This year’s Midwest District Youth Retreat was held from 4/27/12-4/29/12 at Camp Manitoqua, in Frankfort, IL. The Lord had His way at this retreat. It was not only a time of great fellowship for the young people, but it was a time of sincere praise and worship. They danced down the aisle, danced around the Chapel, and even participated in the service; ministering to their peers. They were not forced into participating in the service, but they were willing vessels; desiring to worship the Lord, to share their testimony, to sing, read their poems, and to dance. They had the opportunity to worship and praise God their own way. God blessed where we were able to provide our young people with youth workshops, where they were able to engage in interactive sessions of bible study. So often, young people are told to “be quiet, sit down and listen”. Well these workshops not only welcomed probing questions, but they encouraged them. One young man shared that “he had never heard the Word of God broken down where he can understand it, but now he is getting it”. Hearing that young man say this reassured me that we were in God’s Will; that this retreat was of God. Young people felt free to discuss their struggles as a young Christian. I have to say that not only did the Lord move in the lives of the young people, but he replenished us as Youth Leaders as well. To see the love for God in those young people warmed my heart, it gave me replenishment.
I would like to thank each and every adult who assisted in making this Youth Retreat a success. Thank you to our Presiding Elder of the Midwest District- Pastor Jon Sibley, who supported this Retreat and our Youth every step of the way. He always does whatever he can to ensure that our young people’s voices are heard. Thank you Pastor Sibley. Thank you Deacon Donald Rankin, Evangelist Lisa Cato and her husband Deacon Colonel Critter, Christine Brannon, Alisha Dickerson, Devon Eurales, Veronica Bradley, Angela Isaac, Louis Isaac and his Praise Team (Angelyn Isaac, Valerie Isaac, Angela Isaac), Deacon Joe Cole, Nesha Moore, Deacon Ellis (for getting us there safely), and to our National/International Presiding Elder Pastor Barclay for ensuring that we had transportation. Although Nicole Thomas was not able to attend the Retreat, she assisted with the planning, and we would like to thank her for all of her planning, preparation, and ensuring that her youth took part in such a blessed event.
God lit a fire under our young people during this retreat, and now it is our responsibility to assist our young people in keeping that fire lit. We have to support them in their walk in the Lord, and that will first take allowing their voices to be heard. This Retreat was a step in that direction. Let’s not stop there. Let’s continue to allow their love for God to be a factor, to be a BIG DEAL, to matter, to be HEARD; because if it is heard then it can be addressed, if it is addressed then it can be fed, if it is fed then it can grow, and when it grows, we have young person who can now minister and pour the Word into others (PAY IT FORWARD).
Thank you Midwest District for all of your support for this Youth Retreat! See you at Youth Fellowship Day.
On 10/29/12 the UPCAG Midwest District held the 2nd Annual Youth Fellowship Day in Galesburg, IL. It was an awesome event. Once again, the youth had the opportunity to enjoy Christian fellowship. They reconnected with friends they had gained during the 1st Annual Youth Fellowship Day. There were so many games and activities for the youth to enjoy and partake in. Through this fellowship friendships were established and maintained. They are getting to know one another. Their bond and sense of community derives from One common factor, and that is their love for God. We thank Full Gospel Pentecostal Church for their outstanding hospitality this year. We look forward to many more opportunities for our young people to enjoy Christian fellowship.
Tenesha Dixon, UPCAG Midwest District Youth DirectorGreetings All,
On November 11, 2010, the Youth Leaders of the Midwest District held the first-ever Youth Fellowship Day. The day was centered around the youth of the Midwest District having the opportunity to share their ideas and perspectives on how they feel they can contribute, not only to the Midwest District, but to the UPCAG organization as a whole. It also presented an opportunity for them to get to know and fellowship with one another in the name of the Lord. We had an awesome turn out. The youth shared their thoughts on what they would like to see happen in the Council as well as how they can be a blessing to the ministry, and become ports of entry to help reach other youth. They engaged in ice breaker games, fun indoor and outdoor activities, food, and great fellowship with their peers and youth leaders. They all unanimously agreed that they had a great time, and would like to do this more often. Also, it was a great opportunity for us as Youth Leaders of the Midwest District to get to know one another. It was a blessing to see them have such a great interest in the ministry.
It is very important for our youth to feel like a part of their Council. It is also important for them to know that their thoughts, feelings, and ideas are being heard and validated; and, although they know that we cannot incorporate all of their thoughts and ideas, they are happy to know we are listening to them and we hear their concerns.
With that being said, the youth leaders of the Midwest District have agreed to have a bi-annual Youth Fellowship Day. We want to continue to encourage our youth to fellowship with one another in the name of the Lord, and to work collectively toward the mission of the UPCAG.
Thank you,
Tenesha Dixon
Midwest District Youth Leader
