To Bring Us to God

1 Peter 3:18 (New International Version)

18For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit,

What is the ultimate reward for accepting Jesus as your LORD and SAVIOR? Some would say that it is the eternal life that we get. Others would say the better life without sin and suffering. All these are great rewards, but the best reward is God Himself. According to John Piper, enjoying God for eternity will be the best reward we get from being IN CHRIST.

All the other things that God would want us to enjoy for eternity cannot compare to being in the presence of God. This is one reason why Jesus suffered and died for us. God wants a relationship with His creation, with us individually both now and forever.

Think about this: God want us to enjoy Him forever, but we can enjoy Him now too, by living for Him. Eternal life begins when you are still alive. Where would you want to be forever? (Note: FOREVER is a long time?)

Pray: Thank God for His presence in your life. Ask that He will show Himself to others also, that they might be with you for eternity too.

Do this: List some of the things you might be doing forever with God. List some consequences for not enjoying God for eternity.

Another reason why Christ suffered and died...

That We Might Die to Sin

And Live to Righteousness

1 Peter 2:24 (New International Version)

24He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live to righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.

Have you ever thought about what you are living for? The Bible is clear that if we are not living for God, sin is our master. As our master, we are bound to do what sin tells us to do. However, Jesus took us out of that bondage and gave us a new master, God. God is now our master and our king. We are now slaves to righteousness.

According to the Bible, when Jesus died, we died with Him. We also rose with Him from the dead that we might live, not for ourselves, but for God.

Think about this: We do not have to do what sin tells us to do, because we are no longer in bondage. We are now able to do what God tells us to, because He is now our master.

Pray: That you remember who you should be serving everyday. That you might continue living a life that is pleasing to God.

Do this: List the things that you used to do before Christ. List also the things that you do now that you didn't think before that you would ever do. Share the list to your friends and explain the power of God in you.

Christ Suffered and Died...
To Deliver Us from the Present Evil Age

[He] gave Himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father.
Galatians 1:4

It isn't hard to see that we currently live in an evil age or an evil world. When you look around you, you can see people who are dying from more than a natural cause of death like sickness or disease. One can only imagine what it would be like to live in a place where there is no sin or any suffering. There is such a place where God's presence dwells.

However, the world lives under the influence of Satan and his demons. What Christ did on the cross claims victory and one day, those who have received Christ as their Lord and Savior will one day see the world that God intended for His children to live in.

Our hope is to one day see the beauty of what God wanted for His children. As this world passes away and becomes less and less beautiful, remember what you have in Christ already. In eternity, you will enjoy God and His beautiful creation free from any sickness, sin, or corruption (1 Peter 1:4 to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you).

Think about this: This world is not our final resting place. That is why we have such a great hope in Jesus Christ, because for eternity, we will be living in a place where there is no sin or suffering.

Pray: That God will help you live a pure life as you wait for the coming of Jesus Christ. That you do not conform to the teachings and life that this world offers, but the life that God offers in Jesus Christ.

Act: Continue to be Salt and Light in the World by living out the Bible. Continue showing the love of God to others who do not know God.

Week of March 16

Reason #24 from John Piper
Christ Suffered and Died...

To give us confident access to the Holiest Place

Hebrews 10:19 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body...

Back in Moses' time, the people of God were not allowed to enter a tent where God's presence dwell. Only the High Priest was allowed to meet with God and offered sacrifices. Even the Priests were in great danger of being in the presence of God, but God allowed for them to pass through the Holiest Place covered by a curtain.

In Hebrews, we can see that through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we are now allowed to be in the Holiest Place. We can now approach God without a mediator or have someone else go for us. Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice and He did it once and for all.

But also, Hebrews tells us that there can be no forgiveness of sin without the blood of Jesus. To accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior gains us access to the Holiest Place.

Have you accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior? Without Jesus' blood there is no direct access to God's presence. It is only through Him that we can directly speak to God and be in His presence both now and forever.

Think about this: The benefit of having access to God's presence is our prayers. Does God hear or answer our prayers without the sacrifice of Jesus?

Pray: Thank God that you have access through Jesus Christ, and pray that others would know what it means for them to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior

Act
: When you pray, approach God with confidence. List the things that you fear about approaching God. Next to it, put the reasons of HOW Jesus helps you approach God with confidence.

Week of March 23

Christ Suffered and Died...
To show His own love for us.

Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
Ephesians 5:2

A 7 year old little girl was shot by a man 6 times, saving her mom. This was a headline for one the news in a magazine I was reading. I was shocked that the 7 year old risked her life for the sake of her mom's. She did not think twice when she saw that her mom was in danger.

The little girl was motivated by her love for her mom. She did not worry about her own life just to make the gunman stop and shot her instead. The little girl suffers from injuries, but those wounds will forever remind her mom and others of the love she gave that day.

Jesus loved us to give His life for us on the cross. It is rare to know a man or woman to give up their own life as a sacrifice for another's. However, Jesus was obedient to the Father's will and became sin for us and died the death we deserved. He loved us that much.

Think about this: We do not deserve someone dying for us, but Jesus did it for us to show His own love for us. Has anyone ever loved you the same? Would you say that the death of Jesus is very unique?

Pray: Thank God for the biggest sacrifice that Jesus gave on the cross for us. Praise Him for His mercy through the death of Jesus.

Act: List friends who you want to tell this great love to. Tell them of the incredible love they can find in Jesus.

LENT Season

Hello, ALL!

Today marks the 13th day of LENT Season this year. Lent is 40 days of fasting for Christians. This is the time that they would give up things that they enjoy so much and hold off on eating or doing those things. You might be thinking of fasting from meat or your facebook. Either way, food or social network, the whole reason for this is to strengthen your relationship with God. How does that work?

When you give up the things you desire the most, you begin to notice how weak you are. You are now asking yourself, "Where would I get the strength to move on?" Only in God can we find that self-control we need. Also, you will free up a lot of your time from spending on the computer. You can now spend more time with God.

It's not too late to be thinking about these things. As we move from today to the last day of lent, I will post devotions about Christ's Reasons for Dying. If you've never asked those questions or know a lot about it, this is to refresh your mind about the Sacrificial Death of Jesus on the Cross for OUR Sins. The devotions are taken straight from John Piper's book The Passion of Jesus Christ. I suggest you buy the book as a way to understand more of this great love that God has shown to us through Jesus Christ.

Enjoy this lent season by enjoying God Himself in your quite times. May God strengthen you in your walk with Him.

Devotions will start tomorrow.

God Bless,
jb
