This is the initial website for Wildlight Photography. I have added many images to this site since I started it. Photography is a first love for me. It lets me show the world the way I see things. I look for what is good and provocative. I look for what makes people think of things other than their day-to-day grind. It is a stop and smell the roses kind of approach.

What I Believe

I believe that a photographer's images should reflect the personal beliefs of the artist. Hence the image of the Lamb of God is there.

Nature in itself has beauty, purpose and meaning. Light in the reflections that we see conveys much of that. The flowers of early summer give way to the colors of autumn as the seasons change.

Sport is action. There is nothing the look on athletes faces as they power their way to victory.

Digital Black and White

There are two ways for me to create a black and white image digitally aside from using black and white film to scan from. I use Nikon's Capture NX2 as my photo editor software and it has a fairly good conversion feature for changing a color image to black and white. The tone quality can match film to a degree even though nothing matches contrast like a Red 25 filter used with a conventional black and white film like Kodak's T-Max films.

Nikon's digital SLR cameras have a black & white converter programed in them as well. I shot an image of an old farmstead which is great black and white subject matter with my D-80 and converted the image into a sepia tone right on the spot before even downloading it to my PC. The D-80 also has the capability of shooting pure black and white.

The image that you see on this site, however, started out as a Fujichrome slide.
