I have a pair of '84 Buick Riviera turbocharged cars for sale. (Click on the "pictures & videos" tab above to see current photos of these vehicles.) Update 8/4/11: See description on Pictures & Videos Tab for update on running status of the convertible.

'84 Riviera Turbo Convertible - metallic red paint, white top, burgundy leather interior
I am the 3rd owner of the turbo convertible, which I bought in 1993. This is the genuine factory ragtop (not an aftermarket chop job)...one of only 47 convertibles manufactured in 1984 that left the factory with a turbo engine. It has the same 3.8 liter Buick turbocharged engine that was used in the Grand Nationals and Regal T-Types from that same year. These cars only came in two color combos: red ext./red int. and white ext./red int., and all came with white tops. The red/red combo was much rarer than the white/red.

I wanted to keep this car stock-appearing, yet take advantage of the "hidden" performance potential of the Buick turbo motor that was being uncovered by the GN hobbyists. So, the following mild "stealth" modifications were made that do not noticeably alter the stock appearance of the car:
- Bosch "237" adjustable fuel pressure regulator
- fuel pump upgrade to a Delco stock pump for an '89 Turbo Trans-Am
- coil pack upgrade to an '87 GN unit
- K & N air filter inside stock housing
- custom 2 1/2" low-restriction exhaust system, including cat and muffler, deleting the stock resonator muffler, but keeping the stock exhaust manifolds
- 3-row radiator (stock was a 2-row)
- PROM chip in computer cloned from an '84 GN
After adding these mods the car was professionally tuned by a Grand National performance expert to maximize horsepower and driveability.

Of course, over the years of ownership there have been lots of other normal wear-and-tear replacement parts put on this engine and car,  but there are too many of those to list here. Parts were GM / Delco brand replacements whenever possible (to keep the factory appearance).

'84 Riviera T-Type Turbo Coupe with factory sunroof - black paint, gray cloth interior
I saved this car from the crusher in 1998, figuring I might need the turbo coupe as a parts car to keep the ragtop operational. My thinking was that in future years parts would simply be unavailable, due to the rarity of these machines. Subsequent research uncovered that the factory only made 1,153 of these turbocharged T-Type Riv coupes in 1984.

The coupe is a solid, complete, restorable car. Only a handful of things were missing from it when I bought it from the junkyard, and I salvaged those missing parts off of other Riv's in the yard, as part of my deal on the purchase. Keep this car as is (as a parts car for the convertible), or restore it and drive it and the matching turbo ragtop to your local car show and watch the jaws drop!

I'm selling both cars as a package deal (no exceptions!). Please don't ask me to separate or part out.

These cars are a restoration project, no question. But, if you were going to put money into a car restoration, it's going to cost the same $$$ to restore a common V-8 Riv ragtop or coupe as it would to restore these rare turbo cars. So, wouldn't it be smarter to put the same restoration money into genuine low-production-number vehicles like these? Which restoration project would be worth more when you're done?

In your years as a car collector, how many opportunities have you come across like this to own such rare machines? Think twice before you pass on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

My asking price for the pair is $10,000, but I'll consider any reasonable offer. The cars are located in the metro Atlanta GA area. I screen all my calls, so begin leaving a message at 678-937-9246 and if I'm home I'll pick up. If I'm not at home, leave your name and number for a return call.
