enough!. Parker was once again an angel on the flights...we are so blessed to have such a good little traveler!
- We also had a visit from Grandpa and Grandma Fosdick who spoiled Parker with lots of fun toys and cute fall outfits. Thank goodness Aunt Jenni has a job at Carters so we all get good deals! During their visit we went on lots of walks and even enjoyed the gorgeous fall weather during a picnic in Falls Park. Thank you for coming to visit us! We had fun!
- This month we also welcomed my family to town! They have decided to rent their home out in CA and move here to test the waters for a year. If they like it, which we hope they do they may decide to move here permanently. They have moved into a beautiful home on Lake Keowee- about an hour away. It is so nice to have them here and we have already had fun helping them move in and enjoying the amenities that their neighborhood had to offer.
- On October 1 Patrick and I celebrated our 4th anniversary. Uncle Drew was nice enough to stay with Parker so Patrick and I could get away for a yumy dinner at the Melting Pot. With all of the coming and go we have been doing lately it was nice to get away even if only for a few hours!
4 months- SO BIG!
Last week we had Parker's 4 month well check. Just as we suspected he is indeed growing like a weed. I keep telling him never to grow up but he's just not listening. He is now 13 1/2 pounds and 25 inches long. He has been growing out of lots of his cute outfits and even moved up into size 2 diapers. He's now smiling away and even giggling every once in while. We've caught him on his tummy a few times in his crib but still haven't seen him actually roll over- he's trying though. Every day is an adventure and so much fun. I just try to take every moment in because I know the time will fly by way too fast!
Spoiled
Parker was in heaven last week as we had Grandma Barb and Grandpa Bud visiting from CA for the week. I don't think there was one second during the day when Parker didn't have the attention of his doting Grandpa and Grandma. It was amazing to watch him respond to all of the attention and interaction. Barb took some great pictures of Parker smiling and enjoying his floor gym and bouncy seats. We really noticed a difference in how responsive Parker was after this time spent withGrandma. He really pays attention to books now, studies people's faces, reaches for toys, coos, trys to "talk" and smiles in response to different things. We even had him giggling one night as Sadie chased the red laser light around the kitchen. It was too precious- his first "laugh out loud"!
When Parker hasdreturn to day care after Grandpa and Grandma left I think he was a little confused. Miss Izzie and Miss Ann said he didn't want to be put down or be out of sight from either of them for even a minute. However, neither of them blamed Grandma and Grandpa for spoiling him because they said they would do the same thing.
Thank you to G & G Fosdick for all of their help while they were here and for the company and good conversation. Parker says you can come back any time and we agree!
Planes, Trains and Automobiles
Last week we headed up to MN for Patrick's sister, Kristin's wedding. I am happy to report that we survived our first major trip! Parker was our little champ. Luckily flying with him was a breeze. We just decided to forgo any type of schedule and let him eat when he cried and sleep when he wanted to. That helped keep him happy and content on all 4 legs of our journey.
It was great for the Halpin side of the family to finally meet Parker. He enjoyed being passed back and forth between Grandma, Aunts, Uncles and even friends of the family. It was nice for Mommy to get a tiny break too and I even got to sit and swing and relax for a few minutes...that doesn't happen much these days.
The wedding of Kristin and Kyle was a great day. Their cermony was beautiful with the bride and groom stealing the show. Parker lasted through most of the ceremony but then he got squirmy so I joined a few of the other parent-baby combos in the church's "crying room." It was amazing that there were 3 other babies less than 6 months old at the wedding too. Parker had a lot of friends.
After the ceremony we headed to Lakeville MN for the reception. I will tell you one thing- the Halpins and Vansickles know how to have a good time...I mean GREAT time! They danced and danced and then danced some more. I watched most of the fun from the hotel's hallway because little Parker was sleeping, but it was fun never-the-less! The ballroom looked beautiful with hot pink and bright orange gerber daisey centerpieces, a candy table (especially for the adults...I mean kids) and a really cool cupcake "cake" custom made by Kristin's Dad and Josh. Good work everyone!
Patrick and I decided that the wedding and traveling wasn't quite enough activity for one week so we headed to Boone Iowa so Grandma and Grandpa Buechler and Grandma Betty could meet their great grandson. Again Parker was a pretty good traveler...only crying when he got tired or hungry. Daddy played chaufer most of the drive so I could stay in the back and keep Parker entertained.
I just love when we get to spend time with Patrick's family in MN. Its so fun for me because I come from a small family so to have all of the brothers, sisters, sunts, uncles and friends around is great fun! We swam, enjoyed Sue & Denny's gorgeous backyard, grilled out, played croquet and just sat around talking. I wish we lived closer so we could see them more often!
Happy 4th of July!
We hope you all had a great 4th of July! In the morning I got the chance to escape for a few hours and went down to the wonderful Greenville Farmer's Market with some girlfriends. We got all kinds of yummy things and even had time for a quick breakfast. It was a nice break! Then we all headed back to the neighborhood for a fun day at the pool. Parker was such a good boy. He really loves the water and warm sun- it puts him right to sleep.
After the day at the pool we headed over to our friend's house for dinner and fireworks. I must say our group of friends are all amazing chefs. We had quite the feast- homemade foccacia bread, ceviche, deep fried turkey, ribs, pulled pork, fresh fruit, pasta salad, eggplant stacks, homemade ice cream and much more. We all ate like kings and queens! After dinner we headed out to the backyard to relax, enjoy the CA like weather, watch the lightning bugs and finally when it was dark enough- the fireworks. We were amazed that the loud booms didn't scare Parker in the least. I think he enjoyed all the bright colors and lights. After the fireworks we put the little guy down in his pack and play. We kept waiting for him to wake up so we could go home but he just kept sleeping and sleeping...in fact we thought he would go the whole night but he finally did wake up after 6 hrs! We are getting closer!!!!
Our Little Trooper
Yesterday afternoon I had to take Parker in for his 2 month check up. Although he is now up to a whopping 10 pounds, 6 oz and 22" long, he is still ranking pretty small considering he had an early start. The doctor is really pleased with all of his progress and hopes we will catch our first "real" smile sometime very soon! His Mommy and Daddy hope so too!
While there Parker has to get 5 different shots but he was such a trooped. The doctor and nurses at Parkside Pediatrics are AMAZING! In less than 10 seconds flat they had given him his shots, gotten his band aids and handed him back to me for comforting. All it took was Mommy's arms and his doggy lovey and he made a hasty recovery! Let's hope he remains strong and brave when he gets old enough to know what he has coming!
Back to the grind!
On Monday I had to go back to work! Luckily this week it is only 1/2 days so I get to pick up Parker around 1:00 PM, which doesn't give me too much time to miss him! He seems to enjoy day care so far. He is going to a little Episcopal Church that is less than 5 minutes from our house. His teachers Miss Izzy and Miss Ann are great and I think Parker already has them wrapped around his little chubby fingers. In fact when I walked in to pick up yesterday Miss Ann had him in her arms and they were rocking away- he looked so peaceful and I know he loved the snuggles and attention. They said he has been eating and sleeping well and doesn't mind the noise (lucky boy!) Next week I am back full time so leaving him each day is going to be much harder. At least we know he is in good hands at Holy Cross Academy!
Parker's First Modeling Shoot
Yesterday we braved JC Penny's for Parker's first professional photo shoot. The first 2 minutes started out rocky but the photographer was great with Parker and captured some pretty darn cute shots. It was hard to pick which ones we liked the best. We can't believe how quickly he is growing and wanted to capture some shots while he still had that "baby" look. Make sure to check out his first "modeling" shots in the album section!
Mathews Visit comes to an end!
Last week my Dad (grandpa) and my brother (Uncle Drew) joined my mom and us for a visit in SC! We had such a nice time visiting Mt. Vintage in Augusta where my folks own land, going out to dinner at our favorite place (Soby's) and even finding time to grill out in the backyard. It was so much fun to see my Dad and brother meet Parker for the first time. Both were "naturals" around him and both had the kanck of calming him down. I affectionally called them both "Baby Whisperers." I enjoyed having all of my family together and I was sad to see them go!!
Check out some of the new photos I posted in the Parker 5-6 weeks Album. My brother took some amazing new shots of Parker- one of which I am going to use on his announcements. He is super talented and I am proud of how great he is doing with his photography!
One Month Check Up
Well we weren't imaging things...our little one is indeed growing like a weed. Yesterday we took Parker in for his one-month check up and he is now a little over 8 pounds and 21 1/2" long. I can't believe he has already changed so much in such a short amount of time. Everything everyone has always said about how quickly children grow is so true. Even now when I look back at photos from his month its hard to believe he was ever such a tiny little p-nut. Before we know it he will be 16 and driving. I am trying my hardest to apppreciate every little stage and every little moment with Parker becuase I know time passes way too quickly!
Guardian Angel
The past few weeks we have been lucky enough to have Parker's "Nana" (my mom) in town to help us out!! From doing laundry, to cooking dinner to helping quiet Parker when he needs comforting she has been a real life saver. I am not looking forward to when she has to go home! Parker already has her wrapped around his little finger and its very cute to see them together. Nana seems to have the magic touch when it comes to calming him down and has given me all kinds of helpful "mommy" hints!
In addition to helping with Parker we have managed to find plenty of time for shopping and doing projects around the house. So far we have recovered the chairs in our dining room, sewed new curtains for the master bath, created a custom headboard for the guestroom and organized the garage for our garage sale this weekend. We even got away for belated Mother's day pedicures yesterday thanks to Daddy who watched Parker for a few hours. Whenever my mom or Patrick asks if I am ready for a nap I can't help but say no because I always have something else on my perpetual "to-do-list" that needs completing. For those of you who know me well you won't be surprised by this at all...ha, ha!
One Month Old!
I can't believe our little mircale arrived a month ago!! Considering that today is also his orginal due date I would say we have come a long way!!! We are having so much fun falling into the role of parents and learning the personality of little Parker. He is still sleeping better during the day than at night but the doctor reassures us that soon he will figure out his days and nights and that should help us get a bit more sleep. We have had many firsts this month including: first real bath, no crying during a diaper change, first "binky", first bottle, first ride in his swing, first visit to downtown Greenville for lunch and a walk across the Liverty Bridge in Falls Park and his first nap in his big crib. Another huge milestone is that we reached 7 pounds! It is amazing how quickly he is growing and changing. He is finally starting to fit in newborn and size 0-3 month clothes so the preemie outfits have been retired until baby #2. Its so much easier to get him ready in the mornings now that we have more clothes to choose from. Next week we have his first month check up. It will be fun to see how much he weighs and how much he has grown in length.
Be sure to check out the latest photo album for new photos of many of these firsts.
Welcome Parker Andrew Halpin
We are so excited to announce that we welcomed Parker Andrew on April 17th at 7:02 PM. He was 5 pounds, 12 ounces and 19" long. We never could have imagined how quickly our little one could steal our hearts. We have been having so much fun getting to know our son and discovering all of the unique little things that make him special. Thanks to all of wonderful "Farm" friends we haven't even had to worry about what to cook for dinner since returning from the hospital. We are so blessed to have such a great support system of friends to expereince this joyous time with. Check back often for updated photos- I will post new ones whenever I can snatch a few minutes of computer time!
Spring has arrived in SC!
Growing up in Southern California we always took for granted that the temperature would be 78, the sun would be shining, the sky would be bright blue and filled with white clouds. If there was even a whisper of possible rain the world literally came to a screeching halt. We never noticed things like budding trees or flowers popping up because "growing" season is 365 days a year in CA. When we moved away from CA I was struck by how something as simple as a change in seasons could make my day. Watching the world literally come to life as the dogwoods bloom and the tulips pop up is nothing short of amazing. Spring has always been my favorite season and now more than ever I look forward to it every year! This spring was been particularly amazing! We've had gorgeous weather ranging from high 50's to high 70's with lots of sunshine. Patrick has been thrilled with so many perfect golf days and has been getting in as many rounds as he can before he officially becomes Daddy! Our landscaping looks great as our new birch trees, hydrangeas, Japanese Maple and dogwoods have bloomed and are even flowering too. We hope Parker arrives before it gets too hot and humid so he can enjoy lounging in the backyard with his new family and Sadie.
