I have just been notified that the 2012 America Cup International Fly Fishing Tournament will be held again in Vail Colorado Septemeber 20th - 23rd 2012, all interested fisherman wishing to be a part of Team WFFJ please notify me as soon as possible as the number of teams will be limited to 16 total and be entered/registered on a first come first serve basis. The 2011 America Cup International Fly Fishing Tournament has just finished this past Sunday September 18. The streams and lochs were filled with 14 teams from around the world and Team WFFJ was represented by some of the finest anglers from our Club. One of our members / competitor in particular, Gil Padovani, made one of the most courageous efforts in sportsmanship, and should be applauded by all of us.
When Gil arrived in Denver Tuesday, he was experiencing trouble breathing, and went to the local hospital the following day. Gil was diagnosed with pulmonary edema and has immediate surgery to correct this condition, and had 3 liters of fluid removed from his lungs. He then, not wanting to disappoint Team WFFJ, fished the following 3 sessions. During session 4, he retreated due to not being fully recovered from this invasive surgery.
It was fortunate for Team WFFJ that Misako Ishimura found an individual who was at the time volunteering as a controller for the tournament to fill in for Gil and the final competitive session. Below are the winning results for this year’s competition,

The 2011 America Cup Team will be competing once again this year in Vail Colorado September 15th – 18th. The team has three returned competitors from last years competition, beginning with artist, author, fly fisher extraordinaire Misako Ishimura, fly tyer and last years America Cup team Captain, Big John Kimura, competitor Jim Slade and we have two new members joining our team, from the state of New Jersey the world traveling fly fisherman Gil (Sfacch) Padovani, & from Long Island NY fly fishing conservationist Peter Van Bursik.
We are all pleased to be part of this event and will report to the membership on how the team placed in this tournament, any and all interested fly fisherman interested in being an alternate or would like to b considered for next yours America Cup Team, please contact Jim Slade at
