Woodburning
As I produce my little scenes on slices of birch I'll keep posting pictures here. I'm learning that the silhouettes work best. Images with subtle shading tend to lose some of the shading once the piece has been given a coat of shellac, which then darkens it. I did several at the beginning (in December 2010) using stencils, but I'm completely comfortable without stencils now. I'm also struggling (as of January 2011) with wood finishes. All of the pine cone and tassel coasters made for Leigh's wedding last summer had a simple coat of shellac. I am looking for a combination of finishes that will seal the end grain of the wood and which will then accept a coat of satin varnish or acrylic. Still working on it but I have just read about a combination that may be just what I want, (along with sanding with a 400 grit before starting the burning). -=David=-

First Post
It works like this: First you get a Shutterfly account at their web site, www.shutterfly.com. Upload pictures into albums, but these are for your own use. The rest of the world can't see them there. From there, you click on a couple of links and - Presto! - you have a web site like this. If people know or guess the web address (what to put in place of the www) they can visit the site. You bring some of the pictures from some of your albums over to this site, where you want everyone to see them - or you can make it private if you want to. You invite some people to become members, where they can take greater advantage of the pictures you've added. And, personally, I encourage anyone visiting this site to order prints or other products from Shutterfly, because I sure do appreciate what they've made available here!=DAW=
