WHAT DOES THE PTO MEAN TO OUR SCHOOLS?
The Trevor-Wilmot Parent Teacher Organization means a great deal to both of our schools. First, the PTO provides wonderful opportunities for parents to become involved in worthwhile school activities. Just about every study I have ever read on this subject shows that parent involvement in the schools is one of the key factors in creating successful schools.
Second, the PTO provides a wonderful forum for parents, teachers, and administrators to sit down and talk and work together. During our busy school days, it is very difficult to get together, but PTO meetings and PTO-sponsored functions, like the Back to School Celebration, provide times when we can talk about our schools and school programs.
Obviously, PTO has provided financial support for many items including library books and tables, technology, playground equipment, and many, many others. It is not an exaggeration to say that there is almost no area in our schools that has not been improved because of financial support from the PTO.
Finally, the Trevor-Wilmot PTO can be proud of the many good things it does for children - book fairs, Me & My Guy dance, student photographs, and other activities. In many ways, PTO is the “glue” that bonds our parents, teachers and students together and our two schools, as well. I think that “glue” is a good symbol for the PTO because it helps us to stick together. Besides, “E Pluribus Unum” was already taken.
