WVO sytem overhaul

1/8 NPT swivel to -6an 90
This pc was a life saver for the driver side rear connection.

swivel 90 shown in use
Mocking up the feed side hose connections.

It looks tight, but it fits just fine.

FPR, and return solenoid valve
Things are coming together, still more to go.

Close up of the mounting bracket
My engine bay is getting over loaded for sure.

FASS pump install
Getting my position thought out for the WVO pump mounting location.

Starting to look good
AirDog for diesel, FASS for WVO

Factory supplied spacers
These provide clearance for the mounting bolts so they don't hit the filters.

Finished brackets
This is whats left of the factory supplied brackets.

I used carriage bolts instead
Using carriage bolts allowed me to remove some of the factory spacers.

Stacked washers, & factory spacers removed.
I didn't have any methods for cutting the factory spacers accurately, so I cheated.

New AirDog 2 for my diesel side
This will be strictly for diesel, totally isolated from the vo side.

HotFox in the front tank.
This will get reused, but rotated around.

Bed removal
I removed my bed solo, something I don't recommend. I'll be getting help when I put it back on.

The HOH aka--- umbilical cord
This is the removal of the hose bundle from GoldenFuels, something like $10 a ft they sell this for.

Down Pipe Removed
I'm pulling everything in my way, now I have access to the fuel inlet ports on the back of the head.

Gutting the Golden Fuels harness
Out with the old. I'm pulling all the wiring and also the hose wrap assembly.

Engine Valley
There has been a leak of D2 and WVO for quite some time, this polly build up is proof

Racor Removed
I'll be happy to get my bed space back again. I was always afraid of cutting up those hoses with my hauling.

Trusty Racor1000fh
This has served it's purpose well, to bad it wasn't properly installed. I'll save this for a different vehicle.

The filter base.
I can't believe this has been in my fuel bowl since??????

Inside a Fuel Bowl
NEVER NEVER NEVER let D2 and WVO share the fuel bowl.

DSCF7342.JPG
DSCF7342.JPG 2010-03-11

Where did the fuel heater go?
This is what was under the broken filter housing. Wish I could have found this sooner. Well now I know.

Polly from the Valley
This is allot of the goo I pulled up out of the engine valley.

Close up of Filter
I feel like such a dummy for never knowing this was wrong. I'll just blame it on my ignorance of PSD's this is my first one.

Fuel Bowl, see anything wrong?
What your looking at is the bottom of a destroyed fuel filter, this is how the fuel bowl has looked since day one of my ownership. I never new it was wrong.

Fuel Filter O-rings
All these O-rings were removed from the stock fuel bowl. How they got past me and the previous owner I'll never know.
Water Pump Failure

Monday night at Lowes
Not the best place to be changing a water pump.

Carnage
Didn't have a fan clutch tool so I removed half of the engine accessories.

Bearings are toast
My pulley went cockeyed and dug into the pump housing.

inner workings of a failed pump
You can see the fins digging in.

New pump, the next day

Had to pull it so I could do surgery on the pedestal and EBPV

EBPV actuator before removal.
Does it look like it's been leaking to you?

3 cavitys left to deal with.
The professional route would be to weld these closed. But I lack a welder so......

Ugly is to nice of a word for this mess
Wish I had a welder

EBPV gut
I removed the butterfly and shaft, then installed plugs into the left over shaft holes. Much better flow now.

In with the new
Diamond Eye 3"dp 4" straight pipe

Out with the old
14lbs sounds reasonable eh? Wait and see the weight on the new one.

Ambulance Alternator
32 pounds and 10 ounces. That's allot of juice!

Ambulance package upgrade
A picture is worth a thousand words, this is one big Alt. 215 amps

Size comparison
Just doing a test fit.

250 amp fuse, for ambulance alternator
It just about dwarfs the stock alternator.

new vs old
Upgraded charge wire to handle the new Alt. This is a high strand count 2/0 welding cable. The black with red is the stock wire.

Ambulance Alt.
Alternator is in. This has helped allot. I had to many electric loads for the stock alt.

215 amp upgrade
I was able to use the stock belt and needed only longer mounting bolts, 2 ought welding wire, and 250amp fuse.

Found a little brother
Short wheel base F150 that I saw out at Kellers

Racor 1000fh, and aux pump
This filters the WVO in my tank before it hits the trucks fuel system.

My stealth 110v outlet in bed box
I use this outlet for running my electric collection pump, and just about ANYTHING else.

Wagan 5000w 10,000w max
This is allot of power, I plan on future needs. Go big or go home :)

1/0 welding cable used, and two 30amp fuses
To feed the inverter I've got 3 blue top Optimas under it, made for a tight fit.

DIY TYMAR INTAKE
My monster filter upgrade

Truth and younger brother Honor
My 2 oldest boys lending a helping hand. I'll make top notch diesel mechs out of em yet!

DIY TYMAR
Out with the old, in with the new. Much greater filter surface area. This is gunna rock!

Junk for the trash
Stock air box lid about to be butchered!

Chop Shop
I removed the inlet nipple, and will use it with the new filter.

Room for Expansion
Nice roomy location since the stock air box is gone.

Hose from my dust collector
This is NOT PERMANENT! It's the only thing I had laying around at the time. It's a 4" wire reinforced suction hose from my wood shop dust collector.

Homegrown Intake
The real deal, only a few tweaks from perfection. I'll be doing just a few more refinements before this is 100%

Home Built Battery Tray
2 for 1 special, out with the old batt, and in with 2 Optimas. Mild fabrication required

Batteries in!
Finally got em in, it's a tight fit and I had to rework several oem pieces. But it was worth it.

spaghetti wires
These will obviously get cleaned up, rerouted, shortened.... FIXED
Melling 55hv pump mod

Secret mod revealed
Now we're getting high tech. I would have liked a gauge that read pressure, and vacuum, for when I run in reverse.

Internal clearance
Once complete, the fittings will be ground flush with the inside walls of the pump.

Looking like a real WVO pump
Almost there, little more work and we'll be good to go.

Removed the ear
Chopped off the mounting ear with a hacksaw.

Possible motor option
1hp 3450rpm table saw motor, should I use it?

SBC oil pump
Holes in the body will be enlarged further to accept 3/8 pipe fittings.

M55hv
Partially complete pump mod.
Small time Oil collecting.

Pick up from a regular supplier
Got all 5 of these from the same place, those two on the far left looked so good I wanted to just dump them into my truck.

Pick up at the local Mall
Mine versus theirs. Most of the pumps on their roll-arounds are inop. My buckets make it fast and clean.

Serious business
This is for the big sites. I can suck up 100gal in about 8min.

Oil Stickers
All the local rubberneckers love staring at this thing in traffic.

Heart of the collection skid
3/4 hp swimming pool pump using 1" ID lines. Doing the initial prime is the only down side, otherwise this thing SUCKS!
Oil processing

Mobile Fuel Depot
23' of hose, plus wheels. I can fill up any where within 150' of my garage door.

130 degree farenheight abient air in the bowl
This is normal, I'd like to get it higher but I'm happy with this so far.

The back bone of the beast
This is my Frankenstein. This is the drum that gets the dirty oil, I screen it down to 400 microns prior to dumping it i

The 2 drum system sits on a rolling cart.
I put this on wheels because I never know when I'll need more space in any given area. My garage is also my wood shop.

Settling station
Partially finished, upper plumbing needs completed.

Heating element, drum ONE
220v element pulling 5500 watts, 1-1/2" sediment drain on the bottom.

Finished plumbing results
Upper plumbing finished, tie down strap holding thermostat while epoxy cures.

Buckets will soon house strainers
I might be able to de water by heated circulation.

Swimming pool pump, 3/4hp
1-1/2" suction lines from all drums, 1" pressure line to all drums.

Racor 1000fh, and aux pump
This filters the WVO in my tank before it hits the trucks fuel system.I've got a heater wrap under that black insulation.
Fuel system updates
The new FASS pump is fully installed, but not yet wired in. The new AirDog2 is partially installed. The coolant loop is fully installed and functional with the exception of wiring in the aux coolant pump. I still need to finish up the fuel lines in the engine bay. There were a few fittings that needed to be ordered. The fuel pressure regulator has been mounted and partially plumbed. This whole process has been taking much longer than anticipated, but no worries. I'm making progress every day.
Total fuel system overhaul.
Well it has finally come to pass. My truck started chugging and sputtering and then developed a really nasty fuel leak. It looked like a miniature Niagara Falls coming off the back of my engine.
The poor quality installation of the previous WVO setup has wrecked havoc on my truck. I saw this failure coming and new that it was only a matter of time.
Well the time is now.
My truck has currently been spending the last week in my driveway all torn to pieces. I am in the process of eliminating every part that the previous owner installed, and also pulling 90% of the original Ford installed fuel system. There will soon be a photo album that documents this change as well.
Setling station fully operational
Well I've run about 300 gallons through the settling drums and things worked beautifully. I've added a roof to the platform which it desperately needed. There is no permanent 220v line run to the station nor will there be. I've found it easiest to use my 220v extension cord that was made for my dust collector and just pull it out there as needed.
Settling Station up and running...
Well it's sort of up and running.
I've got all the plumbing plumbed, and the electrical is next on the list. I finished the plumbing tonight and ran some WVO through just to check the flow. Everything went off with out a hitch. Praise the Lord! My only complaint with the pump and plumbing..... I think my GPM is WAY to high. I had planed on pumping out of the 1st drum and then through a 200 or 600 micron strainer that will be in the 5gal buckets on top of the drums. Well with such a high flow through my system I think I'll be over feeding those strainers. Looks like I won't be able to open the valves all the way. And tonight's flow test was done in 40 odd degree weather. I'll really be flowing when I'm pumping warm WVO.
I was able to epoxy my thermostat onto the drum also tonight, however I don't yet have 220v run out to my settling station. I'll be running the wiring tomorrow. For tonight's testing I have my 5500w heating element hooked to a 110v extension cord, and am not using the thermostat. I need to let the epoxy set up over night just to avoid any problems with the epoxy not holding.
This is exciting stuff, least for me.
3 Drum Settling Station
Work has begun on an elaborate settling station for my waste veggie oil. I have come to the conclusion that the oil needs a longer settling time before being processed in the centrifuge. My "clean" oil has not been proven to be as clean as I would like it to be. I pulled a sample from my filtered VO and let it settle for about a month and a half. Nothing settled out after 3 wks so I thought I was good to go, well I placed the sample on a shelf and forgot about it. A month and a half rolls by and I spot the sample jar and am amazed to see an inch of (water?) at the base of my mason jar. Bummer! So in comes my current project...... the ultimate settling station.
Three 55 gal drums on a platform 3' high. Under the platform you will find 1-1/2" pvc plumbing from all 3 drums running into a valved manifold and then into a transfer pump. From the transfer pump, 1" plumbing directs the WVO into the tops of the 3 drums, or through a hose and out to my centrifuge feed barrel. The first drum in the series of 3 is a heated drum, this is the drum that I pour my freshly collected WVO into. There is a sediment drain on all 3 drums, after I heat drum number one I will let the oil settle for at least a week then drain the sediment/water & transfer the oil into one of the 2 remaining drums. The oil will continue to settle in the other 2 drums until it gets transferred to the centrifuge barrel for filtering.
Pictures will be coming soon
