Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.

—John 15:18-20

 

 

Have you ever been falsely accused?  Have you ever had a co-worker say something hurtful?  Or what about a spouse has your spouse ever said hurtful things to you? 

You are not alone. 

Jesus was persecuted long before you and I were.  He suffered for us and because of us he suffered.  As Christians we need to remember what our Lord and Savior endured.  We need to understand that God went before us; he experienced all of life’s temptations and hurts, just like we experience them. 

Draw upon our Lord’s strength to get you through the persecution you are suffering.  Bring it before Him and ask Him for guidance and comfort.  He is the one true comfort.  He alone will give you the strength to stay strong and walk through your trial. 

So it’s not a matter of if, but a matter of when.  When will you suffer persecution?  Will you be ready?  Will you be strong enough to work through the issue with God?  Will you remember God’s promises to us? 

Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,

—2 Timothy 3:12

 

For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

—2 Corinthians 12:10 

 

 

It has been a struggle for me lately to just be content with where God has me, or is allowing me to be.  Not having what some would consider the basic necessities of life, like a washer/dryer, a dishwasher, a proper working stove and a bathtub that drains the water from a shower, are just some of the reasons I feel discontent.  But more than that it is missing my family and friends who are more than 400 miles away.  However, I know that this is where I am to be, and I know that this too shall pass. 

Where does God have you right now?  What trial is God allowing you to go through?  Is there a situation that you feel is hopeless with no end in sight? 

What then should you do?

The first thing to do is to TRUST GOD.  Job 11:5-6 says “Oh how I wish that God would speak, that he would open his lips against you and disclose to you the secrets of wisdom for true wisdom has two sides.   Know this:  God has even forgotten some of your sin.”  God’s divine wisdom has two sides to it:  one which man sees, and another known only to God.  Therefore, we must trust Him through it, knowing full well that the Lord knows in His divine wisdom what He is doing.  If we believe that God is a good God, then we have to trust Him.

The second thing to do is to look to what you have to BE THANKFUL for.  Romans 1:21 says “For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.”  The root of ingratitude is pride. Someone who is not thankful thinks they should have had more. They believe they deserve better than they have. Or, they believe that they alone are wholly responsible for all they have.  Conversely, changing our thoughts to look to what we have to be thankful for is going to change our perspective. 

So, instead of thinking about what I don’t have, the comforts of life, I look to what I do have.  I have my husband and two daughters close to me, we are able to save money, enjoy a simple way of life, refocus our priorities and have more time to spend with each other.  Looking to these things changes my perspective on my situation and changes my discontent to thankfulness to contentment. 

Contentment isn’t always easy; God never said it would be easy.  He did however promise to be with us through all of it. 

“Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”  1 Thessalonians 5:15-17

 

My final thought in all of this can be summed up in Ephesians 3:20.

 

"Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, ²¹to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen."  (Ephesians 3:20)

 

The Lord put this on my heart to share.  I hope this encourages you as it does me.  And just to bring this full circle, Elise didn't know what our plans were today.  If she only knew that when her Dad got home I had planned on us having a picnic lunch together in the backyard AND tonight her friends are coming over for a bbq.  :)

Here is my list of my top 15 things to do before I turn 30...a little over one year away!  Here goes...

 

1.  Finish scrapbooking Malorie's first year album...okay I guess I should start that before I can finish it

2.  Take a family vacation to anywhere, just the four of us (going to CA doesn't count)

3.  Get my real estate license

4.  Plant a new tree, flowers and plants in our backyard

5.  Have all my younger sisters over for a sleepover

6.  Spend the weekend away with just Rey...somewhere romantic

7.  Go apple picking

8.  Lead someone/anyone to Christ

9.  Organize our garage...what a never ending project that is

10.  After I get my real estate license...sell or help someone buy a house

11.  Buy a new car...okay well a used car, but it will be new to me

12.  Visit the Grand Canyon with Rey and our girls

13.  Scrapbook all my pictures so I can be current...wish me luck

14.  Make a new friend

15.  Reconnect with an old friend 

Right now God has us in a season of waiting.  In this season we are growing more and more every day.  We are being refined and purified and our perspective is changing.  To God be all the glory!

One night I had a wondrous dream,
One set of footprints there was seen,
The footprints of my precious Lord,
But mine were not along the shore.
But then some strange prints appeared,
And I asked the Lord, "What have we here?"
Those prints are large and round and neat,
"But Lord, they are too big for feet."
"My child," He said in somber tones,
"For miles I carried you along.
I challenged you to walk in faith,
But you refused and made me wait."
"You disobeyed, you would not grow,
The walk of faith, you would not know,
So I got tired, I got fed up,
And there I dropped you on your butt."
"Because in life, there comes a time,
When one must fight, and one must climb,
When one must rise and take a stand,
Or leave their butt prints in the sand."

This week we had two major events take place in the Igliane Family household.  First, Malorie started eating rice cereal.  She didn't seem to like it too much in the beginning, but I think tonight was the first time she actually ate it all and seemed to enjoy it.  And the other big event was Elise had her first day at preschool.  She was so excited to go with her new big girl backpack she picked out.  When I picked her up she had to tell me what they did and who her new friends are.  I am so proud of her.  She is such a well adjusted, independent and happy little girl.  I am honored to be the mother to Malorie and Elise.

Yesterday was Elise's 3rd birthday.  I can't believe she is 3 already.  The time has flown by and I'm amazed at what a smart, inquisitive, caring, sensitive, funny little girl she has become.  She loves going to her dance classes and then coming home and showing me what she has learned.  She loves drinking apple juice and anyone who knows her knows that she can down the entire juice box without even stopping to take a breath.  She is a wonderful big sister too.  She loves Malorie and that is why whenever she can, she gives her a kiss or a quick squeeze on the leg.  I am so excited to watch Elise grow and at the same time, I want time to stand still so I can cherise each and every moment with her.  Happy Birthday Sweet Elise!

Very cool site!  When I watched the video of Elise dancing Ashley started dancing too! ;-)  I didn't know you liked Dave Ramsey.  He's great huh!  He has been working with Melaleuca.  They sell his book for really cheap.

Dearest Father God - I don't have the words right now, but my heart is happy.  I'm listening to some good Christian music, Elise is napping and Malorie is playing on the floor.  I'm so thankful to be in this moment.  We have our house, we have our family, we have our health, we have opportunity, we have friends.  I know that soon we will be in a different season of life and even though this time has its challenges I am still so thankful to be right in this moment.  Lord - you have changed my perspective so much and I'm so thankful.  And I see a change in Rey.  he is happy.  He is seeking you God, and I am praising you for that.  What a beautiful thing.

When God leads you to the edge of the cliff, trust Him fully and let go.  Only 1 of 2 things will happen. Either He'll catch you when you fall, or He'll teach you how to fly! The power of one sentence! God closes doors no man can open & God opens doors no man can close.
