Banana babies - April 18, 2009
one of my banana plants surprised me today with a cluster of baby bananas! The plants are 18 months old, and we dig them up to put in the garage every winter. I'd read online that it's fairly rare for them to fruit, so I had resigned myself to the knowledge that I would probably never know banana bliss. During the winter, I don't really give them much attention. Water them every month and they get some light through the garage door, but I was getting a ball from the garage today and saw the bloom and dozens of little green 3-inch bananas. I was so excited---and yes, I'm a super dork! :)
Bananas - April 25, 2009
4/25/09 - the ever-growing string of banana babies gets to move outside by the pool since the nights are warmer. The red bloom keeps opening up with layer after layer of new tiny baby bananas (the little flowery looking things atop the red petals), so who knows how many there will be before it's finished. Fascinating!

I was in charge of decorating, since I'm the chairperson of the fundraising committee. This was the first time the school had done this fundraiser, and it was a huge success. Raised more than $1,000 for PTO projects!
