2014 Black-and-White Single Image Contest

Deadline: June 30

More than 210 winning images will be chosen in 15 different categories and each will have a full-page display in the Black & White Special Issue. A best photograph will be chosen from each category and will be featured in a regular issue of Black & White with a short bio of the photographer and background information on the shot. Also, a panel of lay judges will select their favorite photograph in each category for a special People's Choice award. The 25th annual National Geographic Traveler Photo Contest just got underway, and we’re off to a great start so far. The magazine will be awarding seriously spectacular prizes this year, so don’t miss your chance to win. Enter today!

The prizes: The grand-prize winner will earn two spots on a 10-day trip to the Galápagos with National Geographic Expeditions to experience — and document — some of the most spectacular wildlife on Earth. Other prizes include an intensive 7-day Santa Fe photography workshop, a 6-day cruise for two on a windjammer schooner in Maine, and $200 gift certificates to B&H Photo. North American Nature Photography Association

NANPA is Launching Special Interest Groups One of the great things about being part of NANPA is the chance to network with your photography peers. NANPA is building on this benefit by launching a new networking opportunity for you.   NANPA announces the launch of eight Special Interest Groups (SIGs) within the NANPA membership. These include: Wildlife Landscape Birds Gardens and flowers Underwater Macro Conservation Fine art We are in the formation stage of the process. Once we determine how many people are interested in each SIG, we can start dedicated listservs or discussion forums, social networking, meetings at NANPA events, opportunities to contribute to the event programs, and more. The possibilities are wide and varied. But we can't start until we know if you are interested.   Join as many as you want. Simply fill out the online form and we will take it from there. You may also sign up for a SIG through the NANPA Store on the website. There is no cost. Being part of a SIG will not mpact your dues. The only stipulation is that you must be a NANPA member to participate.   We are excited to move forward on this new networking benefit. Please indicate your interest by November 19 so we can get the ball rolling.   Click here to get started. Clarksburg, CA 95612      Dear Artists and Art Supporters, Lake Winchester Vineyard is a dream come true for owners Tim and Linda Waits.  When they purchased the 340 acre property in 2004 it was an undeveloped piece of ag land - which happened to sit on a peaceful lakefront.  Nine years later it is a thriving property with their lakeside dream home, barn, and English walking garden; Petit Sirah and Pinot Noir grape vineyards which they sell to local wineries and use for their own private label; and  alfalfa and safflower fields. The lake is lined with valley oaks and native grasses and if you are lucky you may see an egret or heron who are frequent visitors.  You are free to take the walking path along the lake or you can set up on their private lawn in front of the house.  Tim and Linda welcome you to experience the peace & quiet of Lake Winchester Vineyard.     Also happening on Saturday, May 18 8:30am - 12pm at Lake Winchester...  Our first MASTER ARTIST WORKSHOP of the season - Landscapes in Watercolor -   with watercolor artist  Michael Mikolon     This beginning watercolor workshop will cover the use of watercolors and basic concepts of landscape painting.  We will use color and composition to create a focal point in our work.  Focusing on how to use value structure to get a sense of depth and atmosphere; reviewing the application of paint - working wet into wet and dry brush work to create texture and build layers.  Working with a limited pallete we will use complementary colors and learn more about color and how to create harmony.  Click Here for Supplies List.    CLICK HERE here to sign up for this free workshop.   Space is limited. Whoo Hoo! It's Fair Time! "Swine On Harvest Moon"!!

The Woodland Camera Forum always holds court at the Yolo County Fair with lots of entries winning lots of ribbons!

Important dates:  Entry forms due in by Friday, June 28 before 4:30 pm.

Exhibits: Photographic art must be framed and wired for hanging; and to be delivered on Wednesday, August 7th, between 1-8 pm.

Pick up after the Fair is Monday. August. 19, between 10 am-7 pm.
