Thursday April 14 match at Sherwood (Stonebridge) has been cancelled due to the Hooters Tour coming to Albany.
2nd in GISA AAA Region Golf
We shot a team low 329 to finish 2nd in region golf Tournament. Deerfield shot a 308 and Westfield shot 340 to finish 3rd. Sherwood finish 4th 379 and Southland was 5th at 443. We have qualified for the state tournament on May 9 at Jeklyl Island and will have some other matches to keep us sharp. Thomas Buckner and Joseph Spinks both shot 78 and made all-region, and Caroline Griffin 84 and Austin Stripling and Jordan Walker both shot 89. Great job TEAM !!
Great Day at Springhill CC in Tifton
We had a great day of golf at SpringHill CC in Tifton. We shot a 331 to defeat Westfield 356 and Southland 411. We only play 4 golfers and used each score to win the match. Thomas Buckner 80, Joseph Spinks 82, Caroline Griffin 83 and Austin Stripling 86. Jordan Walker won the 5th spot on the team and we are ready for the region tournament in Perry on Monday. It should be a three team race between us, Westfield, and Deerfield.
Trip to Houston Lake
Well our first trip to Westfield's home course of Houston Lakes was a mixed result. We played the course for the first time and we will be better the next time on April 18 for the Region Tournament. It is a beautiful golf course and the weather was great. Next week we have 3 more oppportunities to get better before Region. Monday and Valdosta CC, Tuesday at Springhill and Thursday at Stonebridge.
Match on Tuesday was called due to school being closed because of bad weather.
2nd in 6 team match on Tuesday
Well we shot the same we did on Monday 332, but this time we finished 2nd to Westfield's 325. Caroline Griffin shot a 79 for the second day in a row. We defeated Terrell, Southland, Westwood, and Fullington. We are off until after spring break, but the kids really need to continue to work and their golf game.
Another Big Region Win on Monday!!
Another Big Region Win at the Golf Club of South Georgia vs. Deerfield and Sherwood. We came from behind to defeat the Knights 332-334, Sherwood shot a 393 so we beat both Albany schools. Freshman Caroline Griffin lead the way with a season low 79, Thomas Buckner's 83 and Joseph Spinks and 8th grader Jordan Walker's 85 were the low scores. Great job.
2nd Big Region Win in Americus!!
The Varsity golf team traveled to Americus to take on Southland and Westfield and came home with a win. We shot a season low 330 to defeat Westfield 333 and Southland 401. All the team played well and we are getting ready for another big week at home (Golf Club of South Ga) on Monday and Tuesday.
First AAA Win at Sherwood!!
We got our first AAA win at the Sherwood Tournament at Stonebridge in Albany on Tuesday. The varsity played great, and we shot a 340 to Westfield School 350, and Sherwood Christian 371. Joseph Spinks led the way with a 80, Caroline Griffin and Thomas Buckner shot 85's and Pierce Lovett added a 90 in the big win. The J.V. played great vs. Sherwood, Austin Stripling shot a 42 and Jordan Walker added a 49. Both players will travel with the Varsity on Thursday to the GSW links tournament in Americus. Great job golfers..
1st home match
On Monday, we hosted our first home match at Springhill CC in Tifton. Both the Varsity and JV teams played well finishing 2nd to Brookwood and defeating GA Christian and Windsor. Austin Stripling shot a 45 to lead the JV and Caroline Griffin shot a 40 to lead the Varsity. We will be back in action on Tuesday and Stonebridge CC in Albany.
1st Match at VCC
It was tough conditions, but we played at the Valdosta CC on Thursday. The J.V. played well finishing 2nd to Brookwood, falling by 2 strokes, but defeating Valwood, Cook, and Berrien j.v teams. Jordan Walker was the low man for the jv with a 45. The Varsity had a tough day, finishing 4th, but Freshman Joseph Spinks played well and was the low man with a 44.

Varsity Region 3 AA Runner-up
Well the Varsity Team finished 2nd in the region tournament on Tuesday at the Stonebridge CC. Lead by all-region golfer Thomas Buckner, who shot a (80), the team finished in 2nd place to the defending champs Valwood. We shot a 348 to the Valiants 315, 3rd place was SGA with a 364, Windsor finished 4th with a 375, followed by Sherwood with a 393.
The weather conditions were tough, but the team came through. Freshman Thomas Buckner, Freshman Connor Cross (85), Eighth grader Caroline Griffin (90), and Freshman Pierce Lovett (93) posted scores that put us in the top two. Seniors Austin Anderson, Derick Rutland, and Freshman Edwin Hall also played and added to the team runner-up finish. Good Job.
We will continue to prepare for the state tournament by traveling to Thomasville on Thursday to go head to head with 2 region champions. Region 3 AAA champ Brookwood and Region 3 AA champ Valwood. It will be tough, but it is a great coarse and it will help us get ready for STATE.
We will have a practice next week and travel over to Jekyll Island on Sunday afternoon May 9, and play in the state tournament on May 10 at the Pine Lakes coarse. We will be staying at the Days Inn on Jekyll Island, it is 1 1/2 miles from the Tournament site.
J.V. wins today in the rain
Lead by seventh graders Austin Stripling and Jordan Walker 44's, the j.v. golf team defeated Brookwood School at Spring Hill CC in Tifton, GA today. It was a tough match but our TEAM pull it out to beat the Warriors for the first time this year. It was great to see the improved of our team. Sixth graders Alex, Hank, Matt, Hall, and Wright all improved this year. We had a new player join the team in seventh grader Myles MacDonald and he helped today too. Also our only eighth grader Caroline Griffin was great as our team leader. We do not have a golf match next week due to the Varsity Tournament but I hope the junior varsity will continue to get better. We will have our Tournament on May 13.
The varsity had practice today and I had 2 guest coaches talk golf to our team. Coach Alfred Hiers, former Head Golf Coach at Valwood School and Brookwood School Varsity Coach Dave Hogan had a chat with the team about team play and scoring better. We discussed how can we improved each day. Then we had some play before the rain got too hard. I divided the team up and we played best ball for 7 holes. Good work today. Our region tournament is next Tuesday in Albany.

Well the hay is in the barn, as Coach Barton says. We had a great day of varsity golf at Sunsweet. We hosted the teams from Windsor Academy, Westwood School, and SGA and won big. The Tiftarea TEAM shot a 330 to defeat Windsor 372, SGA 375, and Westwood 455. Freshman Thomas Buckner shot a personal best of (74) and Freshman Conner Cross (82) and Freshman Edwin Hall (86) and Senior Austin Anderson (88) lead us to a great win. We are improving each day and hopefully we are prepared for region next Tuesday in Albany at Stonebridge CC.
The J.V. won again vs. Windsor with a 145 to Windsor's 180. Austin Stripling 46, Jordan Walker 49 and Caroline Griffin 50 lead the charge. We have a big head to head match with AAA Brookwood School on Tuesday at Spring Hill. I think that we are going to have a great day. Go TEAM!!
Thursday at 1st annual Luke Bowers Golf Classic
The varsity Tiftarea golf team won the 1st annual Luke Bowers Golf Classic at the Stonebridge CC in Albany Ga on Thursday. Freshman Edwin Hall continue his good play with a 87 to lead the team. Thomas Buckner, Connor Cross, and eighth grader Caroline Griffin all posted scores in the victory. Tiftarea shot a 374 to finish 1st. Windsor Academy shot a 379, home team Sherwood shot a 389 and SGA 389, and Westwood School 436. We will be back in action on Monday at Sunsweet vs. Windsor, Westwood and SGA. J.V. and Varsity matches.
Monday results vs. Sherwood at Sunsweet
The Varsity played very well defeating Sherwood 333 to 399. Austin Anderson 81, Thomas Buckner 83, Edwin Hall 84 and Connor Cross 85 lead the team. The jv fell to Sherwood 134 to 149. Austin Stripling and Caroline Griffin each shot a 49.
Trip on Monday to Windsor
After getting our team to play on a school holiday and leaving for Macon, we found out that the match with Windsor was off. So we stop by the Golf Club of South GA and played 9 holes. It was a good round for our J.V. team. Seventh graders Austin Stripling, Johnny Croley, and Jordan Walker all had a good round. Caroline Griffin and Pierce Lovett played and it was good practice for them. Match next monday vs. Sherwood j.v/varsity. 2:30
Trip on April 5 to Macon
The trip to Windsor (macon) will be on Monday April 5. We will leave from school at 9:15 a.m. Please bring money for meals. J.V. and Varsity Teams will be going. All Tiftarea golfers can go on this trip since we are out of school.
Tuesday Results at Stonebridge in Albany
Big different in golf today, the weather was great and our golf was at it best of the season. The Varsity won a 3 team match vs. Sherwood (395) Windsor (368) Tiftarea (335) big improvement!!
Senior Austin Anderson (78) and Freshman Thomas Buckner (84) and Freshman Edwin Hall (81) helped lead us to victory. I am very excited about our round of Varsity Golf on Tuesday. The Region 3 AA tournament will be on this course and we should do well in April.
Our J.V. team won vs. Windsor (180) and Sherwood (147) with a (145). Austin Stripling lead us with a great 44 and Caroline Griffin added a 50. Good job TEAM. Also we saw at least 5 gators on the course so it was education field trip too.
Monday Match at Golf Club of South GA
Well, it was a cold afternoon of golf and we did play so great. In Varsity action, we tied Ga Christian for 2nd after beating them by around 9 last week in Valdosta. Valwood shot a 319 and Tiftarea and Ga Christian shot 373. Freshman Thomas Buckner lead us with a nice 84, he played with 2 All-state golfers (David Hobby 71) and (Douling Armstrong 72) and gets better each round he plays. Our J.V. team lost to Brookwood by 1 stroke again, but we had several nice rounds of golf: Jordan Walkers 43, Austin Stripling 45, and Caroline Griffin 50. We will keep working to get better.

Our match verse Windsor on March 29 has been moved to April 5 at Fox Run CC in Macon. Have a great Spring Break Golfers.
Home vs. Windsor and Valwood
Well, the J.V. team came back today with a BIG WIN vs. Windsor and Valwood. Jordan Walker lead the team will a nice 45 and Austin Stripling added a 47 as the Panthers (191) out shot Windsor (250) and the Valiants (259). Nathan Pirkle, Matthew Roberts and Hank McElroy had their best days of the season and Hall Chapman, Bobby Boncimino, Alex McElroy, Austin Enfinger and our two soccer girls Katie Massa and Rachael Childers all added to the TEAM effort.
Varsity wise we finished 2nd (368) to Valwood (316) but beat Windsor (384). We had some sickness and I had to shift the order around, but we have to be ready to tee it up next time. Freshman Conner Cross shot a 86 and Freshman Thomas Buckner add a 89. Others TEAM members today were Edwin Hall, Pierce Lovett, 8th grader Caroline Griffin.
Next Monday we are back at the Golf Club of South GA on Monday hosting Brookwood and Valwood. They are really tough, but we have to continue to get better. Varsity and J.V. teams will be in action at 2:30. We will have our team pictures on Monday. Please bring your pictures forms on Monday. Next Tuesday we will travel to Stonebridge CC in Albany, the site of our region tournament this year. We will go head to head with Sherwood.

In a head to head match verse AAA Brookwood, we lost 340 - 358. But we are improving each day, that was our best score of the young season. 30 strokes better than at Cairo. Senior Austin Anderson and Freshman Thomas Buckner both shot 86's and Conner Cross's 90 and Freshman Edwin Hall 96 (his best of the season) lead the team. In J.V. action we did not have a good day and lost for the first time this year, (by 1 stroke). I did see alot of improvement from several of our young golfers: Alex and Hank McElroy, Matthew Roberts, Nathan Pirkle, and Austin Enfinger.
Trip to VCC
March 10 we traveled to play the AA state runner-up Valwood Valiants. We only played 9 holes but finished 2nd in the tournament. We defeated Class A GA Christian and lost to Valwood. I am very excited that we defeated the Generals of Dasher, they are known as a great golf school. Freshman Pierce Lovett had his best day with a 45 and team members: Thomas Buckner, Austin Anderson, and Conner Cross added to the 2nd place finish. In j.v. news, our team defeated both GA Christian and Valwood. Caroline Griffin, Jordan Walker, Austin Stripling, Nathan Pirkle and 6th grader Hall Chapman lead the team to victory.

Senior Austin Anderson lead the team with a outstanding 78 and Thomas Buckner add a 85, as the Panthers won their 1st match vs. Sherwood Christian of Albany, GA. Due to darkness the scores were pro-rated and Tiftarea shot a 253 to Sherwoods 285. In j.v. action, the Panthers defeated Sherwood 133 to 155. Jordan Walker and Caroline Griffin shot 47's and Austin Stripling added a 49 for the big win.

Thanks to Coach Johnson for taking the Varsity Golf team to Cairo for the Brookwood Tournament. I was in Washington with the 7th grade. Its was our 1st match and we finish in 3rd place with a 388. Freshman Thomas Buckner shot a 87 to lead the team. Eighth grader Caroline Griffin added a 46 to lead the j.v..
