On Sunday, September 21, 2008, Tony, Nolan (Tony's Dad) and Roger (my Dad) watched the last New York Yankee's game in Yankee Stadium -- IN PERSON. It was a last minute decision to make this event a reality, but I think all of them are glad it was. Nolan had never been to New York City so Dad and Tony took him to see all of the sites including Ground Zero, Battery Park, Wall Street/Financial District, Times Square and Rockafella Plaza. It was a short but fun weekend which each of them will remember forever.
Today, Dad, Jenn, Tony and I participated in the Portland Bridge Pedal along with several thousand other Oregonians. It was the perfect day for a ride . . . dry but not too hot. Although we only did the 6-Bridge, 14-mile "Family Ride", we also rode from home to the start line and from the finish line back to home. This means that overall we rode approx. 27 miles! The bridges we rode across included Hawthorne, Ross Island, Marquam (I-5), Burnside, Broadway and Freemont (I-405). Tony and I also crossed the St. John's Bridge on our way home.
This was Tony's first time participating in the Bridge Pedal. In his younger years, he considered the ride for ametuers only since its definetely a leisure ride and not a race. Now that he's older, he's learned these types of rides can be fun too. Especially when you can stop and check out the view of downtown Portand from the Marquam (I-5) Bridge. Its the best view in the city!
Next year we hope to participate again and would love to put a larger crowd together. Who knows we might even tackle the longer ride which includes the Sellwood Bridge!
After a year long sabatical, we are heading back to work. Carrie will return to the practice of law at Landerholm, Memovich, Lansverk & Whitesides in Vancouver, Washington. She will continue to practice business and corporate law. Her first day is August 11. Tony has decided to remain an independent contractor and has several different contracts lined up. His first day is August 4. Somehow when it rains, it pours. Both of us are thankfull to have found work so easily. But it will take some readjustment. Neither of us are use to getting up before 8:00 am :)
Although we haven't had paying jobs, we've been working on lots of projects . . . mainly house related. We just finished building a fence for the backyard. Its wonderful to have some privacy for all those summer barbeques. Our next project is a kitchen remodel which begins on August 21. Like I said, busy, busy.
When we're not working or involved in projects, we've just been hanging out with friends. This past weekend, we went to the Red Bull Flutag and watched teams launch themselves off a 30 foot deck into the Willametter River. The longest flight was about 60 feet . . . amazing. Next weekend we plan to participate in the Portland Bridge Pedal.
Stay tuned for more updates.
