Where to start...

Ok...so it's been awhile since I journaled anything so here is a quick run down of the month. My parents were here at the beginning of May for the weekend but couldn't stay long because mom had to be back to finish up the school year. But after showing them our "flip house" in progress, dad decided we could use a little help and we worked it out so he could stay here and help us with the house. So mom drove home alone and my dad stayed. He was a huge help and put in many long hours checking off a number of things on the "to do list". He stayed over a week longer than he originally intended but it worked out good because my father-in-law and brother-in-law were going to MN to do a job for a friend so he just rode back with them.

We hope to have the house on the market in the next few weeks so I will get some "after" pictures up in a week or so. The carpet is getting put in end of this week or beginning of the next and then it will be time to clean it up and pray it sells!!

So the rest of May was filled with programs, picnics, and field days at school, preschool and church. There are some pictures above of the various activities. One new thing this year was Abi participated in the talent show at her school. Her and a few friends did a little skit that had everyone laughing...they did a great job and we were very proud of her!

John's mom arrived on May 30th for a visit. One of the goals of her visit was to help Darren paint some of the rooms in his new house. She stayed with us for the first week and then moved over to Darren's house. We then had John's cousin, Denise, and her three kids from MN, arrive for the weekend. We had a lot of fun hanging out and played in the water a lot. We went over to John's dad's and swam in lake and did some fishing on Sat. morning. Then had Parker's birthday party that afternoon. He had a great time and loves telling everyone that he is "three and not two anymore" :) Check out the pictures... On Sunday, we took the crew to the pool and played some mini golf. It was a fun filled weekend but Denise and her kids had to leave this morning and head home.

So my children spent the day laying around and went to bed early tonight so they could catch up on their sleep for tomorrow our next visitors arrive!! My brothers' family will be arriving sometime tomorrow afternoon and will be staying till the weekend. I will be sure to post more pictures of our fun filled days with cousin William and Eliana!!

Abi's Dance Recital

Sunday, May 3rd was Abi's dance recital. She had been in dance all year...it started shortly after school did. She worked really hard all year, and a few times, wanted to quit, but made it all the way to the end and she did a great job!! Her class had two dances, one tap and one ballet. We didn't get any good pictures besides the ones of her in her costume but we ordered the DVD so we can show the grandparents that weren't able to see it. It worked out really nice because my parents were able to be here for it. Although she seemed to like it and enjoyed performing, she has informed us that she doesn't want to do dance again next year. So that will be it for the recitals for now...

The Royal in Playa del Carmen, Mexico

Well, our vacation is over...we planned it about 6 months ago and it felt like it would never get here and now it's come and gone!!!! We had a great time. We left on Sat. the 18th really early in the morning and were at the beach by 1ish. Our friends, the Stromberg's, arrived at about 4ish so we had a few hours to walk around and get settled before they arrived. We of course have a ton of pics and I have more coming from the Stromberg's camera but I only picked a few for now. The Royal is an adult-only, all-inclusive resort right in Play del Carmen which is an hour south of Cancun. It is beautiful! We did a whole lot of nothing most of the week! :) We left the resort grounds twice, once to walk down 5th Ave to shop, and once to swim with the dolphins. The rest of the time we spent in the pool, on the beach, swimming from poolside chair to hot tub and back :) ...it was rough, let me tell you!! It had been a long time since I had read a book and I finished two!!! We enjoyed dressing up most nights to go out to eat...some of the restruants had dress codes and some didn't but we like getting dressed up regardless. We met some great people from a variety of places. It was very interesting to hear other peoples' stories. I feel like I could tell a story for every picture but that isn't going to happen so enjoy! The one thing I will explain is the picture with John on the bed by the "doll". A couple of days we would come back to our room and there was a "towel sculpture" on the bed. This one was a doll, I think the other one was a swan (I didn't think to take a pic of that one). It was kind of fun. So by the end of the week it was sad to leave but we were both ready to come home and see the kids. That is by far the longest we had been away from them. Everyone survived back home. Joan (John's mom) flew down from MN to stay with the kids for the week and it all went pretty good. We are so grateful that we were able to get away and enjoy ourselves and not have to worry about the kids...thank you, grandma Joanie!!!

A proud moment...

This is just a quick story about one of those moments when your children surprise you about how much they know. I was reading Parker a book before nap today and the last page has a flap that has "me!" written on it. This is a book he and I have read a number of times and he knows that that page says me but he always asks what the exclamation point is so I tell him that is what it is but today he then proceeds to turn the book upsidedown and points to it and says "i"!?!??!? Now he does know some letters, like the letters to the names of his family (M,D,A,F,P,B,H,G...) and I have really only done capital letters with him so where he learned "i", I have no idea!!! But I'm proud of the little smartie none the less!

Happy Birthday, Faith!

Faith's birthday was on the 27th (which was a Friday) and we had her party planned for Sat. We had invited family and a friend of hers was going to join us. We had been planning and getting ready all day when shortly after lunch, Faith says she doesn't feel good so I tell her to go lay down for awhile (the party starts at 2). But when about an hour later, just before 1:30 she comes to me and says "mommy, I really don't feel very good"...I knew something was up. Sure enough her temp was over 101! The first thing that comes to my mind is hurry up and call her friends' mom before they leave to come over!! So to make a long story short, family still came over so she could have cake and open presents but she only lasted about a half an hour and she was back on the couch feeling horrible! By Mon. she was back to her healthy self! What bad timing for a 24 hour bug!!

Happy Birthday, Abi!

Last Tuesday was Abi's birthday so we celebrated that night by letting her choose what she wanted for supper. We had spaghetti, watermelon, and oatmeal raisin cookies (she wanted cake but I told her we would save cake for her party). Then on Friday she had two friends (Regan and Leah) over for a sleepover. Uncle D, grandma Michele, papa Roger, and auntie Hannah came over for pizza, cake and presents. After supper, we all did our nails with pink polish and nail stickers...fun fun! After more playing, the girls got ready for bed and we watched High School Musical 3 (if you haven't seen it, it's great!) The three older ones (Faith went to bed separately) were up giggling and telling stories until almost 11pm, which is waaayyy past my bedtime :) Then they were up before 7 the next morning!!! They all seemed to have a good time so I'd say our first birthday party sleepover was a success!

Now it's on to planning Faith's party this weekend!!

A busy February

It's been awhile since the last update so here is a run down of what we did last month. After getting back from our MN trip we had a few days until John's mom, Joan, arrived for her visit. While she was here, we went rollerskating. Everyone had a lot of fun...even grandma got on some skates!! The best part was that no one broke anything! ...not to say there weren't a few sore muscles and bruises the next day :) She stayed almost a week and we always have a lot of fun when grandma Joanie is here!

Last weekend I went with three friends to Branson, MO to shop at the outlet malls. We left on Friday when all the hubby's got home from work. It was a two hour drive so we didn't arrive till 8:30. So we ate then went to our hotel to rest up for all the shopping we were prepared to do on Sat. Well, in the morning we woke to a layer of snow and it was still snowing. For those who don't know the terrain around here, it isn't exactly flatland. Well, we weren't going to let it dampen our day so we made our way to the outlet mall. We did manage to ignore the weather and shop all day however, when we decided that it was time to head home (about 6:30ish), the roads had gotten bad and even an experience MN driver (that's me) wasn't willing to drive the hilly, curvy roads to get home. So after a few calls to the husbands, we stayed another night at the last hotel before the end of town. The next morning the roads were much better and we arrived home safe with all our bags!

Another big deal in February was pre-registering Faith for Kindergarten! I can't believe she will be going to school in the fall. She is sooooo excited. She goes to preschool three days a week right now and loves it, so I hope that continues in elementary school!!

For those that don't know, we (meaning our business) bought a house to "flip". It finally became ours mid-month and the guys are currently working on it. So far, they have stripped all the popcorn ceilings, ripped out all of the carpet and tile. I'm not sure of the exact time frame but I think they want to have it back on the market in April. An unexpected trip north

On Friday Jan. 30th, John's grandpa passed away. It was not totally unexpected as his health had been deteriorating for some time now. So we packed up and left Sunday for a mini-Minnesota vacation. Because work was slow for John, we were able to stay the whole week. It was very nice to see some family and visit with a few friends while we were there. We also drove around south St. Cloud, where we used to live, to check out all that has changed.

Time always goes by a lot faster than we think when we are there and never get to see everyone we want to visit with. We are very grateful that my parents are willing to let us invade their house for as long as we need to. With three kids and a dog, the noise level tends to be a little louder than when dad (who is retired) is there by himself with his computer and the TV tuned into CNBC! :)

As nice as it is when we are there, we were reminded as to why we tend to only visit in the summer...MN winters are brutal! The only other time I visited in Feb., was in 2006 when my grandpa passed and it was very cold then too!!

Mommy pulled an all-nighter!!

...but not the fun kind of all-nighters, the "comforting puking child, changing sheets, doing laudry, then starting over with the second puking child" kind of all-nighter! ...and I'm kind of tired today :) So Abi had a fever last night before bed so we gave her some Tylenol and tucked her in bed early only to come running to her yelling at about 9:30, she wasn't able to make it out of her bed so needless to say she and her bed were a mess!!! After getting her and her bed cleaned up, we made her a bed on our floor so any more episodes wouldn't wake her sleeping sister. Just as we all fell asleep, I hear Parker yelling for me. I don't get too excited yet because it's not unusual for him to sometimes want me to cover him back up. But as he is holding up his blanket to me, he is saying "poopie" and things are falling from his blanket!! YIKES! So here goes round two, only this time I let John sleep as somehow Parker managed to stay fairly clean so I just needed to change his sheets and get him new blankets. But, unlike Abi who didn't throw up again, Parker continued this three more times, until about 2am. Finally, he falls asleep for the rest of the night. Abi however, starts to get very uncomfortable again at about 3:30. She says her stomach hurts and thinks she might throw up but she is trying really hard not to. Her fever is back and she is now complaining that her neck hurts. I really am ready for the night to be over!!! She manages to keep some meds down and we all get a couple of hours of sleep until our healthy Faithies wakes up at regular time not knowing what was going on around her all night!! Parker wakes up happy and hasn't complained about anything all morning. But Abi is not good, so I make her a dr. apt and we find out she has strep! Poor girl!! So while John had Abi at the dr. (it was very nice that John was able to switch around his schedule so he could help me this morning!) and Faith was at preschool, I cleaned and disinfected like a mad woman!! I haven't done this much laundry in 12 hours before...ever! I can't wait to go to bed tonight!!

SNOW DAY for the Sobiech's!

Abi didn't have school today...they cancelled at 7am, her school starts at 8. Needless to say she was already half ready so she didn't get to sleep in but was excited to stay home. It is still snowing lightly...the kids are enjoying watching it come down. It's not an event that happens often here! Our driveway is a hill so John was nervous about getting up it to go to work but he managed so I guess the roads aren't too slick.

Now what to do with them all day......

Back to school!

Well, it was back to reality today! The girls both had school and they must have been anticipating it because they were both up at 6am! Faithie was so excited and couldn't wait to see her friends and teachers. Abi wasn't quite that excited but still was ready to go back. She wishes she could be in preschool like Faith :) I guess she has to do to much "work" in first grade. So with both the girls gone for the morning, Parker and I spent it painting the stairway walls...mostly just me but he did get his hands in it twice :) I'm trying to get rid of the ugly green I picked when we first built. Last year in the spring, I managed to do the living room but I still have the hallway and one side of the stairway. My goal is to get it done this weekend!

Happy New Year to all our friends and family! I am going to try this website for our family blog because I upload pictures to shutterfly anyway so I think it will be easier to use it and add pictures.

We haven't had plans for New Years eve in many years and this year wasn't going to be any different. However, the day before a friend called and invited us to have supper with them (John was going to be at their house at 5 anyway giving them an estimate) but we decided to have them at our house instead. Then on New Years Eve morning, another friend called and asked what we were doing so we invited them over too! So we ended up with a house full of friends(and the kids' friends, too). It was a great way to end 2008!
