Updates on our baby

6 weeks tomorrow!

Sorry we haven't updated as much. We have been a little busy! Our sweet little Nathan has been home for 2 weeks! Having him home has been a dream come true...He is such a laid back little guy and a snuggler! We have had some visitors, our sisters and my brother FINALLY got to meet them (still waiting on Aunt Jerrica), lots of friends and family. Nathan is doing great, saw the pediatrician who gave him a "looks GREAT" He is on an apnea monitor that has ( thankfully) been un-necessary! He is an awesome eater, and last weighed in at 6lb, 6oz...he is getting too long for his newborn outfits!

Noah has had some awesome milestones! He is a 5 lb 1oz boy! Thank you, Lord. They found a good combination of alternating formula and breast milk. He is too long for his little preemie outfits!  He is on lasix and coreg, and those seem to be making a difference in helping him gain weight and not work as hard.  As you can see from the picture, he had to get another unit of blood ( preemies don't make their own). I hate seeing the little IV in his arm, but he needs it. We can always tell a difference in his energy level after a unit of blood. The cardiologist seems pleased with the progress. We still aren't sure if he will come home first, or go to Egleston for surgery to repair the VSD.

Mike and I are doing ok. The daily back and forth is wearing on us. I think we both feel like the holidays are looming, and it is heartbreaking to think of Noah spending it in a hospital, and not home with us. We know God is in control, and have to cling to His peace and our Hope in Him! It is soooo good to see progress in Noah, for that we are so thankful! Thank you for your prayers! We will try to update more often! Happy Thanksgiving, from all FOUR of us!

3 weeks old today :)

We are having a good week! Noah has kicked his cpap to the curb, and is on a little oxygen via nasal cannula (aka tube in the nose) He had his first bottle, and Mike got to feed him some of it! He has gained weight and is now 3lb 12oz.. He WAS moved to the annex, or the last stop before home, but he decided he wanted to see his favorite nurse, Nadine one more time, and he got put back into intermediate...He is still good! Just needed a little closer monitoring, and we think he will be back in the annex before long. BUT, he may not be next to Nate, b/c Nate should be coming HOME!!! We are thinking maybe Friday or Saturday. Big guy is up to 8 bottles a day, no more tube feeding. If he tolerates them well x2 days, and passes his car seat test, he is a free man :) He is weighing in at 5lb 14oz, 2 ounces short of 6!!!  Note the sweet pictures of Noah's first bottle, lots of sweet Nathan holding time, and, to celebrate Halloween, pictures of them wearing (sort of) My First Halloween bibs ( thanks Kathi)  Please keep the prayers coming!!

Bottles and Birthdays

Another big couple of days! This update is a little overdue, but we were busy..And I turned 30 (ick)! Nathan is now taking a bottle daily!! We have gotten to feed him 3 or 4 times, and he does well!   He still forgets to breathe now and then, but we remind him! He seems so much more laid back and snuggli now, and really alert..Especially right before feeding time..sweet boy!! He also got moved to the 3rd and last stop before home.. I think he will be there another week or so!! I hate that they are separated again.  Hopefully Noah will join him soon. Noah is still doing well. Definately showing his temper lately! He had another Ultrasound of his heart yesterday, and the vsd is unchanged, but still not causing any distress! Thank the Lord. We were a little concerned that he lost back to his birth weight of 3lb 3 oz, BUT they added some calories to his diet and he is up to his biggest weight of 3lb 8oz. Please keep praying for a slow and steady weight gain for both, and for that little hole in Noah's heart to close :) Anything is possible!!! Love to you all! -Lacey

Updates!

Yeay! We have been able to hold them daily, and my Mom ( their Dee Dee) got to hold Noah today..Nathan weighs 5lb 3oz, Noah still hanging around 3lb 7oz... Noah is getting more food, and his IV fluid is going away, YEAY! He is still on the cpap, but they are weaning him slowly. They are trying not to push him too much because of the hole in between the ventricles. As of now, they don't think it is causing a problem, thank you Lord!!!!   Nathan should get to try a bottle tomorrow.. We will keep you posted! Thanks for your continued prayers! They are doing GREAT!

Yeah!

Lacey and Mike,

The tanks look so good! I can't wait to see them! Just know you are in our thoughts and prayers daily!

Holding, take two!

Today, I ( Lacey) got to hold Nathan for the first time. Sweet boy, he did so well. Snuggled right in and didn't make a peep. :) Mike got his chance to hold little Noah..he did better with Mike than with me yesterday, but still took him a minute to settle down :)

Weights and updates :)

So another good few days! Both boys are on tube feedings! Nathan is at the goal rate and tolerating it very well! They did one more ultrasound on his little murmur or PDA and his is still a tiny bit open, but insignificant :) He is weighing in at a whopping 5lb 1oz and looks huge compared to his little NICU buddies! We should be ablet to hold him tomorrow, and we can't wait!

Noah is also doing great, started on tube feeding yesterday, and coming slowly but that is his style! I ( Lacey) got to hold him today, and it was the best feeling EVER.  He got a little mad at being moved, but he snuggled in just fine, and went to sleep. We got to snuggle for almost 30 minutes.  More sweet time tomorrow, and Mike's turn to hold Noah. He is now weighing 3lb 7oz!!! And every little bit helps!

One week birthday!!!

Psalm 28:7  The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am
helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song!!

Our boys are one week old today! And they celebrated with a BANG!!! When we arrived in the NICU today, we realized Noah was off the ventilator!!! YEAY! He is doing well and holding his own on his cpap! Thank you Lord! He has also gained a little weight! I don't have numbers.. but will soon!  They are going to do another Echocardiogram on Noah's heart tomorrow to check the status of his PDA or little murmur. It didn't go away after the medication as we had hoped. He was having some fluid and pressure issues, they were going to try to correct those, and then maybe it will close ...

As for Nathan, he is now on room air!!! They took his cpap away :) His tube feedings are going well and were increased to 16ml every 3 hours!

We got to help Nathan with his little pacifier while he ate via the tube,  and I got to help Noah with his just for fun!

The boys also got visits from Grandpa and Gram Allen and from Mamaw and Papa Grant  yesterday.

One week tomorrow!

Can't believe tomorrow our babies will be one week old!! Nathan has taken some big steps today! He is off the ventilator on a c-pap machine, and today was turned down to an even lower setting. They turned off the photo-therapy, and he gets to eat today!!! Even though its a tiny bit and through a tube, that is a big deal. Noah is still doing well, still on the ventilator. We are still hoping his little PDA or murmur closes. He received the medicine for it, but today it was still open. They are hoping to give him some medication to change the pressure in his heart and lungs and bit, and then, hopefully, it may close :) Every day, we see a little more personality. Both are VERY feisty... they are known for it!!!

Thanks for your prayers, please keep them coming! Lacey

From Aunt Jerrica

Hey you guys!  Hope today is going better.  I was just sitting here thinking of going to Disney with them in a few years.  They might not know it yet, but they have the best Aunt in the world.  :  )  Just thought I would throw that in there.  Love on them for me the next time you guys get to go in and visit with them.  We love y'all and are continuing to keep you and the boys in our prayers.

Update... Sunday :)

" The LORD has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes"  Psalm 118:23

Mike and I are home... goood to be home, much more comfy bed :) It was hard to leave my little boys, but they are in such good hands.

Nathan is doing awesome! He is off the ventilator, on c-pap, and we got amazing time with him this morning. We can't hold him yet, but, this morning, he held both of our fingers in his little hands at once! They had his eye mask ( or shades, as we call them) off, and his cpap... he opened his eyes and looked from Mike to me, one side to the other, back an forth... precious and priceless. Of course, I don't have a stinking picture!  We are hoping he can begin tube feeding in a day or two.

Noah is doing good, as well! He is still on the vent, and getting medicine to close his PDA ( little vessel that didn't close due to prematurity) Hopefully, that will help him get off the tube! The cardiologist expressed a little more concern about his VSD or hole in between his ventricles... he may need surgery sooner than later, and it could prevent him from gaining weight now, BUT it also could close on its own. Though this is a surprise to us, it is NOT a surprise to God, our creator..so we have to hang on to peace that it will all be worked out :) They both respond to our voices, and Noah especially likes to crack his eyes and peak at us.  They are still known for being very "feisty", which is GOOD!

Please continue to pray for them to improve!!!

Thanks and LOVE to you all!
