The Fenske 8
John Peter Fenske
Okay... So Grace's surgery was a sucess!!! Although the recovery was harder than expected... she is doing just fine now! I found out I was pregnate the week before her surgery... that made the hospital great fun w/ all the medical sights and smells! LOL!
I am now due Sept. 3rd... but due to my blood pressures it will be great if I make it to 38 weeks. That puts my delivery around Aug. 20th! For all those keeping track... That is Baby # 8 in a month w/o anyother family bdays! YEAH! And.... IT's A BOY!!!!! The first boy after 6 girls... Josh (our first born, and only boy) is Over the Moon! As are the girls myself and most especially Pete!
WE have been keeping very busy... if it weren't for summer vacation I would still be homeschooling providing me w/ little time to man the site!
I pray all are well and Thank you to all of you who have inquired about our family over the last few months. I will try to keep you all in the loop more frequently!
God's Blessings to All!
Danielle
Alright, you know how I was relieved that Dec. was over so that things could slow down?... Who was I kidding! On new years day our family van broke down! God bless FORDS. I really wish Toyota would make a 15 passanger! It was the second time in 6 months the alternator has been the culprit! But we have it back now and all will slow down.. right? WRONG!I looked at our schooling stuff and realized that half of Nov and most of Dec were a bust... we are behind. YUGH! So I kicked it in gear and we have been working VERY hard at getting all caught up. Faith completed 17 pages of math a day for 5 days to get all caught up. The others did a few less than that but still that is huge!
We are so glad that Grace's surgery date (that has been postponed in the past) is finally a week away! Yeah, but wait what is that she wakes up with? A GROSS Cough! UGH! We went to her doctor this morning (yes it's that bad) Bronchites (s/p?) She was given 2 breathing treatments, then a steroid (prednisone) and a fast acting antibotic. Here's to hoping we are given the green light at her follow up on Fri. Pete aiready has the time off work...again. So everyone keep your fingers crossed for us! They can't intabate if she has a chest infection. The next available surgery date is now in March if we get bumped. I just want it all done with!
Maybe then it will slow down... HA! Wishful thinking!
Thanks be to God December is almost over! Don't get me wrong it is a beautiful season, But... We have 3 birthdays and Christmas, and it gets pretty dramatic! Josh was the altar server for the children's Christmas mass and Faith and Kaylene (whose birthday it was) sang at the Christmas eve Childrens mass choir. It was so cute, some of the little ones couldn't read and were close to the mic...it was very sweet!~We have all survived and it was a sucess. My oldest Josh awoke about 1:30 luckily my husband intercepted him in his excitment and hopes that Santa had come... I ran upstairs and told him Santa couldn't come because I was still doing dishes... little fib yes! I convinced him to go to bed and made a deal that he could get up at 5am. We went to bed at 1:45. We were having a huge snow and wind storm and our neighbors have a wind chime... He got up at 2:30. He says he heard Santa's bells... Thump, thump, thump down the stairs... and thump thump thump back up. Girls room door slams open, girls screach in excitement and thump thump thump down the stairs. Next the ripping of paper and the dumping of stockings. By then forget it the whole house was lit and in a furried pace of exciting upheaval! We were tired! We have all survived and it was a sucess.
This next month we continue physical therapy for Grace. Her surgery was reschedualed for Jan. 19th due to a Dr. conflict with the hospital. She should only be in the hospital for a minimum of 2 days and max of 6. Whatever it takes to repair her kidney reflux the better. She will continue PT after surgery as to not "blow out" the surgical repair.
Other than that not much going on, We can't wait to get into this new year . We have been so blessed to have such GREAT and supportive friends and family. Everyday I count my blessings and then send 7 of them to bed! I love the time spent with them... but I LOVE the quiet time when there in bed!
Hi All!
I hope your Thanksgivings were as fun and filled with GREAT times with family as was ours! This month started with us announcing the expected arrival of our eighth baby. We were all so extreemly pleased with the news! Unfortunatly God's plans were not quite what we had expected. I miscarried at 10 weeks. Thanks to the support of our great friends, neighbors and family, we are all now doing well and on the mend!
November ended in the perfect fashion!
We traveled to our hometown in Oxnard California. That big 'ol dose of family fun and sun is exactly what we needed. We spent 9 days with all the people we care about most in life... with ehe exception of some of our family and friends who weren't able to make it.
We had the annual Grimm/ Mcfarland campout always a Blast! Also the annual Fenske family children's christmas pagent. This year was halarious!
Gina Scott and my little Joy were angels and fought over the baby Jesus doll! The wise men in the background almost died with laughter as did the spectators! Thanks to aunt Helen the girls were seperated before anyone was hurt.
Gina won the baby but watch out we are conditioning Joy for the rematch next year!
We want to thank everyone for their kind thoughts words and prayers. They really did make the difference.
We are now back home and preparing for 3 of the girls birthdays (12th, 19th, 24th) Yipes!![]()
Also on Sat we have the Middleton Christmas Parade. Josh will be Joesph, Faith- mary, Grace, Kaylene, Eileen will be angels all on the float. Serena a nd Joy get to sit this one out! On Sun. is our church's annual children's Christmas Play... we are in that one too. After that bring on preparing for the BIG DAY!![]()
OH yeah! Grace finally has her big and long awaited urology appt. today Dec. 4th! Keep your fingers crossed!
God's Blessings to all for a wonder filled and beautiful Christmas Season!
Danielle
Thanksgiving is just around the corner! I love, love love Thanksgiving! We take our annual trip back home to see all of our family in Ca. (well almost all of them... with 4 other siblings and their families on my side and Pete's 8 other siblings, sometimes someone can't make it) We are all bouncing around and Faith is running the daily count down till we leave on the night of the 20th. We always travel striaght thru the night, The idea is that the kids will sleep as we gain headway! Only difference this time around is by the time we leave I will be 3 mos. along and usually that means queasy.
Oh yeah! that leads me into the news... I'm pregnate...# 8 it sure is great!
I'm sure that anybody who knows us is not too shocked... I wasn't! The kids are praying overtime for a boy... even the girls! I am due June 22nd but usually that means a week or two early in my case.
But even better news than that, my neice Gina Scott that many of you have been praying for just recieved some Great news! She will be entering the final 18month phase called the matinence phase in her leukimia treatment! We are thrilled, she at one year of age has more strength in her little body than I could ever hope to posess in my big toe! Tonight, I go to bed feeling so blessed to know that God does answer prayer, and that although we may not always understand why? God has bestowed upon us all the grace to look toward Him and trust that any challenge put in our paths, can be won and the courage and faith that is shown during these times is a testament to those looking on.
God's Blessings everyone!
Danielle
I needed to help the kids with their studies, so I simply asked Eileen and Serena to play quietly upstairs."What should we play" I said "anything except beauty shop and stay out of mommy's room" (Eileen had been caught 2 days earlier giving all her stuffed toys haircuts while playing "beauty shop") I finished English grammer w/ Grace and Kaylene, and realized it seemed to quiet ( When the little ones play quietly there is still alot of muffeled roars!). I went investigating... I open the bedroom door and they are sitting in their closet laughing. Not unusual so I peek in and what do my wondering eyes... hair cutting!
They are sitting their each with hyjacked sicissors... cutting little curls ans sections of hair bangs too! Eileen sits up knowing she is not allowed to play w/ sicissors, says " but mom I didn't cut her hair!" She adds "I told her it doesn't hurt to get haircuts"
Serena is laughing and adds "Hey mommy it didn't hurtted". Now, we were carving pumpkins that evening w/ photo opps of course so, I gave them bobs and shorter thicker bands to hide the missing clumpage. Serena was so proud, looks in the miror and says
"see mommy, it's ok, look at how pretty I cut my hair"!
Wrong Message...
Oh Well. Until later, God's Blessing.
Danielle
Hi everyone!
Funny little story coming your way.![]()
So, in the past year or so Serena is going through the "put things up your nose stage". We have removed her chewable allergy meds, and a coco puff, a kix (she seems partial to cereal, it always expands and gets gooey Yuck!) anything around that size is nose worthy. Pete luckily has a very steady hand and I can hold a screaming child still pretty efficently (a talent I have aquired over the years... Handy!) It is always quite a scene... all other kids gather around to ooh and ahh, a flash light holder and we're set.![]()
About a month ago Serena once again stuck something up her nose. We all began the extraction ritual, but it looked like paper and because she had fell earlier that day (busting her lip open) we decided there was no harm in waiting to see if it came out on its own or disolved or whatever.
Fast forward 1 month, that is how long her lip took to heal (she also is a fan of scab picking) that little piece of paper or plastic is still there! She begins picking her other nostil until raw and bloody (it was a weekend... dr.'s closed..) . First thing Monday morning we call and are seen. What a production. Imagine this, I am laying on top of Serena on the exam table to hold her still, a nurse has the light, and the dr. has a pair of tweezers (that look like extra long scisors from a operation room or something, Scary!) all the other children are in the room in chaos! What is it ... what could it be... after 3 attempts out it comes... A SCREW! ![]()
If that wasn't funny enough, we are all screaming and cheering. The nurse goes out to announce "IT'S A SCREW" to all the other Doctors, nurses and curious on lookers (yes, Serena screamed that loud, poor kids in the waiting room must have been terrified). Then Serena pipes up "HEY!, I LIKED THAT IN THERE!" God Bless 2 year olds! Maybe she will stop snoring now that the screw is gone.... well, until next time!
Serena now adds that the doctor is "tupid" (for taking her screw) but nice because she traded for a lollipop and carebear sticker.
Bye,
Danielle
So it finally happened!
Our freaky, terrible neighbor next door was kicked out by her... ex-boyfriend. The cops came one Sat... then again the Following Wed. and as luck would have it the next Sat. a moving van came!
YEAH! For those who know the story, it was her brother that was going to come here to move in w/ her and her children fresh out of a 10 year stint in a Ca. prision
. Now we have regained a whole lot of peace... well, of mind at least!
Grace saw her urologist... he wants to continue w/ 3 more mos. p.t. and then he said he is confident to do some kind of med. intervention. Long story short he may decide to have her recieve a series of injections rather than surgery. I need to read up on the difference in sucess rates for one -vs- the other. From my understanding injections lessen the reflux to maybe a 1... she is currently a 3. That could still result in kidney infections... but not as frequently... that's the theory. Surgery would "fix" the problem w/ a 98% sucess rate, but she has to have a pretty involved procedure followed by a 4 to 5 night hospital stay. He seems to be leaning toward injections... I still have not weighed in.
In other news Josh is an altar server now! So exciting! And all Fenske's on this end are healthy! Joy is cutting molars but that's just normal stuff! We can't wait to see all of our family this Thanksgiving!
God's Blessings to you all
Bye for now.
Danielle
Hi All!
So we were at a great pace easing back into school.... Then it happened...
I caught the flu! It is never good when mom gets sick. For a whole week I laid on the couch running a fever and all achy YUCK! When it was finally over what a relief... I could get right back to normal right?
Nope Faith gets sick... and Josh got some weird infection causing his whole thumb form tip to joint at the base by his plam to turn greenish purple. He had shooting pains into his armpit and pus. It's okay, nothing a great strong antibiotic couldn't cure! I love medicine! Eileen and Joy are begining their turn at this illness. Did I mention that Serena split her mouth open?
No biggie if she would stop picking the scab off daily... God Bless 2 year olds!
In other news we are in the middle of a fireplace make over... Chardonay Alpine ledgestone!
We began that the day I got sick (I came ill that evening). We are so excited, it will look great! Thanks be to God, Pete is so handy. I help when I can... I used to really get involved in projects, but in the past 4 years or so (when Eileen was born) I mostly get to help by keeping the little ones at bay. Maybe we will take a nice family pic in front of the new fireplce this year for Christmas! Pete used to say "lets wait to take a family pic until we are done having kids" Last year I think he finally came to terms that, that could be a long wait. Still, no news on that front to speak of... I KNOW!
That seems to be the end of the last few weeks... well not including the van being in the shop, But thank goodness I had it for the doctors. Grace is well. She is still going to therapy, and making progress! Urology appt. is on 9/22.
PLEASE KEEP GINA SCOTT and all children battling disease in your prayers and their families too! It is one thing for a person of relatively good health to fall ill from time to time.... It is just a mere nuicence, but for those with compromised immune systems... Well, they need our prayers and great support!
God's Blessings to all,
Danielle
School is upon us... Thank God we don't have to get anyone out the door! Seriously, I have no idea how all of these wonderful mothers get everyone dressed, fed and out the door on time!
I can't imagine the organization it would take for me to get 6 girls heads of hair done "right" (they each have their own opinions and styles) and clothes the way I like them... and matching shoes to boot? Nope we homeschool... I still require them to be dressed, fed and beds made by the start time of 8:30... still it is a far cry from being at school. Kudos to all those who do all of the seemingly impossible. Lucky for me Joshua is easy as pie... he is always ready to go... don't get me wrong he doesn't always like it (especially if it requires creative writting) but he is always punctual.
So Joy has said her first word...
well, besides "mama" and "dada".... we don't count those. So what was it?... How exciting... she walks right up to Pete and I points down, grabs and tugs and says...... "DIAPER"!
That's it the grand first audible word... diaper? We all cracked up... all the kids kept repeating it and so she of course keeps repeating it "diaper, diaper, diaper" ..oh brother. She then ran to the closet where the diapers are kept and one by one brought us all of the diapers. As we began to send them back to the cabinet she yells "STOP!"
I don't know what she was saying after that, but make no mistake, she didn't want anyone touching her diapers!
In other news Grace's Physical therapy is going Great! We went to her second long awaited urology appt. on Friday.... We go to check in and the receptionist says her doctor isn't in today! How can that be we are schedualled for 1:15 on the 22nd... turns out it is Sept. 22nd. The office lady tells me "you need to learn the numers of the month" The nerve!
I pulled out my appt. card that she wrote on... guess what it said 8/22! I very politely told her we would be covering the months and days of the week the first month of homeschooling and she is more than welcome to sit in. Good thing she had a sense of humor we all laughed it off.
So that report is still a month in the making.
We are all excited because it looks as if we will make it to Ca. for Thanksgiving this year.
It will be a shorter ( total 9 day journey instead of the normal 14- 16 days) but it looks as if Pete will have one week off work. That means 1.5 days on each end for drive time, the split day for Thanksgiving (half day with each family) and 2 additional days each. It is going to take one great schedual to get to see all of our friends and families.
Friends... hopefully you won't mind treking out to the campsite to visit with us there!
I want to remind everyone to keep little Gina Scott (our neice) in your prayers while she is still battling leukimia. All of your prayers really do make a difference!
Love to all and God's Blessings, Danielle
So, Josh is officially a Decade... Yes two whole hands! ![]()
While we are always happy when July is over (3 birthdays...yikes!) That means cirriculum shopping!
Anyone who knows me, knows how I dread any shopping... for me that is more stressful than 7 kids....and all that drama! Still it needs to begin!
Parents are all counting down the days... you would think it is Christmas for a 6 year old! They all get to regain some serenity. I am like all the children around town ,
dragging their feet oh dread, back to school? Who me? Already? Well, I guess that keeps me young...
Right?! That wasn't very convincing... well, who am I kidding, I'm getting old....er.
This year Josh will be in 5th, Faith in 3rd., Grace & Kaylene we will combine in 1st, Eileen ..... hmmm... she will do some K and preschool stuff (easy!) With special emphasis on manners and indoor outdoor voices! I tell you Eileen and Serena are going to give me a run for my money! Joy will just continue learning from "mommy Serena"
how to get into everything she shouldn't!
Serena's favorite past time is opening the fridge for Joy... and encouraging her to take everything out!
She also has Joy stand right next to her as she climbs up the pantry shelves 8ft. tall because at the top are the snacks! Well, if she is caught... she says "Joy wanted this!" God Bless 'em.
Grace is going to Physical Therapy on a weekly basis, to shrink her bladder back to a more appropriate size(currently it is 2.5 times larger than normal). The size is a problem because she seemingly has diminished sensation as when to empty (she may be given a alarm). This will hopefully work so that she can regain full sensation, resulting in less stomach discomfort, and enabling the urologist to perform the urter repair surgery.
We do realize how blessed we are though! Grace's problem is minor in comparison to other's more serious medical problems. Nobody likes to see there child in pain Her problem is uncomfortable and inconvient but in no way is it life threatening! We have hope this issue will be resolved within this year.
We thank God everyday for the numerous blessings He has bestowed upon us.... most especially our families and friends!
Bye~ Danielle
So, Joy is one.
Eileen is four... keep praying... she is appearing a bit less spastic!
Just Josh to go! turning 10.. a whole decade! Where does time go?
The B-days have been great...
Joy blew out her candle and then promptly grabbed it! There was still an ember glowing... she burned two fingers!... don't worry though... in true Fenske fashion she cooled her burnt fingers in her ice cream and kept right on eating with the other hand! That's our girl!
Eileen's Birthday... "Dora Day"... as upseting as it was to all of the older Fenske children ( Josh, Faith, Grace & Kaylene) Her day was all things Dora!
From cake to decorations to gifts even wrapping paper... Yup! She LOVES Dora! The older ones seem a bit tramatized (wait until they have o sit through Serena's "Barney party" this Dec. They just may revolt!)
Josh is going to equally annoy his little sisters (except Grace) with all things "Pokemon" party! That should be a challenging cake to make!
I can't believe this summer is almost over ... and back to school....Aug.25th. We are gearing up for another fun filled homeschooled year!
Grace is better... seeing a physcial therapist... then within the next 5mos to a year she will have surgery to replace/ repair her urters.
God's Blessings to you all!
Thanks to all of you who have added Gina Scott to your prayers... keep praying... they need all the extra prayers they can get!
I just read your journal update....after reading I though does it ever slow down with kids running around. I have only 1 and he is 2 and jeepers i and constantly on my toes.....so good luck with that hope it slows down bit...LOL. Thanks for stopping by and visiting my site. Hope to see yeah around and I truely do hope things settle in for you in the new year. Take care and have a good week.

Hey Danielle,
Thanks for the comment on my site - I'm trying to catch up. Hope all goes well with Gracie's suregery. Sorry to hear she got a bad cough. Hope it doesn't get bumped up. Thanks for telling me how to do the filmstrip. I need to take some time and revamp my site.
Take care and keep in touch.
Hi, thought I'd stop by. I love your header picture, too fun :) Hope all is well. I really enjoy visiting.
Lisa :)
I came upon your site and thought I would stop by to say hello. I must say I agree with Joey, that must be some chore in itself to get them to sit still enought:-) Hope your holidays were enjoyable

Danielle,
Thanks for the nice comment on my site. It means a lot. I love the header with all your kids in their jammies. It amazes me how you always get good pictures of ALL your kids. Really quite impressive. I hope the holiday books you gave were a hit. All my best to you and yours in 2009!!
Congrats!! How wonderful for you and your family :)
Blessings to the little Gina, I will definitely add her to my prayers tonight. May the good news continue for her.
Love your pictures and your site, your kiddos are beautiful!
Danielle,
Wow, you have been busy! I so LOVE the pumpkin photos. How fun is that. I wish i could get cool photos like that. Love your park pictures too. The story about haircutting is too funny for words. Its true when the kids are quiet they usually are up to mischief!!
Thanks for the sweet comments on my site too. We had a ball in the leaves -auntie too! lol!! Now its just plain dreary out, so no more autumn pics, unless we have nice days in November.
Have a great weekend and keep up the great work. Joey :)
Just popped in and WOW you guys have been busy ~ LOVE the pumpkins! And your park pics are so wonderful. I love how you always have one with all the kids, they will love that later on : )
I also wanted to say thanks for the kind comments on my Pasha's Story book. What is incredible is what you said, my husband and I neither wanted to 'have' kids and both had said growing up we would adopt...fast forward 20 years and voila. I said God had planted a seed and placed us all together. I just love what you have done with your site too!
Hey Danielle,
I'm glad you got the photobooks bigger. Looks GREAT. How did you get the smaller versions on your home page without using widgets? I'm sorry I should have told you about them prior. But looks like you figured it out. Have a great day. Joey
Hi Danielle,
I just saw your comment on my site. I see you added a new page for your story books - do you have an icon on top that says 'custumize'? (sp??) You should have that and click on that and it will say 'change page layout', then click on the first layout in the 2nd row. Then you should be able to add your books as widgets like you did the smaller versions...Let me know if this helped. I'll check back later. Joey
Hey Danielle,
I've been meaning to check your site for a few weeks now - but haven't had the chance. Loved the screw story. That 'tupid' doctor!!! How cute but what an ordeal - never know what kids will put up noses!! Thank you so much for your kind comments on my books and site. i had those older photos on my computer, so that was easy. I'm working on a HUGE scanning project for a book for a family friend - i just can't get into it. i have done a lot though. I just do a little here and there to make time.
On to your questions: to make your photobooks bigger I would suggest creating a new page at the top - like i did on mine. Once you've done that, click on custumize at the top and it will say 'change layout'. You want the first one in the second row. Then add your books like you did before - i like the small ones too.
It looks like you don't have your members list showing??
Let me know if you have more questions or if you were able to get your photobooks bigger.
keep in touch,
joey
Hi, I saw your site address on your profile and thought I'd stop by. Your kids are adorable and I love their names too. I love your pictures, they are bursting with life and color. That's so great to see.
I have to say that we never had the screw up the nose event but we did have the axe to the eye event. I can laugh now (15 years later). I have two sons and a granddaughter, more than I can manage at times. You make it look easy.
Thanks for allowing me into the wonder of your world. Lisa :)
I thought I'd pop in and say hi. Love your family picture in the header. How's school going in the busy Fenske household??
i'll check back soon. takecare and keep up the great work,
Joey
Thank you for the wonderful comments you left on my Father's Day book. You are so kind. I love your site, and you children are so adorable. I am so impressed you home school all of you children, that is dedication plus and 7 WOW. Anyway, thanks for leaving me you website address. You have a very cool site with some awesome photographs.
Hi Danielle,
I noticed you left a comment on my share site. Thanks for taking a peek. It's really blah and I haven't been giving it much attention. What did you mean about site hopping? Some people put their share site addresses in their profile, like you did, that's how I found yours. There are all kinds out there, kind of fun to see what people do with theirs. Yeah, I wonder why you don't have time to create more books?? Hmmm, could it be you have 7 children and homeschool them!!! You are funny. Does homeschooling start the same time regular school starts? You have your hands FULL of lots of love!!
See you around, Joanna
Danielle,
thanks for putting your web address on one of my books. This is fabulous and soooo many wonderful pictures of your 7 children. You go girl. They are darling and you have great photo subjects zooming around. My site is joeyssite.site.shutterfly.com
It's rather blah, but oh well.
Yours is so fun. i'll have to check back often. Thanks again for your kind comments on my book
Joanna :)
