Community yard sale comes up with big profit

Thanks go out to Gail Coons and Helen Olson for the great job they did with organizing and conducting the  Y's Men's Club First Annual Community Yard Sale. The sale took place at Dotzler Park on November 12th with the big tent holding tons of donated items for sale.  There were also numerous individual sellers with their own displays of goods for sale.

Many people came to buy.  Lots went home with bags crammed full of clothing items for $2.00 per bag.  Biggest item sold was the donated flute that went for $150 to a couple from North Port who had seen the ad for the sale on Craig's List. Thanks to this sale many of the Y's Men's Members now have some extra room in their closets and garages to start saving up items for next year's sale.

But the real profit for this sale came from the Modern Woodmen of America- Port Charlotte who wound up making a $2500 donation to help us with our charitable endeavors.

Also thank you Larry Mooney for allowing us to store the sale items in your garage and home during the weeks leading up to the sale.

2011 Help Us Help the Kids
Fall Golf Scramble was fun for all

The Help Us Help the Kids Fall Golf Scramble  was held September 24th  at the Port Charlotte Golf Club.  Ninety-six golfers on 24 teams played in this year's tournament.  The team sponsored by Don Gasgarth Charlotte County Ford (Dutch Kasten, Bill Clemmen, Ron Reifschneider and Mike Fowler) is this year's Champions.

This year's tournament format was designed to allow players of all abilities to have a chance to win.  Awards were made to the first, ninth, nineteenth and 24th placed teams. As a result, everyone had lots of fun and we hope all will return for next year's event.

Finishing in Ninth Place was the team consisting of Chad Vogt, Bobby Crouse, Dennis Anderson and Roger Kenner.  Dennis also took home a prize for his great shot on the Par 3 15th hole which wound being the closest to the pin at about 36" away.

In Nineteenth Place was the team consisting of Glenn and Holly Larson, Ted Brown and Ed Olson.  Holly had to carry the men with her long drives and took home the award for Women's Longest Drive.  For the Men's Longest Drive Bob Briarton was the winner.

The final winner with a score of 79 was the team from the YMCA which had CEO Paul Versnik and his son Mike Versnik playing along with Ron Ferguson and Gary Morrison.

Other playing awards went to Sean Crouse for making the Longest Putt on the Par 5 6th Hole.  Steve Padgett won a Closest to the Pin on the Par 3 Hole 13.

Jim Ulrich took home both of the big raffle prizes-  a One-Week Stay at Englewood Beach and Yacht Club plus an NCAA Lettermans Golf Bag-  Jim's choice was his alma mater Indiana State University.

There were many great raffle prizes won by the players.  Thanks to all for buying tickets and supporting our fundraiser.  Special thanks to Donnie Schwartz who bought enough tickets to win many(!) great prizes.  Enjoy.

This tournament was sponsored by the Millennium Physician Group and I would like to thank Brandy Church there for her assistance and support.  Also we had numerous Hole Sponsors and encourage you to support them--
