2010 Children's Arts Awards
March 15, 2010, NYC - Young Audiences New York celebrated the 9th annual Children's Arts Awards on at Cipriani-Wall Street. The benefit is held every year to not only raise money for the programs of YANY but to also honor leaders from the fields of business, media and entertainment who support children's arts education.
The 2010 Children's Arts Awards were presented to: Artist Honoree Allen Toussaint, Award-winning musician, songwriter and producer; Media Honoree Tim Spengler, President, Initiative, North America; Humanitarian Honoree Michael Dorf, philanthropist and entrepreneur; and Lifetime Achievement Honoree Hazel N. Dukes, President, NAACP New York State. Benefit co-chairs include Charlie Collier, President, AMC; George C.W. Gatch, President & CEO JP Morgan Funds; David Pakman, Partner, Venrock; Dr. Marcella Maxwell, Vice Chair of NAACP Special Contributions Fund Board of Trustees; and Joshua Feigenbaum, Co-founder & President, NYNO Records.
The evening was highlighted by performances from Young Audiences New York's Music Unites Youth Choir (a free after-school choir for NYC high school students) singing Viva La Vida from Coldplay and the 5th-6th grade students from P.S. 46 Manhattan (multi-grade musical theater residency), singing a medley of songs from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
