Grocery Store Tours Available in Kent County

The Kent County Health Department is now offering grocery stores tours to enhance people’s knowledge about making healthy selections.  Participants will learn how to select the best fruits and vegetables, learn and better understand food labels on the products they buy, and receive tips for meal planning and preparation.  During the tour people will also be introduced to the nutritional ranking systems used by stores to help their patrons make better choices.

Tours take about 90 minutes, depending on the number of participants.  Tours can also be arranged for groups of people with specific health conditions, such as low sodium diets, managing diabetes, or food allergies.  For more information or to sign up for a tour, contact Sarah Van Eerden, Registered Dietitian at the Health Department, at 616-632-7286 or sarah.vaneerden@kentcountymi.gov.
