The Vanden Conflict Management Team!!!
Through the Conflict Manager Program at Vanden High, students are referred or they can refer themselves to a team of conflict managers when a dispute arises or has the potential of arising. The students are then taken to a neutral area and they are briefed on the boundaries of the conflict management and the mediation session begins. The mediation sessions usually last approximately 15-25 minutes. These can be conducted during class time, at lunch or after school.
Conflict Management encourages students to resolve their problems with the assistance of a neutral party, but does not allow the student managers to intervene in a physical fight or deal with weapons or illegal substances.
Conflict Managers will not only help their peers to solve their problems, but as they interact with others they will also be learning skills such as: communication skills, active listening and speaking skills, decision making skills and leadership skills. As we all know, these skills can be and will be applied in one way or another for the rest of these student's lives!
The entire staff at Vanden High are very appreciative for the work well done by every one of the students that, of your own free will, participated in the training and gave their best throughout this school year. They have done a great service for their school and for their fellow classmates.

Q & A
Will we have any chances to meet?
Is there another training this year?
There is normally only one training session per year.
If we know or find out about a conflict, who do notify?
Notify any staff member with as much information as you can provide and we will be contacted immediately and will always try to help with the situation.
Can conflict managers set up conflict resolution sessions on their own?
Can a parent or guardian be a part of the session?
It has happened before but only because of a students special needs. We don't encourage this because this program is built on giving students the tools and chances to deal with conflicts without adult intervention.
How do I join, if I missed the training?
Each year there will be announcements instructing any and all interested students on how and where they can obtain all of the materials that need to be signed and returned before you can attend training.
Do the sessions have to be one on one or done as a group, if needed?
Can a parent come to the training?
Sure, they would have to sign in as a visitor as usual! GREAT QUESTION AND IDEA!
Where did the program start?
San Fransisco Ca.
